A person doing this, for the take off jet wash, was blasted onto the adjacent rocks and died. This is on orient beach in St. Maarten. Since then, the authorities have clamped down on this nonsense.

Don't mess around with the jet wash!A person doing this, for the take off jet wash, was blasted onto the adjacent rocks and died. This is on orient beach in St. Maarten. Since then, the authorities have clamped down on this nonsense.
This puppy was a challenge. Pilots actually used navigational aids set up in parks etc to align to the runway. My relative used to land 707's at that airport. He said that on a good day it was tough. When it was raining or windy during typhoon season, it was even odds the plane would crash. Nuts approach.
I had a cousin that use to fly for American Airlines. He said they revved it up extra on occasion to give these people a thrill.A person doing this, for the take off jet wash, was blasted onto the adjacent rocks and died. I drank a few beers with a commercial pilot this summer. He said that autopilot can do everything but take off. He thought that would be fixed in a couple more years. On these commercial airliners and overall lack of pilot error crashes these days, I almost feel like the autopilot is doing most of the work. We got the computers for it for decades now-far easier than developing for cars due to lack of overall other things to worry about around you. Especially if all planes are similarly using autopilot.
Sounds about right! Funny thing is 30 years ago, computers flying all passenger planes around would terrify most everyone, myself included. Now, I would actually feel way more safe.I drank a few beers with a commercial pilot this summer. He said that autopilot can do everything but take off. I used to fly into and out of Midway a lot, and that was weird. Just right on top of those houses.
That killed a kid in a car.Close to the cars on the street too.
You know the pilots actually got in some heat over sterile cockpit rules for their discussion leading up to the decision to attempt the landing. One was heard on the cockpit voice recorder saying 'I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue,' one of the Lloyd bridges lines from Airplane!. Obviously the decision itself to land in bad weather leading to the runway over run was the wrong call, which is a different discussion, but the joke didn't go over well when heard during the investigation....Close to the cars on the street too.
For cars we need Express lanes with built in guidance tech that only allow equipped vehicles to utilize, but they let you go 120mph, cutting your travel time.On these commercial airliners and overall lack of pilot error crashes these days, I almost feel like the autopilot is doing most of the work. minus the video, but a cool story I was a sent a long time ago:Sometimes you are better off just not knowing what’s going on up front.
