Angel Reese - trying to alienate herself from her fans, I guess.

Plenty of companies don’t turn a profit but pay their lower-skilled workers more than that.

Again, not a fan of hers, but seems odd for a first-round pick to have to rent a one-bedroom place out in the Chicago suburbs in order to make a living.
She is an idiot. Its simple finance. She doesn't have to live in an 8k a month place. She chooses to.

Ok, I’m backing out of trying to defend Reese… clearly not the place for it. Lol

i don't know how you can say that...would you say that CC doesn't generate revenue for the league? do you think $75,000 is a "fair" salary for her? because that seems pretty crazy

i don't know how to really quantify it, but there can be a handful of players that are popular enough to generate revenue for the league and still have a league that isn't profitable overall

i would guess that the players earning millions of dollars in personal endorsement deals are also contributing/generating more fan interest and revenue for the league
We're not talking about CC, we're talking about Angel Reese. Her team averaged the 5th lowest attendance this past season, 9k/game fewer than CC's team.

8,757/game in 2024

They averaged 7,242/game in 2023

Take away the two Indiana games where they averaged almost 10k attendance and the increase isn't as big.

WNBA has been around since 1997. Not sure a lot companies lose money for 27 straight years and still pay low skilled workers $70,000+ a year.

Is there a business plan for a startup that includes a 28+ year plan for profitability?
Nailed it. ^^ To answer the question above...not one that relies on any lender financing, there isn't. :)

I’m not a fan but her point is valid. That WNBA pay seems quite low.

For those talking about excessive rent, let’s say her rent was $5,000/mo. Her pay still wouldn’t cover it.
Yes, for a company that has never turned a profit and been in business for years, her salary seems low and she should definitely be publicly complaining about it.

She is without a doubt one of the most unlikable idiots on the planet

DON'T SEXUALIZE ME. Dresses like a hooker

QUIT BRINING UP CAITLIN CLARK. Talks about her constantly

KEEP IT REAL. I live in an 8K a month apartment

WE DON'T MAKE ENOUGH MONEY. Screw Caitlin Clark!

God she sucks
Don't go all aggrieved. You were off to a decent start in this thread.
Reese has generally been willing to credit CC for energizing the league, and be complimentary of her personally and professionally.
Her problem, if it is even a problem, is she talks too much. But kids today with the social media and the podcasts aren't playing by the rules old people like us grew up with.

Meh. You can see right through her compliments.

I own a condo I rented out for years in Chicago. Two bedroom two bath unit 1,600 SF, luxury appliances in a doorman secured building with full Gym facilities, rooftop deck in the west loop. Rent is <4,000 and it is <2 miles from the United center.

She chose to live in an ultra luxury unit when she could have had very nice properties for much much less.

In a larger city that's not uncommon.
It is uncommon, aside from people making mid 6 figure salaries.

You can find non-penthouse properties to rent that are much more middle class for a fraction of that.
She just wants to "live large"; will likely end up penniless in 20 yrs after her career is over, having squandered all her earnings and licensing $$ on expensive shit.

I'm sure that's true but those people are most likely working 5 days a week at regular jobs. She's playing a game for 5 months.
U think these players only show up on "game nights"?

I concur on her being able to find something else to supplement income in the off-season, tho.

In a larger city that's not uncommon. A two bedroom in Seattle with go for 9k. A penthouse 12k to 17k.

Assuming she has a two bedroom I am not surprised.
Very true but it still doesn't disprove the point that the rent is too high for the NBA salary alone.

Her problem is she's ignorant. She always includes herself in the discussion of energizing the league. Take a look at the attendance figures comparing her team and Indiana and see who energized the league.

I like her, actually. Mainly bc she’s hot af
She’s pretty, but no one that messy and ****ing stupid can be considered “hot.”

I honestly don’t know why Angel Reese triggers so many people. She’s obviously miserable and is chasing a self image she’ll never achieve. Angel is the type of young chick you shake your head at and feel sorry for.

She has a lot of maturing to do and will probably never get there. Having such a sleazy dimwit for a coach in college did Angel no favors.

No I'm sure she practices and does other things throughout the week most maybe if not all pro athletes get paid in season. That's why I said she gets paid to play a game for 5 months which is a fact.

That’s a bit unfair. Lots of practice, training and travel.

If the WNBA television viewership continues to increase, these women will see better paydays - and they will deserve it.

Silly for them to be whining now - they need to embrace the new popularity and stay positive, be patient and they will be rewarded.

There’s no reason she should be spending 8K in rent, even in downtown Chicago. Hopefully she gets a good financial advisor to set her straight because it sounds like she’s on the Antoine Walker plan.
She's not that smart.

I think one could argue that for much of its short history, the WNBA was not treated as a serious league that could be profitable….for whatever reason, Clark and the current young crop of players has brought more awareness to the league and its product than they’ve had in the previous 25 years.

In addition to the athletic apparel brand, Reese has signed endorsement deals with brands like Beats by Dre, Tampax, Airbnb, Amazon, Playstation, Bose, Raising Cane’s, Sonic, and Mielle Organics worth an estimated total of $1.8m, per Spotrac.
Pretty sure I read something not too long ago about her signing with Reeses too. Which makes perfect sense.
