Alford's seat is red hot, according to ESPN.

Do you guys realize how stupid, pathetic and petty that you look? You are all acting like a bunch of liberal Democrats.
It was time to stop making yourselves look ridiculous the day that he left Iowa, but you butthurt fools are still crying. It was ''fans'' like you that had Barta believing that he needed to show you that he was the boss. Barta's public admonishment of the basketball program caused Alford to give Barta and Iowa the finger and rightly so. It is never good policy to air any employment grievances in public. That was 9 years ago, you got what you wanted, and the next three years of Iowa basketball were all on you. Unfortunately it hurts that Alford has been more successful since he left Iowa than Iowa has been. Like I said, that is on you. Isn't it time to stop embarrassing Iowa?

Lonzo Ball will save his job
No he won't. Lonzo Ball is a good prospect. He's not a PG and he's got a horrible outside shot. I'm not sure what he's going to accomplish in 1 season at UCLA, especially with Alfraud Jr. playing the most minutes on that team. And none of that will really matter because his teams still don't play defense.

Ummm he sure as hell is a PG. he's averaging 7 assists a game along with 8 boards and for a horrible outside shot, he's shooting 38 percent from 3. He's a top five pick. Dude has John Wall athletic ability and Jason Kidd instincts and Passing. great prospect who is a future NBA all star

Hate Alford, Alford's son, and any future Alford progeny, that's your sad business. But anyone who has seen Lonzo Ball play knows he is a terrific point guard. Watched him in HS several times and on TV WITH UCLA. May be the best high school point guard I've ever seen.

Lebron was better. I'd imagine cp3 also but he's a rare, rare talent. Jason Kidd jr

You don't get out much. Very good basketball player but if he's the best PG you've ever seen, you need to get out more.

I just looked at his stats (haven't seen him play at UCLA yet but I did see him play AAU) and it appears he is playing the 1 spot at a high level. It will be interesting to see how the season progresses for him. It wouldn't be the first time I was wrong about a player.

Ah, what you just wrote is what is truly embarrassing to Iowa. Calling of names. Blaming liberals. Blaming Barta. Still dreaming of sainthood for Alford. Winning all that matters. Tell us, do you believe in science, or is that all liberal stuff?

LOL at the claim Alford is on the hot seat. Holy cow, his team is loaded. Lonzo Ball is an absolute stud, Bryce is a great shooter, the big guy is really good. They are stacked. This is a potential final four team, they certainly aren't flopping and Alford ain't going anywhere. Not to mention he has commitments from Ball's two younger brothers.

Yeah, we are all acting like a bunch of liberal Democrats. We disliked a guy who respected women so much that he protected a rapist. I mean, what's wrong with us for not respecting a guy who had Luke Recker and worked him like a plow horse through a knee injury instead of letting him get some health care (as in heal up). And of course he disrespected persons with special needs (That's a fact that didn't make the news, but true.) Told a woman to take a hike when all she asked was he sign a Hawkeye flag for a sick kid, a flag other coaches had already signed. (That did make the news.) Just to show what a small community Iowa City is, she used to baby sit for Dan Gable! But you know, Steve couldn't be bothered with all that but he could demand free services because of who he was.

I could go on and on but I'll finish with this. I was a lifelong, deep end, Hawkeye fan who became so sick of our coach that I couldn't watch the games. I QUIT watching for two or three years because of Alford. I came right back when he was finally gone and you can wave Lickliter at us but I can handle a little, or a lot, of losing as long as the coach isn't a piece of crud that actually deserved a good tar and feathering!

Wow! You support that guy??? And as far as the election went, wow YOU SUPPORT THAT GUY!?!?!? Wait'll you see what happens next. You're brilliant...just freagin' brain dead brilliant.

And before anyone complains, HE brought the politics into it. :)
There the people acting like liberal Democrats go again using facts to make their case...

It is time to stop worrying about Steve Alford!
I don't think anyone needs to worry about Alford. I think Fran would kill to get the number 3 recruit in the country who is averaging almost 17 points and 9.4 assists per game so far as a true freshman, he has 1 4 star and another five star as well.

Yeah.....got to see Lonzo Ball play a whole game. Oh my Lord! I didn't see any of that when I watched one of his high school highlight videos! Not sure who said it but he is a top 5 NBA draft pick. Awesome PG. He might save the Fraud's job. At least for 1 more year. I can admit when I'm wrong.

The kid is an absolute stud. He can carry that team a long ways, plus they have other players who are good. Ball's shooting form looks weird, and I'm not sure it won't need to be tweaked when he gets to the NBA, but in the games I've seen he's had no trouble making those shots beyond the arc.

So Dan, after reading your post and many of the others, just what makes you any better than you paint Alford to be. The myth that Alford supported a rapist is false. He believed and supported his player. That is something many coaches do. Alford promptly booted Pierce upon his second offense. I never once have read or heard of Luke Recker complaining about how Alford used him. It doesn't mean that he didn't, but I have read enough of your arrogant BS on here over the years that I would like to have a link with direct quotes before I believe you. Now before I am accused of defending Alford which I am not, understand that I am finding fault with the way you Alford hating Iowa fans can not get over being Butthurt that Alford left when you wanted him fired. He left, you should have been ecstatic but instead here you are some 9 years later still sitting on that O ring pillow. It was embarrassing 9 years ago how you fools acted and it is even more embarrassing today. Get over it and move on, Stop acting like a liberal Democrat. George Soros isn't paying you guys to continue to rag on about Alford is he?

If you're not interested why even open the thread? Some people are interested, I am one of them. It's not an obsession, and it's not a case of "butthurt" over him leaving. Good Lord, it was obvious to almost everyone, including Coach Alford, it was time to go. As for the political rants, keep it on HROT you are embarrassing yourself.

Nothing that Alford is experiencing is shocking. He's not a Power 5 coach. He had 9 years to prove himself at Iowa and failed. He went to NM and was successful because the competition was average at best. With or without a loaded roster (talent wise) .. Alford doesn't know what to do with it ... I initially said he wouldn't last more than 3 seasons at UCLA ... In my opinion he is simply a Dead Man Walking ... and honestly, he has been since he set foot on the campus.

Kobe Paras, a four-star recruit, withdrew from the school (UCLA) and transferred to Creighton because of academic issues.

Can that be right......Creighton is like Iowa State, regarding academic transfers...
At least Iowa State will use their 'private jet' to impress the basketball recruits.

The first time I have ever heard of players transferring to Iowa State when they were having academic issues someplace else. I would welcome any proof of such. It's pretty hard to prove something that does not exist.

Yes. Fran's record at Iowa is barely distinguishable from Alford's (and after Fran lays the dump this year I'll bet those winning percentages are even closer at the end of the season). If Alford sucks, so does Fran, because he's basically done the same.

Anybody who thinks Alford is gone after this year is ignorant of basketball or hasn't seen UCLA play this year.

Alford was at Iowa for 8 seasons, not 9. He made the NCAA tournament 3 times (in his first 7 years), and he won a B1G tournament. Fran has made the NCAA tournament 3 times in his first 7 years. One of those tournament trips you can put a huge asterisk next to because it was really a quasi-play in game (NCAA first four), something they never had during Alford's time at Iowa. Also, Fran has never even come close to winning the B1G tournament. Alford won the B1G tournament twice and finished runner-up another time.

7-0 this year with the talent to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament. Iowa fans would love to have UCLA's players this year. Call it like it is. Alford and Fran are both very avg coaches. At least Alford can recruit and sign a quality PG, Fran is still looking for his first one after 7 years.

Hard to argue with this.
I sure as hell hope that Connor is the answer at PG...for everyone's sake.

The comparison can only be fair if you take into account what Fran inherited when he got here vs. when Alford arrived.

Both inherited c**p, but at least Lick recruited and had players signed/lined up his final year, he didn't stop recruiting for his final year, like Dr. Tom left for Alford. The program was in better shape when Dr. Tom left, but you can't underestimate the damage done to recruiting with a lame duck year (it not only means you have no recruits lined up for a new coach first year, it also means you've laid the groundwork for no future recruits). Pretty fair to say Alford was left a mess to clean up, and Fran was left a mess to clean up. The messes were just of a different order.

You basically led the charge of hate all those years ago and those Licklighter years are on your hands as much as anyone's. You got what you wanted and you must live with the consequences. Thankfully, along came Fran and hopefully, you will let him do his job.

I've read it all now: That Fran inherited a program in as good of shape as Alford is laughable.

Iowa was the WORST team in the B1G when Fran came to town!

Unbelievable. Alford was the hottest coaching prospect in the nation at that time of his hire.

You cannot seriously think the hottest young coach in America would have given Iowa a sniff seven years ago.

Oh yeah, those hot shots did not. The program was a joke.

1. You are correct about Alford starting with more. It wasn't leaps and bounds more because Davis's last season had a lot of SRs on it that ended up going to the Sweet 16.
2. Alford was at SW Missouri St. Any P5 conf job would have been appealing. Particularly a BIG job.

1. Iowa basketball perception wise was 100 times better during that time period. Seven years ago we had a DIII point guard and were scoring 35 points a game. Again, perception-wise Alford inherited a program coming off a Sweet 16 appearance.

2. Alford was the hottest young coach in the nation. He had his pick of many, many programs at the time. He was basically Shocka Smart from a few years ago.

We're discussing a hypothetical, but I'm interested to read your response: You seriously think the Alford coming off a Sweet 16 with SW Missouri St. would have picked an Iowa-Lick-level program to be his first major stepping stone?

Perception was better but we were all but locked ojt of Chicago Public school recruiting, thanks to Pearle.
Your recollection of Alfraud's prospects are vastly different from mine. If he had other P5 job offers when we hired him, you'll have to provide a link to prove that. He was considered a good, up and coming young coach but comparing him to Smart is not close. If my recollection is wrong, please provide me a link. Thanks.

Alford played Duke extremely close in the Sweet 16, played for Bobby Knight and won a national championship as a player. He was hot.

I'll let you find a link stating Iowa was not thrilled with the hire.
