They are like 99.9% white. Trump threw them to the curb and Chuckles of Iowa and Assley are trying to get Iowa an exemption from the tariffs. Should other countries actually sack up and play hardball, which might happen this time, where is all that corn and soybean going to go to? Should I build a silo? Magats chime in.

I watched the Reagan era unfold. To be honest, I have no idea how it plays out. If Trump is right about it, you'll be in great shape. Unfortunately, I'm not sure it will.

Trump tells farmers to "have fun"

Seems like most Americans forgot what happened on the first round of tariffs during the Trump 1 admin.
Taxpayers had to spend billions bailing them out that time.

All your $1 worth of "DOGE savings" are going to get pulled back w/ another $10 to bail out America's farmers, meat producers and dairy.

Don't worry, though....them hedge fund managers will be at the ready to buy up all your land at fire-sale pricing!!!

Hey, I'm looking to buy cheap farmland. This is going to be a buyer's market for land and real estate very very soon.

No matter how cheap any foreclosed farm land is, there will always be corporations or investment firms willing to pay more than you at any/every auction.

Iowa farmers all voted for Trump, only to potentially lose their farm. Maybe they can rent it back from an investment firm. Wall Street and Billionaires win again. Nice job Iowa MAGA farmers.

If Trump gets to choose between a billionaire or a small farmer to come out on top, who does he usually go with?

95.4% which is pretty close.

How can convince more Asians to take up farming instead of buying motels and gas stations?
Is it wise to go to college and after graduating walk into the bank and ask for $12,000,000 loan to buy a 1,000 acre farm?

Farming is like winning the lottery when you inherit the land. If you screw it up bad enough just sell your land for $10,000-$15,000 an acres and retire.

It’s about impossible if you don’t.

It remains to be seen what little is ;)

The Orange Turd's obvious fantasy of U.S.'s retreat into isolationism has too many minefields. This is one of them. Domestic markets can't support production of many products. We have demand and excess. Most countries do, so countries trade. Countries have varying products, so trading makes sense.

The Orange Turd just can't reconcile with we import more than we export. It's capitalism. If it was advantageous to

Countries have varying labor costs, so it makes sense to utilize those costs. The Orange Turd has a fixation with the United States having a wall around it, all things relating to it internalized. It really makes you wonder if he has an advanced education, and with no commons sense, the narcissistic side of his disorder is apparent.

I'd heard somewhere this worked out really well for Red Lobster and the Hedge Funds that bought them out...

I get that an inheritance is like winning the lottery, but farming seems like work.

Livestock/dairy farming? Yes, daily work & can be long hours

Crop farming? Not nearly as much. Busy during planting and harvesting seasons. Not really a ton to do otherwise. You don't spray or fertilize anything "daily" like you need to feed cows or pigs or chickens.

If you are talking about corn/soy farmers its 99 plus. However, the largest acre farmer in IL is a Japanese born woman.

I didn't know you could be right about something.

What people pay for farmland never "pencils out".

It's just an investment because long term, the price/acre always increases.

That said, I'd say the probability of a subsidy bailout is pretty damn high.

Took 17 years to retrace 1981 to 97 and 1986 before the upswing started.

Prices tanked post ww1 boom in 1924, bottoming in 33 and fully retracing in 1954.

Since 2006ish and ethanol, it actually has been quite profitable (not all years). Prior to that you are correct if talking about commodity corn/soy farming.

Subsidies and crop insurance took the risk away. Quite a deal. Vilsack was over a lot of profits. Trump and Biden were very kind to farmers if that's how you want to look at it.

If you're referring to the Lo family, they retired from active farming ~10 yrs ago.

Largest landowners (for renting out farmland) in the state are "Elder Price and Elder Cunningham"...

Believe I read a story fairly recently that all states in the country will now be required to provide ethanol gasoline at the pumps, so that should help corn prices.

Farmer I know said his two toughest years, besides a few in the 80s were during Trump's first term. He is not happy about this development.
That would be drought related and he didn’t have crop insurance. Trump was farmer socialist. Federal crop insurance is heavily subsidized If he is heavy livestock then maybe

No it's not. You can't compete against CAFO's. Also, there are still a shit ton of east and west coasters looking to buy farmland in the Midwest. You might compete with them, but they'll go out of their way to outbid you.

However, Remember ol’45/47 went bankrupt owning a casino! Anything is possible.

Plus foreign speculators, and the large corporate farms. The 10,000+ acre ownership groups are far more likely to soak up the small farms.
