ACC BIG Challenge Thread

Thanks so much, guys like Brad Davison.

For forever ruining the charge/block foul call scenarios. Many more times than not, the foul whistled is very likely the wrong one.

And color me dumb; but if the guy with the ball 'knocks down the defender' while backing him down, or coming through the lane, and the ref doesn't whistle a charge (or block), then doesn't that automatically make it a flop? Why is the guy laying on the floor if its not a charge (or a block)??

Zed Key just got away with an obvious push in the Duke guy's back right before his And1. lol

I agree completely to many back down offensive fouls and still nobody blocks out for the rebound for the last 20 years

Because college refferees do whatever they want to.

I honestly don't really care who wins or loses this Challenge. Iowa won their matchup and that's all that truly matters.

Other than preseason bragging rights, it does extremely little to determine both which conference is truly better or which teams are any good (or great) or not.

Really surprised wiscy lost
I'm hesitant to say this since they always seem to surprise me and exceed expectations, but Wisconsin is not good. IMO I think there's a clear bottom 3 of Nebraska, Minnesota and Northwestern, but if I had to pick a bottom 4 I think I'd say Wiscy. The only thing they have going for them is their style of play naturally creates close games. If they end up high in "luck" on KenPom again (win a lot of 1 possession games) than they may still end up in the middle of the conference. But talent wise, they suck

I would take a "fluke" sweet sixteen. How can we get one of those?
Lol, I appreciate the sentiment … Illinois hasn’t made one since 2005. However, legendary coaches like Coach K and Izzo have flamed out early many times, as well. At the end of the day, the best way to make a Tournament run is to try to get as many top 4 seeds as possible as many times as you can. Keep doing that and teams eventually break through.

Announcers slobbering all over TJD's knob after he picked up a loose ball for an unbothered wide open dunk because the UNC guy did a s* job of securing the rebound.

He's good, but any big in the nation could have did what he did in that same situation.

IMO, (as of right now) there is a clear Top 3 in the B1G. Purdue, IU and Illinois.

Yes, Maryland is 7-0 but I just can't see them sustaining that pace, especially once B1G season truly begins in January. They're toughest games so far have been Miami(FL) and St Louis.

I see it as a big dogpile in the race for the 4th and final spot of double-bye in the BTT. Games between teams 4 through 11 - IE, anyone not named PU, IU, ILL, NW, NEB or MIN - it will be anyone's game on any given night at any given place.

Indiana is pretty good, but UNC getting exposed.

Like when they played ISU, throw some D at 'em and they fold.

Jeez, 5 games in the challenge with double digit favorites. 4 of those games the B1G was favored by 10+. All 4 of those teams won by 10+, but they lost the other 7 so far. Could very well go 0-9 in "toss up" games.

Duke is 272nd in adj. tempo so far. A part of me wonders whether playing an up tempo team will unlock some of their guys. Whitehead is just getting back from injury and was the top prospect coming into the year. Didn't really factor much today.

Iowa and Rebraca played into Lampkin's strengths against TCU, and there was a likely winner in that battle. The matchup against Lively can go either way from what I can tell.

Random question;

When did tapping/hitting the ball into the back court on loose ball rebound situations, and same team retrieving it, stop becoming an over-&-back?

Have seen that happen a lot already in this first half-month of the season.

I'm guessing that possession is "lost" with the shot, so free ball with no possession established on the tip out.

I've never really liked him, but Izzo needs to retire before he tarnishes his record (with more losses & mid-pack B1G finishes) too much more.

IE, he's sliding downhill from where he used to be as a high-level coach, and where he had his program both in the B1G and nationally.

I said what I said.

Duke is going to be a very tough match up for the Hawks. They have a bunch of athletic bigs, and then they bring in Young (NW transfer), who plays a combination of basketball and sumo wrestling, and whines whenever he doesn't get a call... Hate watching him play! Filipowski (sp?) is already an incredibly talented big man as a true freshman, and some think he is their second best freshman big.

I liked Izzo his first few years. Now I dislike the complaining little troll more than any other B1G coach.

Agreed, his teams keep starting out overated but they haven't really had a good team since Cassius Winston.

Well those people are obviously wrong. The other guy isn't even better than Young who wasn't even a starter at NW.

Very winnable game for Iowa.
