I'd link the article but it was so long I got bored. You will too.

No need to read, this should cover it ...

His mega ego always leads him into trouble. Should have stayed at New Mexico where the expectations were reasonable and he could find success but just had to jump to a blue blood.

The problem is what can any coach possibly do at that school that has not already been done many times? You are only as good as your last season there. Dumb move.

Steve had his job saved a couple years ago by getting a late invitation to the NCAA.

It is just a matter of time.

Sorry. No blood in the water this year. He's got the best team he ever coached. Huge upgrade over last year's mediocre bunch.

Do you guys realize how stupid, pathetic and petty that you look? You are all acting like a bunch of liberal Democrats.
It was time to stop making yourselves look ridiculous the day that he left Iowa, but you butthurt fools are still crying. It was ''fans'' like you that had Barta believing that he needed to show you that he was the boss. Barta's public admonishment of the basketball program caused Alford to give Barta and Iowa the finger and rightly so. It is never good policy to air any employment grievances in public. That was 9 years ago, you got what you wanted, and the next three years of Iowa basketball were all on you. Unfortunately it hurts that Alford has been more successful since he left Iowa than Iowa has been. Like I said, that is on you. Isn't it time to stop embarrassing Iowa?

Sorry Steve. There, I've said it.

Yeah, we are all acting like a bunch of liberal Democrats. We disliked a guy who respected women so much that he protected a rapist. I mean, what's wrong with us for not respecting a guy who had Luke Recker and worked him like a plow horse through a knee injury instead of letting him get some health care (as in heal up). And of course he disrespected persons with special needs (That's a fact that didn't make the news, but true.) Told a woman to take a hike when all she asked was he sign a Hawkeye flag for a sick kid, a flag other coaches had already signed. (That did make the news.) Just to show what a small community Iowa City is, she used to baby sit for Dan Gable! But you know, Steve couldn't be bothered with all that but he could demand free services because of who he was.

I could go on and on but I'll finish with this. I was a lifelong, deep end, Hawkeye fan who became so sick of our coach that I couldn't watch the games. I QUIT watching for two or three years because of Alford. I came right back when he was finally gone and you can wave Lickliter at us but I can handle a little, or a lot, of losing as long as the coach isn't a piece of crud that actually deserved a good tar and feathering!

Wow! You support that guy??? And as far as the election went, wow YOU SUPPORT THAT GUY!?!?!? Wait'll you see what happens next. You're brilliant...just freagin' brain dead brilliant.

And before anyone complains, HE brought the politics into it. :)

Alford was such an awesome hire at the time. Everyone thought "next level" was coming, including me. Then we turn around and beat UCONN? I was on cloud 9.

Still never hated him like a LOT of people ended up but it was clear that he wore out his welcome in Iowa City.

That being said it was 10 years ago. Might be time to move on.

You wanted 3 more years of Alford after 8 mostly mediocre seasons? There's always risk when you change coaches, but Alford had already proven he was no Miller, Olson, or Davis.

IMO Alford over promised and under delivered, and seemed to show no humility in failure. It's no wonder some Iowa fans think he's in over his head at the Power 5 level. What's different 9 years later?

What do I tell my conservative friends who also wanted Alford out at Iowa? Please do tell..

I'm glad I read your post before I responded because you said it a lot nicer than I was going to. I can't figure out what party affiliation has to do with what some one posts on an open forum. Idiot post by mtown66 IMO.

Does his little boy still play for him or is he gone?

Little Alford does still play at the 2. Averages exactly 20 ppg, shooting 95% free throws, 50% on threes. Never was a point guard, but a helluva shooter.

And a cheering thought for the haters - UCLA & Kentucky ranked 1-2 (in that order) for 2017 recruiting class. Try Tums.

That team that's beaten Iowa 6 of the last 7 games, soon to be 7 of 8? Leave it to an Iowa fan to bring ISU into an Alford thread. But you don't care about us.

Not enough to be on Cyclone Fanatic monitoring their board for anything mentioned about the Hawkeyes. You see, I'll explain this but I don't think it will do any good.

One little tiny joke about ISU, and I think it's the only time your cesspool has been mentioned on here all day, does not make for a fixation on anything in Ames. Only the most very narcissistic type, like a bothersome and intrusive little brother, would even think twice about something like that.

You, on the other hand, "Kinky F", are behaving exactly like that kind of character by stalking this board looking for ISU mentions. It's a very sick hobby quite frankly. Will do you no good in the end. Your wretched end.

And congrats you've had a good run in basketball of late. Too bad you are too immature to act like a winner who is used to it. Annoying as hell you are.

I hope some of that sunk in. Well, actually I'd be surprised if you even make it halfway through before starting your response about how nice it smelled when you had your head shoved up Hoiberg's meat cavern.

Leave it to an ISU fan to be on an Iowa board.

So Dan, after reading your post and many of the others, just what makes you any better than you paint Alford to be. The myth that Alford supported a rapist is false. He believed and supported his player. That is something many coaches do. Alford promptly booted Pierce upon his second offense. I never once have read or heard of Luke Recker complaining about how Alford used him. It doesn't mean that he didn't, but I have read enough of your arrogant BS on here over the years that I would like to have a link with direct quotes before I believe you. Now before I am accused of defending Alford which I am not, understand that I am finding fault with the way you Alford hating Iowa fans can not get over being Butthurt that Alford left when you wanted him fired. He left, you should have been ecstatic but instead here you are some 9 years later still sitting on that O ring pillow. It was embarrassing 9 years ago how you fools acted and it is even more embarrassing today. Get over it and move on, Stop acting like a liberal Democrat. George Soros isn't paying you guys to continue to rag on about Alford is he?

"The myth that Alford supported a rapist is false." Breakfast of bull pie for you mtown66.

"Always one to stick up for his guys, Alford in 2002 did not stop at merely supporting his player while the facts were still coming to light. He clearly proclaimed Pierce’s innocence, in turn calling in to question the credibility of the accuser."

“I made a mistake. I think it was 12 years ago, in a press conference – at the Big Ten media day,” Alford told the Journal in April. “I did. I regret those remarks very, very much because that was never my intent to be disrespectful in any way, and I apologize for that comment.”

mtown66, That was second sentence in to your fictional account of life on your farm. Just, let it go. Alford was coach at Iowa, posters want to talk about him and you get all girlfriend mad over your boy getting bbq'd, don't read the dang thread! Look at the title! First Clue pal!
