I host an annual March Madness party that is now cancelled.... but still taking Thursday and Friday off. Live in the Twin Cities but thinking about heading south to Iowa for a few days if any courses are open.
Otherwise maybe Top Golf will be open up here or hit a golf simulator 8 hours a day.

Airport National near Cedar Rapids was scheduled to open Wednesday. I'm not there so I don't know if it did, but assume it did. I think snow is predicted this weekend, though.

Urbandale Golf and Country Club...where the elite meet..opened last Saturday. :p Actually everything was quite playable and there are signs of growth this week w/ the sunshine and rain.
Carts on paths only, though.

Legacy in Norwalk as well as the Des Moines City courses are open, Waveland for sure as I see golfers on it as I drive on 235.

Allegedly Illinois golfers aren't being allowed to golf in the Iowa QC starting tomorrow. I hope this is true because the lines were long a both Davenport public courses today with a lot of Illinois license plates in the parking lots.

Played today with my buddy in NW Iowa. Rode in separate carts and had a good time. Good first outing for a shitty golfer like myself, too. Felt nice to get out.

Not a golfer but drove by Hyperion in Johnston today and it was packed

I actually played a couple weeks ago when it got warm for a bit here in SE Iowa (local course where I am a member with my own golf cart out there.....so didn't matter that the clubhouse wasn't open).

Wild thing was it was after we had that two feet of snow melt and the course wasn't even hardly wet in the low spots because it was still so dry out.....plus practically no frost in the ground this year so instead of pooling up at the surface, the ground just soaked it all up.

Actually going to have an "appointment" this afternoon at about 3 pm and go play 9 holes.

PSA For those of you that want to experience almost golfing in Florida, check out Briarwood in Ankeny. Word on the street is it is like your standard golf course in Florida - in the middle of a neighborhood, no elevation at all, & most of the par 4s are the same yardage.

Hey now, hole 16 has like a 10 foot drop from the tee to the fairway! A plus is you get to tee off three feet away from some guy's garage.

Wild weather year for sure. Sent my clubs to florida on our vacation for the first time ever 2 weeks ago. Just sent them back last thursday when I was done with them, and they're 'out for delivery' today so after work I'm literally unboxing them and going out for the first regular round of the season. Who knew I'd be waiting on them to get back from florida to play outdoors here on February 21st...

I enjoy it there I don’t think any members claim it to be something it’s not.
My experience, especially since it turned private, is they think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. In reality there's six or seven courses within 25 miles of Briarwood that are better tracks.

They’re is no one out there that thinks that. If they do they are idiots.

Curious what you think better? 25 miles DMG Wakonda Glen Oaks and Legacy are all out. Hyperion is nicer. TCI is cooler but their drainage sucks unless it used too. Toad Valley out Echo out. Harvester out.

So you can just go out and golf any time you want because you have a cart there and are a member?
I’m sure you really make groundskeeper happy if you just go and play on your own terms.

I was only referring to public courses. Damn near every private course is better than Briarwood. You are right, I should have upped it to 35 miles. Otter, Jester, Veenker, Coldwater, Honey Creek, Legacy. TCI has its problems but is also under renovation. It is objectively a much better layout/course than Briarwood.

I didn’t think about Ames. Not a fan of Otter but to each. Legacy like I said outside of 25 miles. Like I said it’s nothing special but I’ll take my max 4 minute drive to golf basically whenever I want over 60 min round trip. Only place I would justify that is Harvester.

Harvester is easily my favorite in the state. I haven't played it since the renovation ~2021 but it seems even better than it was. Such a cool course.

Personally, Otter Creek I like better….Jester is still a decent track considering the # of rounds it gets annually…..Cold Water?? Or is that too far??

Played Harvest last year it is awesome and a beast. Also played Talons. Amazing they could get 18 (19) holes in that property but it works. The greens are lightning.

Agree to disagree.

Got my 4th round of the year in today. Probably going to play tomorrow too. So far have played Terrace Hills, Jester Park, Blank and Toad Valley. Toad was in great shape today. My home track is legacy and is open, but cart path only. I know Beaver Creek is also open. Cooper is opening next week.

A thread from 2020....In Iowa City, I believe PV is open. Brown Deer will open Saturday w/carts, maybe path only but it's been so freekin dry. Quail should open by the 1st of March, if not sooner? Not sure about Solon, it wouldn't surprise me if both courses were open. Finkbine and RSide won't open until April.
