Akrum Wadley

White said it was a strength thing and I think it is not just the fumbles keeping him off the field but the fact that I think he is not doing the job in the weight room they want him to do. I feel bad for the kid because he seems like a good kid and he has tons of talent. Glad to see Daniels greet him right away when he came off the field to try and pick him up. He needs to put on about 10 more pounds of muscle at least. He does things you can't teach at RB so I really hope he gets things figured out.

5 points of contact, fingertips, palm, forearm, crook of the elbow and chest. That was the Tiki Barber formula to solve his fumble problem.

Wadley did lose two fumbles last year but they don't go down in the books if he recovers his own fumble. This did happen at least one time as well last year which may be the reason some remember more fumbles.

I think he was 170 last year. Now he is 180. Next year if he is 190 he might not have the same problem.

It is more of a technique issue than weight. Strength and weight will be minimal help if he runs with the ball in one arm out away from his body.

In his defense the fumble yesterday was caused by a defender punching the ball out from behind. I'm thinking if Doyle would work with strengthening Wadley's hands and forearms this might help. I'm probably wrong but it couldn't hurt.

I just don't know why our staff never thinks of things like this. WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!!

I feel bad for Wadley. I almost don't want him to get drafted now so that he can pick his destination.

Yep. Bad feeling he ain't gonna be drafted. Just a hunch, but teams are probably thinking "if he couldn't gain weight and strength at Iowa...".

Most RB'sin the NFL that are his height are 20 pounds heavier, if not more. And just as fast if not faster.

At this point, the destinations he might be choosing from are Billion Auto, Northwestern Mutual, and Menards.....even if he DOES get drafted.

I always liked Wadley. Seemed like a good kid with just the right amount of edge. I hope he makes the league.

He’ll forever be respected by me after that Pinstripe Bowl performance on a terrible field that shouldn’t have been played on. He not only didn’t sit out cuz of risk of injury but he almost single handedly won that game for us.

You're 5 foot nothin, 100 and nothin. You hung in there with the best college football players in the land. In this life, you don't have to prove nothin to nobody but yourself.

He'll get a camp invite, so he'll get his chance.

Still though, gotta wonder what really was the issue. To me, it's that he never put on weight and strength needed at Iowa of all places - as well as he's not really "40 fast".

There were very real reasons why this happened, things he will have to prove to whomever signs him that they were wrong on.

Well there were plenty of reaches in this draft. More upside with Wadley. Hell, Iowa has had walk-ons who proved they were scholarship-worthy. Sometimes the experts fhawk up.

He'll get invited to some camps. If he can show that he can catch out of the backfield or even from the slot...he'll find a home. He's amazingly talented, just a "tweener" to use basketball terms.

If he was 210 he'd be on a roster.

I guess NFL GMs don’t like guys breaking the tape at the goal line.
Yeah, he’ll catch on somewhere. Works too hard and has too much talent not to.

Just not big enough.

He'll obviously get a free agent shot with some team. It's hard to see him sticking in the league. An outside shot. Maybe he makes a practice squad.

Its funny that 10-15 lbs makes that much of a difference.
its 1.5 to 2 tenths of a second on his Forty that hurt the most. If you going to be little in the NFL, you gotta be explosively fast.

Interesting thing to me was how, the NFL got it all backward. Most valuable to the team, top to bottom, Akrum, Josey, Josh and James.

Wadley, joke not drafted. Class act.
These nfl morons are nothing more than high school coaches with connections.
Case and point , Tim Tebow, really he’s not even a backup? Oh, I forgot, he’s an outspoken Christian. Doesn’t sit well with the satanic liberal nuts taking over the country.

There is often a significant difference in what makes a player valuable to wins for their college team versus what will translate to those wins for an NFL franchise. NFL is all about the bottom line dollar. And they are drafting toward that end. They don't care if a guy was the mvp of his college team if he doesn't have what's going to translate for their needs.

Actually it is probably a good thing he wasn't drafted. Now he can look at what might be the best fit for his talent. He is a long shot at best, but coming from Iowa is a good thing -- pro style offense and team first philosophy. Even if he never plays a down in the league, he will have his degree and be well on his way to a successful life.

I'd blame Urban Meyer and not Jesus for Tebow not being in the NFL. He rode this big strong kid who could run to a natty. What he didn't do was teach him footwork, throwing motion or delivery.

He was never caught from behind. Rewatch the games. He was explosively fast.
