Another Solid Showing by CMac Today

CMac is getting better every game. You need a player like him to make an NCAA run.

Although we're all pretty frustrated after the MSU game, there were a lot of positives, including the play of CMac and the bench guys. It was also our best game of the year on the road against a contender. We took MSU to the brink in a place where not many teams go into and win. We also did that without CJF and with JW curled up in the fetal position the entire time.

Who knows; this might FINALLY be the year in which the entire team is firing on all cylinders at the right time. Got a few weeks to figure it out.

Him and Pemsl are really passing well right now. With Weiskamp slumping and CJ out, my only thought is that Connor needs to look for his own shot just a little more. He’s gone away from posting up smaller players like he did earlier in the year, I thought he missed an opportunity last night to do that. But yeah, he’s playing at a really high level on offense and defense.

"Leading the nation" covers one heckuva lot of territory. For CMac to lead the entire basketball world in one of the most important yet underrated categories--assist to TO ratio--is unbelievably awesome. Add to that his no nonsense, in-your-face attitude, and you've got yourself one terrific PG. You really can't give the young man enough credit, especially when he's in the spotlight because his dad has an important job in the basketball program.

Iowa has a great bunch of young men, and CMac is one of the leaders . . . ask the nation.

Something positive had to happen today.

He is leading the nation with a 4.25 assist to turnover ratio.

38 minutes, 11 points, 3 steals, 7 assists, and 0 turnovers.

Connor McCaffery continues to win over Hawkeye fans.

There was a time earlier in his career when the coach’s son was more polarizing for the fan base. Now, the redshirt sophomore has become galvanizing.

Night after night, McCaffery’s toughness and smarts are on display. And his shot is coming along.

He pumped in 11 points Tuesday, breaking a string of 16 straight single-digit scoring games, and added seven assists with no turnovers in 38:19 of court time.

His cold-blooded 3 that gave Iowa a 49-41 lead with 15:09 left looked like it could be a dagger, but Michigan State didn’t wilt. In fact, the game got even more physical from there.

After ward, McCaffery showed why he is becoming a fan favorite with his response to a question about the game's physical nature. After taking a 55-53 lead, Iowa was called for 11 fouls in the final 8:35 to Michigan State's three.

“Definitely added physicality up here,” he said. “But you’ve got to play through it. No team in the history of basketball has come into the Breslin Center and got a good whistle.

“You need to just toughen up, don’t talk about it, don’t complain and just play. I think we did that for most of the game. I think we fought. I thought for the most part, we were tough. We just needed a few more bounces to go our way.”

Great quote. And can’t argue with it.

I always thought criticism of Conner was unfair. Accusations of nepotism was nauseating. Bunch of grown up people with fake names attacking a 19 year old kid online. Classy!
