I welcome the rebirth of republican liberalism. It's been absent most of my life, but the history books make it clear it used to be a potent force.

Republican liberalism?........you are a Dem liberal getting nervous..... the Republican party is not changing......Lincoln was a Republican.....MLK was a conservative.......Democrats highjacked the civil right movement and the black voters......but look at the libs mess in Chicago, LA, Detroit, Newark, Omaha, NY City.......it's time to liberate/free blacks from Democrats again!

I'm a liberal. I only advocat partisanship to the extent that it serves that interest. If Rs are going to jettison conservative principles to act as Libs that's a pure win for me. Lincoln was a liberal. Would you vote for him today? I'd very much like to vote for the party of Lincoln if that ever has a reemergence.

Of course, that's how you get progress. Loyalty to the agenda, not the teams. Today is a great day to be a liberal. I'm just glad you wanted to share in the glory. There's hope for you yet.

So this means you do not know what you are talking about. Carry on, naive republican hack. Go back to your handlers at Fox News to get your instructions for the day.

Great day for liberalism? Dreaming. Twisting this scenario....is all you're doing. Typical lib. You forced the Republicans to retire the flag. hahahahaha

post started by a person who does NOT comprehend the history or this nation....or South Carolina.

icu...you do understand WHY South Carolina started flying the old Confeddy flag over their statehouse back in 1961 in the first place, right?
It was in reaction to the Federal government taking actions to integrate the schools in this nation.....primarily in "the South".
You also understand why most Southern politicians of any standing back in those days were Democrats? It all stems back to the fact that ALincoln was a Republican and post civil war party affiliation was a reaction to him. This didn't change until LBJ signed the Civil and Voting Rights laws in the mid-1960's...(That is when ol' Landslide made his famous comment to Hubert Humphrey......"Well Hubert, I just gave The South back to the Republicans for the next 100 years." )
This South Carolina flag thingy has very little to do with politics and a whole lot to do with racism. You want to make the issue political. It ain't.

It's really funny the way Democrats pretend their racist history is something in the ancient past. As if Fritz Hollings, Robert Byrd and all the rest came over on the Mayflower.

This church shooting and the problems of Ferguson etc are sticking to the gop like glue. They are in a panic.
"Hands up, don't shoot" never happened.

You realize that, right?

It was yet another manufactured outrage by idiots on the left

Thumbs up for an honest history lesson! Although I've been hoping someone would explain what a "DixieCrat" was. Party politics outlasted any real party affiliation for a number of years.

A CONSERVATIVE raised the Confederate flag over S Carolina...since we're labeling and all. Kudos to the conservative pushing to take it down.

The Dixiecrats are the Southern Dems who walked out of the 1948 Democratic Convention because they opposed President Harry Truman's civil rights proposals. I believe a guy names Strom Thurman was a leader of this group. Strom certainly made his bones as a Republican Con as opposed to being a Democrat. Typical of Southern pols of the time...Strom was a Dem so he could get elected to public office. Be he a Dem or a Repubber, Strom was a pretty strong pol who supported Jim Crowe and its way of life. He had a child with his hired (black) help, I believe. Strom became a man of Power in the US Senate.....not because of his politics but because of his longevity. He was an old poop.
Current translation of political philosophy, the old time Dems (Long, Thurman (til 1964), Fulbright, Eastland, Stennis, Richard Russell, Sparkman all moved to the right on social issues and many of these guys became Republicand after Civil Rights and Voting Rights legislation became the law of the land. Many northern senators...Javitz, Hickenlooper, Dirksen were more socially liberal and supported this legislation and remained GOPers for life.

There are some things only a Republican can make happen......It is like Dick Nixon "opening up" relations with Red China. Can you imagine what king of shit would have hit the fan if Kennedy or Johnson would have done this? Only Nixon....the hater of all things communist, could have done this and gotten by with it.

I think you're reading the situation wrong. Libs didn't force this on Rs. Rs came around to the lib point of view on this topic. You moved! People complain all the time about the teams being entrenched and progress being impossible. But I see change like this all the time and find it hopeful. Rs are shifting towards the lib POV on civil rights and the environment too. Now if you Rs really wanted to be bold you would adopt the liberal position on labor rights and cut the legs right out of the D base. Then you would be well on your way to reclaiming the mantle of Lincoln.

Those are pretty old references, just to let you know. While your party today is actively trying to suppress the black vote. Thats just a little perspective. Politics is about the policies you are advancing in the moment.

I'll just leave this right here since Hillary is outraged by the SC flag.

You point tex? Clinton/Gore were using the "current" state flag of SCarolina in their campaign. Republicans and cons don't do this? Gimme a friggin' break.
It has nothing to do with the racism behind the state of SC from adopting this flag in the first place, back in 1961. If it does...please RATIONALLY explain it to me.

Too bad Nikki Haley isn't running for president. Had she done this act previously, I do believe she would have been given serious consideration. She is definitely brighter than the rest of the field.

Well joelb,

They didn't mind signing the State Act that reaffirmed the state’s language that honored the stars on the Arkansas flag as commemorating the Confederate flag. I'm sure it was no big deal to the Clintons to use the Confederate flag button when trying to secure votes in South Carolina. It is the Clinton's after all!

"In 1987, then-Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton signed Act 116. It had little consequences other than to reaffirm the state’s language that honored the stars on the Arkansas flag as commemorating the Confederate flag. The act specifically says, “The blue star above the word ‘ARKANSAS’ is to commemorate the Confederate States of America.”

That is fine. It is part of Arkansas history. It ain't the old Confeddy flag used by the Confederate States of America when they went to war with The United States back in 1860. But why argue with a Texan.........Pardon me, while go and piss into the wind.

Yet liberals ignored it until they could use it for political gain.
It's sort of impressive how ignorant you are on this topic considering how much press it gets. Research how many times liberals have introduced bills to address this over the years.
