recently came across a youtube clip by a cbs affiliate station about a guy who decided to get his ear cleaned. he went to his doc, in and out in 15 mins. but received 2k bill. as i understood the video his insurance provider (aetna) contracted/coded this procedure with the facility for 2K if patient pays (as was the case here coz he had not met his deductible yet). same procedure would have received $53 (or some such number) from aetna if aetna was paying. i suppose he still got a decent deal coz if had gone to ER bill might’ve been 25K
