75% chance Kirk is back next year? "I don't think he's done yet....I think he's got 1 more year & that will be it."

A lot of you act like this program is a dumpster fire and it is not. The last few years have been historically bad on the offensive side of the ball, but things are looking up there this year. The defense is down this year from what it has been and has been just as much to blame for the losses as the offense. But we have solid leadership there with PP and I don't think many question him.

A lot will depend on these last two games as 6-6 looks a lot different than 8-4 and I would admit that 6-6 is not a good sign. But, if this team does what we think they should do, they will be 8-4 and probably a solid 5th in an 18-team league. Considering the resources that other universities have that is probably still over-achieving in what would be a down year for Iowa.

This is not me accepting mediocrity or being a KF apologist either. I would love for Iowa to compete at the top of the B1G and for national championships every year as much as the next person, but, that is seriously not reality. No matter who is coach it is still going to be about the Jimmy's and Joe's and the landscape for that is different now than ever before.

It definitely is not a dumpster fire. But, the argument could be made it’s akin to your buddy’s truck, passenger floor board, and bed, starting to accumulate too many fast food bags and empty drink cups. Not a dumpster fire, but plenty to clean up before you pick up the girl. However, your buds will jump right in the cab and tell you it’s fine.

The only opinion that matters is that of the record books

Our roster is gonna be trash next year. Iowa can't pay kids enough to come here in the portal to fix all the holes we're gonna have.

He definitely isn't leaving on his own before he passes Woody Hayes.

KF will return just to get the all time wins record. That's all he wants at this point, the money is not the issue.

I would argue he's also motivated to finish his career with a 60.00% win percentage.

One of the stipulations for the College Football Hall of Fame is you have to have won 60% of your games.

Kirk has been the head coach in 358 games. He's won 59.78% of those games.

By season's end Kirk will be up to 361 games (2 reg season games + 1 bowl game are left).

To get to 60.00% by the end of the 2024 season, Kirk will have to finish at 3-0 to get to 217-144 (60.11%).

To get to 60.00% by the end of the 2025 season, Kirk will have to finish this season & next season (assuming 13 games) no worse than 11-5 to get to 225-149 (60.16%).

Kirk's current record:

.......12-21 (36.4%):...............3 years at Maine..........(1990-92)
202
-123 (62.2%):.........26th season at Iowa (1999-present)
..................................................................
214-144 (59.78%) Overall Record

We have an asshole basketball coach who has been barely above average, and playing in front of half empty arenas for well over a decade, but a bunch you think we’re firing a well liked football coach playing in front of sold out stadiums, whose floor has been above average over the same time period.

Yeah, that’s not happening.

He won’t be here forever, and it’s highly likely the next coach will be inheriting a very healthy football program. You’re all screaming into the abyss.

Iowa has a good coach. If anything has been proven time and again. Firing a good coach rarely turns out well, unless maybe you’re a blue blood…Iowa is not.

I agree he will come back to get the record.

Next year is probably going to be rough. The defense will be decimated by graduations. The offense loses 4 starters on a line that isn’t that great to begin with. The QB position is still a mess and WR is not much better. The schedule (on paper) is also more difficult.

Anyone who thinks the Hawks will cruise to 8+ wins next season is in for a rude awakening. Sure, it could happen and I hope it does. An honest appraisal of the team at this point leads any reasonable person to conclude there will likely be a drop off in wins.

But again…you never know. Situations change. The over/under for Iowa this season was 7.5 and I bet the over. Figured it was a slam dunk-easy money. That is looking dicey right now.

Someone I know who is very close to the program told me Kirk would like to coach until 75. Hopefully those last 5 years will be as the OL coach.
He has said he wants to ride off into the sunset as an OL coach. I hope they just do a swaperoo and Kirk goes to OL and someone else moves in as HC when he is ready to give that up.

Anyone think he is not motivated because he actually loves his job? Being with the boys and being a teacher.

What I would love to see is give the staff the money to go out and buy who they need for a couple years and see what they can do. We know we are up against much bigger war chests and that won't change with a change in head coach.
