Just wondering if there is any chance he could be back next Saturday.

He better return with a better attitude for denfense and rebounding or he will be watching

I think the Omaha game was a wakeup call to the whole team or at least it appeared that way last night. Hoping that Cook is part of that process too. A young team will have inconsistency, but I think last night can be a start of a trend for improved defense at least. Rebounding is more about desire so that is still to come IMO

Hold on everyone i did not say he has a bad attitude but needs to up his defensive effort

With his skills and physical body he can also be a force on the defensive side

I see nothing wrong with his defensive effort. I see an inexperienced freshman who needs to get some experience, watch film, and play smart. Pemsl emerging as a vocal leader defensively should help Cook immensely.

Buffalo isn't totally off base here but phrased it poorly when he said "better attitude about defense and rebounding". Cook does need to improve in those areas, I doubt it's attitude as much as focus.

Last night this team experienced that it starts on the defensive end. Cook will fall right in line with that. He has an extremely strong skill set to draw from.

Cook is young but no signs of an unwillingness to work hard. I just dont think he understands what it takes on D yet but he isnt alone. I think that UNO game was a slap in the face to the team and they know if they want to have a decent year they are going to have to bring it every night on D.

Once he learns defensive positioning and rebounding at this level the dude will be a beast. Already has the offensive game to go with it.

Seems like most guys Cook's size with Cook's athleticism are better rebounders and can block shots. It is surprising he hasn't been more of a force on defense. Still early, could turn it on.

He is five games into his Freshman year! 5! Let's give him a little time before we declare he can't rebound or defend. If he looks terrible halfway through B1G play and looks like he is giving no effort defensively then rag on him a little bit, but man.

Things move quicker than in high school and some take some time to adjust

Are you expecting double digit rebounds per game? He's avg 5.33 in 6 games with 6 and 7 vs UVA and Memphis. Some people have unreal expectations.

To me it seems that he has been apprehensive to get any fouls when defending the post. He Really has played soft one on one D down low IMO. The biggest fault of the D has been getting back on the break and then backside help the helper D which leads to dump off dunks or weak side offensive rebounds (it was nice that mostly got cleared up against ISU).

Now that Cook and Fran sees this team can still put up big offensive numbers without Cook I hope they decide to have him be more active defensively and have less worry on picking up too many fouls.

5.33 rebounds when there is no one else on the team taking away from his share, very little shot blocking, not much defense. I don't see it as impressive for a gut that wants to play in NBA. Yeah, I think he could do better given his athleticism and I said he very well might get better in my post.

Maybe you are easily impressed/low energy guy.

per Fran they are shooting for NDakota 12/20..assuming no set backs.

To add to what Fran said, he will be three weeks post surgery on the index finger by next Tuesday. But, he hasn't been doing any basketball activities. Riding the bike and running, but nothing with the ball yet. Won't be cleared to do that before next week. Fran certainly wants him out there and Tyler wants to play right away, but we have to see how he is feeling with the ball in his hands.

Probably bring him off the bench for limited minutes depending on game situation while he rounds into shape with his ball handling and shooting. Pretty easy to take shots on a finger from a hard pass, a hard rebound, or a defender chopping at the ball in your hands. I'd hope it's either fully healed or that they start with it taped to an adjacent finger to avoid the worst case scenario for an extra week (but still start getting him reps early enough to be ready January).

You know he's going to be a starter so I'd start him ASAP and then limit his minutes but as a starter. They need to get used to playing together.

Geez let the poor kid rest and heal, there is no need to bring him back until the Purdue game on Dec 28th. Bring him back slowly, He will still be in good condition and that's when we will need him anyway. I would rather have him 100% healed than to risk reinjury and losing more playing time.

Or a hard dunk......

Ideally, Cook will play before the B1G starts, but better to be err on the side of not risking re-injury. Cook will only get better on both ends of the court.

A very good point. Quite often you see these guys come back to soon, and aggravate the injury. Would much rather he's full steam for the BIG season.

Probably going to do what the doctors tell them they can do. The department has become fairly cautious with respect to medical issue since the mysterious rhabdo virus.

Last time Cook started, he started with Williams, Jok, Baer, and Uhl. The team he will be starting with next week looks much different. Baer is the hardest working player on the team, but his size holds him back on the block. Uhl is simply not a center. That left Cook. He is was a 4 playing the 5 role. Now we will get to see him playing the position he was built for with a much stronger group around him. By the end of the regular season, if this team misses the tournament, it will not be by much.
