I appreciate Fran saving us from the depths of despair and digging us out of the hole Lickliter created. It takes a certain kind of coach to do that. There are a lot of coaches who couldn't do that.
But I'm unappreciative of Iowa Basketball. I don't appreciate the culture. We don't play defense, and we the only reason we appear to have a pulse on the boards is because of the length and height Fran recruits. But more often than not, we don't showcase any of the fundamentals of finding your man, boxing him out, elevating and getting the rebound. I don't appreciate basketball cultures that don't do the little things, and Iowa doesn't do the little things on a consistent basis.
And finally, I'm done with the point guards who can shoot but can't defend. We need point guards who can defend as well as penetrate. You have to have supreme guard play in the NCAA tournament. Sure, I'd prefer to have at least 1 of 2 point who can shoot and play defense, but I don't want point guards who are absolute liabilities on the defensive end. Toussaint is my type of point guard, and we need two of them.
