Apparently Mac Markway now a Niblet…

What happened with this recruitment… Another Bollers scenario… Iowa is TEU and seemed like Iowa would be the best place to learn that position. That’s one position that I have the upmost respect for how the staff develops and recruits.
Iowa told him they wanted him as an OLine recruit. They only offered him as a TE later in his recruitment. The depth and incoming recruits are more than solid at the TE spot. He likely wouldn't see the field there.

Perhaps, but Iowa has a reputation for being the laughingstock of the nation when it comes to offense. Legacy recruit or not, no kid with quality P5 options is going to sign up for Kirk and Brian ball. It’s just not going to happen. Kasper said thanks but no thanks, and I am guessing Markway felt the same.

Stop being so shitty on offense and you might reel in a few more bigger fish in the portal. Pretty simple. With that said, I have no idea why he would want to go to Nebraska either. They have been shit too for several years now. NIL I guess?

Really?

You have something of substance to back up that claim?
Not sure about them reaching out to Iowa, but not only does the staff never guarantee positions, the likelihood that he would see the field at TE is near zero.

1.) Ostrenga
2.) Pascuzzi
3.) Hoffman/Burt/Leeper (leaving out any major surprises)

4.) Meyer, Johnson

I guess it’s all speculation at this point. I didn’t follow his progress at LSU, but apparently he didn’t play much there. I wonder why that was?

No. The worst offense has been Iowa hands down. Nebby has a good offense, just not good special teams and defense.
When you don't look at stats before making a dumbass comment. You do realize Iowa had more passing yards with Deacon Hill last year...More passing attempts, and fewer interceptions....They are both absolute dumpster fires.

Yeah, I was more interested in where he heard they reached out and Kirk told them no thanks.

Does 312 mean anything to you? Nevermind. Iowa was awesome on offense last year. :D

I have no inside knowledge or know if the poster does, but I'd agree if you look at the current roster and add the classes for 24 with Hoffman and Burt, and 25 class with Johnson and Thomas Meyer I can see them not being that interested in someone who passed on Iowa before trying to get into a stacked TE room. I think Hoffman from OP, Ks and Meyer are going to be the next studs

Actually, that's not true. The fact that Iowa is a laughingstock offensively is why we've had difficulty recruiting guys at WR (and, to a lesser extent, QB).

However, that said, TEs would still happily get mentored by Brian because of his NFL track record, in addition with how he helped with the development of Fant, Hockenson, and LaPorta. Furthermore, when healthy, our TEs were getting a ton of looks last year.

The Bollers scenario was one where Iowa projected him on the DL ... but he saw himself as an OLB. It was largely positioning that led to Iowa's exclusion ... not that Iowa was missing out in any other regard.

As another poster indicated, the Markway situation is pretty identical insofar that Iowa projected him on the OL ... and he saw himself at TE. Again, positioning is the culprit ... not that Iowa was really "missing" in any other regard.

Out of curiosity, why would Iowa project a four star, no. 7 overall TE in the 2023 class as an OL player? It states his time at Iowa was spent with Brian Ferentz discussing how he fits at TE and how they're used. Makes no sense and there is nothing on the web discussing it at the time.

I guess Iowa coaches trust their evaluations of a player more than they trust Rivals staff.

Iowa feels very good about the TE position currently and in the future.

We initially recruited him as an OL. We told him we saw him as a better fit there. The kid disagreed. We then said he would get an opportunity to come in as a TE if he wished. He picked LSU (after FL) because he bought the sales pitch. The Iowa staff doesn't rely on the recruitment rankings to evaluate kids. We tell the kids the truth and our vision. Plain and simple. We don't sell kids just to get them to sign.

My bad…in that case, his stats weren’t that great for someone with such playing time.
He's a solid football player. To be able to play as a Frosh at LSU is a big deal. With that being said, he was already passed up by 2 stud Frosh TE's and was behind Mason Taylor. His path to playing at LSU was getting longer. Hawkeyes like him at OL better.

Pssshhhh. I'll take winners with winning mentality. Not guys who end up at Nebraska. He must not be good enough to be a TE here based on his choice. We're elite over here.

Sounds like us. I don't appreciate everything about KF but this aspect, a huge one at that, does sit well with me. He isn't a salesman by any means. Tells it like it is when it comes to players more often than not.

I guess it’s all speculation at this point. I didn’t follow his progress at LSU, but apparently he didn’t play much there. I wonder why that was?

Actually, he played quite a bit…only started one game, but rotated in quite a lot…hey used him as a block in tight end (which he looked extremely competent at) which is most likely where the Nubs will utilize him.

Actually, he played quite a bit. I believe he appeared in every game for LSU (started one). They used him primarily as a blocking tight end, where he performed quite well (probably wear them nubbs will utilize him).
