Anyone heard of this kid before?

I think there was zero surprise that he chose ND once their offer came in. Alt is a Catholic, and he really wanted to go to ND.

He would have picked Iowa if Chris Doyle hadn’t been canned.
Eliminating a prospecive college team based on the strength and conditioning coach is silly. Doyle was an excellent S&C coach no doubt but there were dozens of peer S&C coaches just as good or better. He also exhibited some troubling behavior which cost Iowa.

There are not even one dozen equal to or better than CD let alone dozens. And he did not exhibit troubling behavior. Just a bunch of made up bullcrap to try and get paid.

An independent firm, Hausch Blackwell (HB), was hired by the University to conduct a comprehensive review of the football program. HB issued a report which concluded that the program "pertpetuated racial bias". In addition, HB also forwarded four confidential personnel reports. Doyle's employment was terminated. Kirk Ferentz apologized. The University later settled a player law suit for $4.175M.

You can live in a make-believe world IDC. Your opinion is refuted by established facts.

“Perpetuated racial bias” is really open to interpretation isn’t it? There were 7-10 guys that made claims of the 100’s of African American men that passed through the doors. James Daniels probably said it best on washed up walkons. He wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, he said off color things to everyone, regardless of race. Mr. Doyle did far more good for far more men than he did harm over his career.

No it isn't. It was a foundational conclusion made by an independent firm after a top-to-bottom investigtion. The University of Iowa's President, AD, and head coach accepted this conclusion. Objective Iowa fans will do the same.
if I don’t like dreads and earrings that doesn’t make me a racist. It means I don’t like dreads and earrings. Right or wrong Doyle did not like individualism on the team. You can look back at DJK and see this happen before it happened. DJK, the last I knew, regrets his actions and accepts what he was handed. I believe in the fundamental goodness in all people. I don’t know enough about any of the aggrieved to have an opinion on their character. We know Akrums character. There are numerous reports of him not delivering the goods that were paid for. And we can’t forget this “unbiased report” came during a racially explosive time where everything was magnified 100x fairly or not.

The statement that the coaches or the AD “accepted the conclusions of the report or what the the players contended is simply inaccurate. The decision to terminate Coach Doyle was a pragmatic one based on many things including the damaging publicity that his retention would engender. As with the settlement of the suit , Coach Ferentz did not support the findings of the report nor having to terminate Coach Doyle. Much as the termination of his son was necessary he acquiesced to what was best at the time for the long term outlook of the program. As an aside the strength and conditioning coach is integral to most lineman’s decision making regarding the school they choose.

They "accepted the conclusion" did they. The stuffed shirts have ZERO idea what goes on in damn near every locker room in college and high school football. As for Kirk, do you REALLY think they left him any choice but to pick someone to fall on the sword?

Hausch Blackwell is very well regarded law firm with an experienced and highly respected compliance/internal investigations division. They have more than 250 higher education clients and are trusted to perform professional fact-finding investigations because they have a track record of doing so. HB is not an activist law firm lol.

If this was "just a bunch of made up bull crap" as you have claimed, HB's team of investigators would not have discovered and documented a pattern of actual racial biases, Kirk Ferentz and Gary Barta would have strongly denied it, Chris Doyle would not have been terminated, and the University would have vigorously defended the action by presenting their case before an impartial jury.

That Doyle - and Doyle alone - was immediately placed on administrative leave strongly indicates that the administration knew what was up and where the problem was located. The fact that Doyle was ejected almost 6 weeks before the HB report was released further indicates that the University had presented with sufficient credible evidence of his troubling behavior.

Your trying to push a boulder up a mountain.

Not if that coach was considered one of the best and your father endorses him as well.

Was their report completed before the actual depositions were conducted? That was an interesting read and I believe it occurred after HB had submitted their report.

What about this Control Alt Delete everyone keeps raving about at work?

People would be surprised at what goes into recruits decision making. I think it’s silly that someone would dismiss the importance of a coach that the player would spend the most amount of time with while in the program.
Heck my kid listed the laundry facilities in the dorm on his pro/con list during recruiting visits.

To say Ferentz and Barta disputed the bottom-line conclusion that a pattern of racial biases was perpetuated is inaccurate.

More than 100 individuals including coaches, staff members, and former/current players were interviewed. I agree and am fairly certain that the certain incidents alleged by some of the players were disputed. That does not change the investigation's central finding. The administration did not contest the report's conclusion. In other words, they accepted it.

They accepted it to stop paying lawyers and to make it go away. Many issues are handled this way these days.

Dozens Huh ? Stop making a slip and fall money grab a landmark legal case. Thanks for the flaming liberal point of view, nobody buys that BS.

The State of Iowa has enough funds to cover legal bills, this case would not break the bank LOL. I would not doubt that the University wanted to get this behind them.
I have been involved in a number of similar cases and a primary decision making factor is always to pay the lesser of two amounts. Even if it seems like you are conceeding, paying less is the better of two evils. I don't care how deep of a pocket one has. And the State of Iowa is still accountable for the appropriate expense of funds.

Of course they did, because everyone involved knew that the accusations alone, (regardless of merit) were enough to create a level "well there's smoke, so there must be fire". Funny when most of the complaintents were deposed under oath how many of the stories changed or we're totally admitted to be false. Stuff like, "we couldn't wear our hair in dreads or to show our culture". Jees, okay, what about Bob Sanders or Adrian Claybourne, who had Long Dreads then and now. Two BELOVED former players, and favorites of KF's even today. Real racial bias or outright fallacy? Then one of the linchpins of this whole mess, Wadley, and his claims of how badly he was treated? And yet after all this came out, his mother is contacting Kirk trying to get him to offer a scholarship to her younger son? Must have been really bad for young Akrum, huh? Even James Daniels. If things we're so bad at Iowa then why did he go there since his brother had already been on the team for several years. Why did his parents allowed their 2nd son to follow his sibling into such a racially biased situation? Is that what a parent would do?

None of this refutes the bottom-line conclusion of Hausch and Blackwell. That investigation was comprehensive in scope without determining illeglity whereas the subsequent lawsuit involved a smaller number of players which alleged specific violations of federal statutes. These are separate and distinct.

HB reported a racial and diversity fire inside the program which the University did not dispute. The player lawsuit was settled so we will never know whether there was any fire behind the violation of civil rights smoke, as determined by an impartial jury.

And YET many of the people that H&B got statements and "evidence" from later recanted their supposed claims when threatened with possibly perjury. Did the law firm do a follow up to their release when several of the "victims" changed their stories? No, I didn't think so...

good one but they told the client the opposite...... looks like Barta screwed this one up lol.

If that was the case here Iowa would have paid HB to report back that the Iowa football program is the perfect model for cultural diversity and Chris Doyle is an outspoken advocate for culturtal tolerance worthy of special recognition and a substantial raise.

So are you saying that the HB report based their findings on interviews with players. Stories that changed when there was a threat of perjury for telling inaccurate stories in their interviews?
It was interesting to read the depositions.

certainly some of "the information" had to come from the accusers, and yet when many of them changed their stories later, where was HB to review this information. Job done at that point.
