At present there is no scholarship money available to Iowa Cheerleaders. If you are a returning member by your junior and senior years there are stipends for books that are available as a result of some donations made by Alumni. Squad members do have access to the athletics academic support.

If you are looking for a high end competitive cheerleading squad, Iowa is probably not a fit for you're daughter. They enter the UCA/UDA competitions each year by submitting a video entry, but unless they qualify directly into the final round which means UCA/UDA pay for their travel expenses to the national event, they don't go. The Athletic Department does not provide any funds for competition travel. It's a Varsity sport support squad first with competition second type program.

Email Gregg Niemiec. Go to the Spirit Squad page on Hawkeyesports.com and it has his email and other contact information.

They did go to nationals last year and placed just outside the top ten. I don't think they go this year due to too many new faces on the male side. IWork with a former cheerleader and will ask her about the money.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you--our former cheerleader didn't work for a few days, so I didn't see her. Anyway, she is a little fuzzy on the details; she knows a couple people were on scholarship, but doesn't know how much money they got or how they got it. She thinks they might have had to apply, but doesn't know for sure. Google u of iowa cheerleaders; that will take you to their website and there is a link to contact them. I'm sure if you explain your situation, they will give you the information. Sorry I'm not more help.

Hawkdog, here is the link to the Iowa Spirit Squad page on hawkeyesports.com. It has the FAQ section that pretty much answers most the questions you have above.
