A few thoughts from last night:

- IU is much better than their record would suggest. They can really defend and it gave our backcourt some issues that we'll have to work on. Like about 9 other B1G teams, they have the ability to beat just about anyone any given night
- I suspect Fran has a couple regrets as it relates to the rotation in the second half last night, hopefully we'll live and learn and it will pay dividends down the road
- Allow the game to serve as motivation going forward, there is no need to jump off the ledge. Iowa is still a top 10 team in 2nd place, one game out of the B1G lead and an opportunity to even it up when we face Michigan
- I don't recall watching a game where Nick Bahe was assigned for color commentary but I thought he was fantastic throughout. He is going to ascend quickly in this profession
- there is no need to be hyper critical of players. Guys have off nights, there is a long ways to go, all of the teams goals are still within reach (B1G regular season champs, BTT champs, deep run in the big dance)
- I think its fair to say some matchups will continue to give us problems getting into our offense and I think the coaches need to make better adjustments, especially when our shots aren't falling from 3.
- bottle up the first half and learn from the second against IU

I haven't read through any posts today after last nights game so I apologize if these items have already been covered, but I suspect the majority of posts fall on the negative side without context or optimism that still remains as it did before the Iowa vs. IU game tipped off

Yeah, I get the frustration, but ultimately I work back to Indiana is likely going to be in the tournament I think - they're better than their record; and we played in the 2nd half about as poorly as we have in several years.

Frederick leaving due to injury in the 2nd half definitely hurt, it took our best shooter out of the lineup, if only as a decoy, and Indiana pounced on that defensively. If he's out next week, I wonder if we see Ulis/Perkins more to try and get more shooters out there. Murray showed flashes again, but struggled with foul trouble and didn't look ready for that level of physical play.

Also, just an oddly officiated game - I won't say poorly. We were in the bonus early in the 2nd half, and it honestly felt like we could have been there even earlier.

Good OP, especially not getting down on individual players, who mostly have played really well before last night.

I hope CJ isn't out for very long. Has there been anything disclosed about the injury? Something very similar happened last year, and he seemed to come back strong faster than expected.

The B1G is very deep and tough. Injuries and the virus are going to have an impact, along with the luck of when you play teams. Illannoy game is huge, and obviously will be big challenge. Both teams will be desperate for a win...

I think 1 thing is obvious, we’ve got a bullseye on our backs with the ranking next to our name. Idk if the team has realized that yet or not. They’re going to get the best effort from the other team every night and in a league like the BIG that will result in some losses. They need to use this game like they did that Christmas day loss to
MN, as motivation. I expect some very good ball the next few games. Sometimes teams learn more from a loss than a win

Gotta love the awww shucks it’s an ok loss threads. We got lots of them.

**** that. You want to be among the best be the best. Jfc you don’t lose to a team like this at home with these expectations. Go ahead make excuses though.
apparently you haven't been paying attention to how tough this league is this year.
March Madness won't be able to hold the B1G's jockstrap in toughness factor. Believe it or not, this conference is likely to be tougher than anything we see in the tourney. I hate losing just like everyone, but as far as the ultimate goal, it's still very much in play. Some losses are gonna happen. Flush this one, get healthy and get back on track.
Bottom line for everyone so worried right now...Step back from the ledge.

Your inspirational post has inspired me to be a better fan: Come on, Hawkeyes, stop sucking like a bunch of losers!

There, that tough love should guarantee the team wins the rest of their games.

You’re an idiot. How does that sound?

Having 100 days off between Big 10 games helps players regain health but certainly doesn't help keep the team game sharp.

8 days is not a 100 days. Fran should have a few days to come up with a new rotation until CJ can return. The guards usually on the bench are going to get a chance to show what they can do.

You are correct, Indiana has ability. They haven't played as cohesively as they did against Iowa. IU has also had some bad luck in a few close games. Combine that with the previous game IU lost to Purdue by double digits. Players are human. It's natural for the Iowa players to watch film of Indiana getting beat decidedly by Purdue, a team they beat by 15, and think "there's no way we lose to this team at home."

The Frederick injury meant a lot more to the team that we think, even though he wasn't scoring. He demands attention from the defense and spreads the floor. Nunge and Murray don't demand that same attention.

I have watched a few games where Indiana didn't seem to be all that committed to providing the effort needed to win the game. They did against Iowa. If Miller could have gotten this type of effort in every game, their record would surely be much better. They are surely not lacking in talent.

Didn't expect Iowa to go undefeated this year. Maybe undefeated at home? This team has played together long enough now to over come physical defenses (coaching) to overcome a player having a bad shooting night (depth)
and different player rotations to find the right combination. (again coaching) Next year the first thing Coach Fran is going to say is this, "Most athletic team I have ever had here." And maybe he is right. We know what Joe T. limitations are as well as his strengths. We don't know that yet about Ahron Ulis. That kid played one Big Ten game with lengthy minutes and did quite well. I don't need him to shoot threes but I believe he is quick enough to play smart fast defense, a quick first step to drive to the basket, and if not driving to the hoop then drive and kick the ball back out. I think Fran is under utilizing him. Anyone remember how long Aaron White sat on the bench until he finally was given a chance and immediately produced?

White score 19 points in the opening game of his freshman year against Chicago St. He pretty much was playing 18-20 minutes right from the start.

don't throw facts at someones false narrative and rant :) FWIW per sports reference, white started 14 games as a freshman and averaged 23.8 min per game. My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think its fair to say Aaron was one of the first players off the bench before he was inserted into the starting lineup.
