ACC BIG Challenge Thread

I'm a B1G homer too. B1G got whipped in the final year. A couple of B1G teams underperformed, especially MSU and Wisky, and I hope they keep it up for the next few months.

We lost by two games. Hardly whooped.

Kenpom could still have us rated higher because metrics dont care if a game was part of the challenge or not.

MSU didnt underperform. They have a short bench and are missing their best player and top bench guy.

Is it really fair to include just the games in this little 3-day window?

Individual & preseason tourney games already mentioned above, as we all know Iowa beat Clemson and will play Duke in just under 6 days from now.

Hawks have already won the Iowa/ACC Challenge, beating Duke will just be the cherry on top. ;)

If Iowa beats Duke I say the Big Ten/ACC was a split since Iowa would go 3-0 vs their teams. I don't have a lot of hope for that unless we start getting our offense back. Shooting has been frigid.

I honestly don't really care who wins or loses this Challenge. Iowa won their matchup and that's all that truly matters.

Other than preseason bragging rights, it does extremely little to determine both which conference is truly better or which teams are any good (or great) or not.
Yep....me too. Iowa wins and move on. That's all I care about. It's basketball and the ball bounces funny on any given game day or night and home court advantages matter even though some teams are losing at home and that may highlight some bigger issues but it's still way too early in the season. The conference as usual will be tough again...just too many great BB players but we have to play them. I don't care about the ACC other than the GT game we won and our next game with Duke, and we have to win enough in conference to get into the tourny....

Duke is next and they beat up on OSU but the game was in Cameron....glad we play them on a neutral court....that matters too.

Will be just as tough for us. You can't teach height. Them having 3 players that are 6'10+ should help them.

This year had some really bad matchups that went in favor of the ACC. Most of the best Big Ten teams played against the not best teams in the ACC. Illinois - Syracuse was an absolute garbage matchup. Purdue - FSU was too even though that was the closest score in a Big Ten win. The two best ACC teams played against, at best and likely worse, the 4th or 5th best Big Ten teams and came away with 2 point and 9 point victories in those.

If you look at overall point differential among all 14 games, the Big Ten came out ahead by 28 points. All 6 Big Ten wins were by 10 points or more. 6 of the ACC wins were by 10 points or less. Add to that that several of the ACC winners this week already have losses to more evenly matched Big Ten teams, I'm not too worried about the conference as a whole. At least until March when the Big Ten will inevitably lay their egg in tournament play.

What really matters is the end of the season play, and the B1G needs to stop underperforming in the dance.

I'm glad we are getting Duke fairly early, although a month ago would have been even better. They have scary talent, but still haven't quite figured out how to maximize it as a team. At least this should be more of a full court game, which is what the Hawks do best. Kris and Rebraca need to stay out of foul trouble, and we need to hit the boards hard, like we did against a much smaller GT team. To win, I think Iowa needs to make our 3s and FTs. Should be fun to watch. Hawks win, and we should be crowned the ACC champ.;)

I think Duke is not the same team in a nuetral setting as when they are playing in their crackerbox Gym with the insane student body heckling the opponent the entire game, and getting all the calls. They have scary good talent though.

Agree with others that Duke talent is there in full view....different year, different 5&4 star talent. Gotta lace it up and play the game and really looking forward to it too.

I agree with hoop, especially this younger team is not the same team in a neutral setting. I think the team's heads will be on straighter than against TCU with more energy and attitude and a week's rest I hope helps.....it should. Perhaps Tony can get healed up and any other health items.

TCU had a team of experienced men, who played with a physicality and cohesiveness that you won't see from a young team like Duke early in the season. Duke has even more talent, but their kids and coaches are still figuring out how they play best, and they haven't had a few years of weight training to fill out. It would be nice to get some familiar zebras, like DJ Carstensen's crew, for the game in the garden, and not some east coast homers.

Duke's more talented but I don't think Duke will be better than TCU at any point this year.
