A Deeper Lineup & Covid

I think the Hawks could be better off than most teams if/when covid hits because of their deep bench.

Over half of the team has reportedly had the Covid...hopefully the remaining team that hasn't contacted it yet are players that are not relied on for heavy minutes....

Same with Illinois. Iowa and Illinois are both deep as long as Ayo/Kofi and Garza/JoeW are not the ones to go down. The other guys are good but these guys are not replaceable.

Except that was over the summer so they could get it again soon if the 3-month rule is true.
despite the claim by some that catching the virus makes u immune. It's certainly not true for all., their is 5 documented cases of reinfection, and as you note a decline in antibodies is being is being observed

So 5 reinfection cases in USA out of 11 million USA infected? Reinfection doesn't seem like a big concern at this time.

Despite the B1G bureaucrats worries that caused those idiots to cancel Football initially, I haven't heard of any serious complications leading to athlete's deaths/disability. This is an extremely healthy poplulation. They are going to be exposed to the disease in social settings regardless of B-ball. They can get tested much more often if they are playing B-ball. So I am optimistic for season to go on with not a lot of downtime for Covid.

Kirk Ferentz if anything seems to near the top of B1G in Covid prevention. With 7 Iowa B-ball players already recovered, seems like Iowa B-ball should do well vs Covid. Garza is irreplaceable though.

Lets win a B1G title, or at least score a lot of of point and give up a lot of points and finish tied for 2nd. I would take the vaccine when it comes out and love to watch the B1G tournament, but vaccines probably are still not widely available by March.

I don't think depth would particularly help a hoops team deal with covid. It isn't like football where they are sort of compartmentalized during practice where the QBs aren't really around the DBs or whatever as they do their own meetings and have their own drills. Basketball players are all going to be around each other all the time. If it goes around a team, they are all going to get it.

Will depth matter if a player gets it and he has to sit out 21 days but contact tracing also puts a half dozen other players out for 14 days?

There are no covid rules that hold true,... if you want to be able to count on something, use your toes.

If it's true that nine of our players have already had the virus, I hope that our starters, especially Luka, have had it and have relative immunity. It would pretty much devastate our season if he caught it in during the conference schedule and had to quarantine for the better part of a month.

Luka's the only guy I truly consider irreplaceable, with Jordan coming back, Ulis and Perkins coming in. My main concern is what happens if/when we go against other physical teams and something happens to Garza. Last year we knew Kriener/Pemsl could at least hold their own if Garza had to sit down for a spell. Hopefully Nunge/Ogundele and the Murray twins can pick up the slack.

Main concern I have, and which Fran hasn't handled well previously, is settling down to a consistent rotation. I would prefer a 9-10 man rotation myself.

I am pretty sure that with these daily rapid tests, they detect if a player is positive before he is contagious. Those who test positive are removed from the team & given the more reliable test to confirm the positive result.

So, if a player is indeed positive, he is removed from the team for 21 days.

Players who continue to test negative are good to go.

What is the B1G rule, if a player tests positive? How long do they have to sit out, and does the team also have to wait for some time, before they can play again? Are those games forfeited or rescheduled? Thanks.
