How do you plan to get to the USS Iowa event (if you plan to go to that) on Dec 31st?

We are, and I don't.
Are you part of the Alumni Assn travel package? My nine year old son and I are. Just trying to figure out the best way to get around LA to events/attractions not included in the package.

Ha! My wife, 9 year old son and I are going. Flying out of Cedar Rapids on the 30th. I figured we would find out how to get to the ship when we get to LA.

We are staying at the downtown Sheraton. We are debating either Universal or a sightseeing package

In my experience, you can get almost anywhere on the subway/metro line in almost any big city. Uber is the way to go in most big cities if you don't want to mess with public transportation. I've never been to LA, but am planning on using Uber, as it has been outstanding for me in Scottsdale, Phoenix, San Diego, and Chicago.

You will want to take the silver line bus from Downtown LA to San Pedro (pronounced San Peedro). The Iowa is located at the LA waterfront.

You can also ride the Red Line Metro from downtown to Universal studios up in Studio City. The metro stop is at the bottom of the hill with a shuttle that drops you off at the front gate and Universal City Walk. You can also take the Red Line metro to check out Hollywood (Get off at the Hollywood & Highland station) for walk of fame and Mann Chinese theater and other cheesy Hollywood stuff.

You could even take the Gold Line metro from downtown to Pasadena for the parade and game if you don't mind walking a little bit from downtown Pasadena to the Rose Bowl. I did it a couple weeks ago and it wasn't too bad but if you have little kids or elderly people in your group it might be a bit much.

Uber is great in LA and you can get a ride at almost anytime of day or night. There will probably be an up charge during New Years eve and the Rose Bowl up in Pasadena because of capacity limits but those peak times clear out of the system pretty quickly generally.
