a Democrat raised the Confederate flag over S Carolina. A Republican takes it down. Seems about righ

nope and neither were you but the hands up don't shoot b******* was disproved. Of course that destroys all of your arguments over Ferguson but since it's your side you don't care about the truth

Listen, if we didn't have guns this wouldn't be an issue. I don't support Brown, but this sure as hell didn't have to be like this.

It's sort of impressive how ignorant you are on this topic considering how much press it gets. Research how many times liberals have introduced bills to address this over the years.

I have to be out of the office for the next couple of days...but I would really love to see your list of "bills" and your explanation of just how any one of these would have prevented this shooting. Good luck.

Hmm, how would coff respond to a post like this? Would he call the poster dishonest for creating a straw man? Maybe lazy for not being willing to use google? Probably a fool for not knowing the facts. Happy journey, I'm sure you will be missed.

That is fine. It is part of Arkansas history. It ain't the old Confeddy flag used by the Confederate States of America when they went to war with The United States back in 1860. But why argue with a Texan.........Pardon me, while go and piss into the wind.

Arkansas history is pretty much the same as South Carolina history when they happen at the same point in time.

I'll bet you squat to pee anyway joel so wind should not be a factor.

I love this thread. Political disciples arguing over which sold-out political club did something first. As if they actually did something of substance. They never have and never will. Politicians are panderers and their followers are fervent supporters of pandering. If you cannot see the fatal flaw in that fact, my sympathies.

Abolitionists ended slavery. Republican and Democratic politicians were profiting from it, and were happy to continue to, until abolitionists and the general public would no longer elect them. Politicians are wavering, pandering, vacillating individuals who act out of fear of losing their meal ticket and not being popular. That is one of the most vapid, hollow and dangerous professions ever shat into humanity.

I want to agree with that 100% because I dislike both political "sides". But the part about Republicans and abolitionists if a tough one for me as the Republican party was so new.

Apparently jscott was. Why don't you ask him? Oh wait, he's on your team.

I just know Lincoln's quotes which in no way whatsoever had any intention of ending slavery or even recognizing African-descent people as equal to the white man. The evidence is endless. Of course, Lincoln was a lawyer and a politician, so who knows what he really thought? He probably didn't know himself. He was too preoccupied with gaining favor to have any real knowledge. Lincoln was a master politician. To me, that means a person who has made it their life's ambition to deceive and vacillate. I'm sure he was a cool guy if you knew him socially, but his occupation stunk.

He seemed like a pretty cool guy in this movie.

Ah, the "If I could preserve the Union and end slavery I would. If I could preserve the Union and not end slavery, I would.", thing. But then the South had begun to secede before he ever took office. In effect they put the issue of secession on the burner and with it the existence of slavery as an institution.

I think, if one looks at that Republican nomination for President in particular, you will find a great deal of involvement by abolitionists.

And as to Lincoln knowing what he was doing, or what he thought? Just about every historian I've ever read has remarked on how carefully calculating Lincoln was. Now, you and Seward might have been fooled, but even Seward came to realize how much he had underestimated Lincoln's intellect.

Lincoln was highly intelligent. Abso-freaking-lutely. I just don't trust politicians. Lincoln was a master politician. I trust the masters even less.

Pissin' in the wind, bettin' on a losing friend
Makin' the same mistakes, we swore we'd never make again
And we're pissin' in the wind, but it's blowing on all our friends
We're gonna sit and grin and tell our grandchildren

I must have missed OP's numerous posts in support of the repeated requests by democrats to remove the flag. I must have missed his praise in support of the democrat candidate, Vincent Sheehen (he ran against Gov. Haley), who repeatedly called for the flag to come down.

And I must have missed his criticism of Gov. Haley in 2014 when she said the flag didn't need to be removed, and wasn't an issue because she never heard CEOs complain about it, and South Carolina had fixed the issue of racism with her election.

Of course.

The Dixiecrats are the Southern Dems who walked out of the 1948 Democratic Convention because they opposed President Harry Truman's civil rights proposals. I believe a guy names Strom Thurman was a leader of this group. Strom certainly made his bones as a Republican Con as opposed to being a Democrat. Typical of Southern pols of the time...Strom was a Dem so he could get elected to public office. Be he a Dem or a Repubber, Strom was a pretty strong pol who supported Jim Crowe and its way of life. He had a child with his hired (black) help, I believe. Strom became a man of Power in the US Senate.....not because of his politics but because of his longevity. He was an old poop.
Current translation of political philosophy, the old time Dems (Long, Thurman (til 1964), Fulbright, Eastland, Stennis, Richard Russell, Sparkman all moved to the right on social issues and many of these guys became Republicand after Civil Rights and Voting Rights legislation became the law of the land. Many northern senators...Javitz, Hickenlooper, Dirksen were more socially liberal and supported this legislation and remained GOPers for life.
I don't think Fulbright, Eastland, Stennis, Russell or Sparkman became Republicans. You are right about Thurmond. One can debate whether he or Bobby Byrd was the biggest racist in the Senate during that period...but one cannot debate which of the two was subsequently elevated by his party to its top position.

You mean like President pro tempore? Thats a pretty shallow peg you got your hat on.

I don't know jScott or who here is on "my team", but I sure as hell will call him or the other guy out for BS. I don't care what "team" you're on, I don't like you if you're dishonest.

Nikki Haley has had several years to push for the flag to be brought down. Why are we cheering her now for doing something she could have done with a little more intestinal fortitude years ago?

Because that's where the bar is.

OP and the usual suspects are cheering her now because all truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Some in the GOP are finally getting to the third stage.

I think that's the problem these days. People treat politics like they're rooting for their team or against the other team. Even if their team does something wrong, it's still their team, and come hell or high water, they're cheering for their team.

Problem is, both teams are beholden to big money, and will do what big money tells them to do, One team comes right out and says it. The other pays lip service to the working class, but then sides with big money.

Time for a few new teams.

Oh, and for jscott? His posts are filled with B.S. You've had plenty of chances to call him out.

What position is higher than Senate Majority Leader (other than president)?
I just told you. In the senate it goes VP, then President pro tempore. Your allies are guilty of bad judgment of similar proportions. Hence why thats a very shallow peg you got for your hat.

I accept your surrender. As I thought, you have nothing but a false liberal narrative that you cannot back up with any substance. Thanks for playing.

I guess we should not hold our breath waiting for you to come up with any "bills" that would have prevented the Charleston shooting, as you claimed. And, admit it...you did miss me...just a little?

You're sticking to straw man huh? That was never the case I was making. That wasn't even the topic of this thread. You're slipping.

You haven't backed up your claim whatsoever. You got called out on your assertion that a bunch of bills would have prevented that...Now you duck and dodge and won't answer Coff's question to you.

Oh yes, and his personal hygiene is above reproach.

Heard a good joke the other day.

The only place you'll be able to buy an Confederate Flag is on the Black Market.

I predict, with confidence, that some folks will make a ton of money over the next couple of years selling confederate flags.
