Are they seriously not going to air the UNI/IA Game on TV?

Yes...ESPN 3 which sucks long and hard. This is the future of television for sure. Can all games pay per view be far behind?

Ya you'd think with both schools recent success, itd be on something better than ESPN3. But I guess it's better than BTN2 or BTN Plus for us out of Big10 country . At least I get ESPN3.

Depending on the price of the individual game, I don't think this is a problem. I'd much rather cut my (satellite) cord and just have Internet to stream when I want to pay $1-2 per game. Would have to watch 50+ games a month to have the price work out the same, and even that's a flawed analysis because many of them would be on traditional network TV (NFL, many college sports on weekends, etc).

Now, charge $5 a game, and I'm not quite as happy, but they will also lose revenues so that won't happen. Never mind the advertisers would be upset.

With bigger and better 4K TV's, I foresee all games as pay per view. I would be willing to pay if we didn't have all of the TV timeouts added in.

No. Blame the organizers, and especially blame the decision-makers at Iowa and Iowa State. This "tournament" has always been a POS. Its only purpose is to let Iowa and Iowa State avoid playing games at Drake and UNI.

Yup. It's the "hey, we're still playing you guys" with better financial terms.

Drake is in Des Moines, always a home game

I'm sure espn would sell rights for local broadcast to kwwl or kgan if they wanted to show the game.

Part of the deal that was made was the "home" team designation for these games changes. That is important as it determines which school owns the TV rights. Two years ago Iowa was the home team in Des Moines against UNI, and as such the BTN had the TV rights to the game.

Iowa and Iowa State can easily avoid playing those games by simply saying no. This is an attempt to throw them a bone that dip shits like you still don't appreciate, a top-25 game on a neutral court for a mid-major.

They probably would sell it, but not likely for a price that KWWL or KGAN is willing to pay. Why should ESPN undercut its own product (ESPN3) by selling it to TV stations located in the area where the most people are likely to be using ESPN3 to watch the game?

Actually the TV rights for both games rotate every 4 years. Iowa has the rights again this year being year 5. Therefore ESPN had first pick and chose to put it on ESPN 3.

Yep. Tournament is extended only to 2019. I am sure Iowa/ISU will never agree to a long-term extension that ties them into playing UNI and Drake. Nor should they. UNI and Drake are both guaranteed a neutral site game against either Iowa or Iowa State each year, at a location where their fans can easily go. Not as nice as getting Iowa or Iowa State on their home courts each year, but those days are never coming back.

Des Moines has the largest population of Northern Iowa alums so you think the panther fans would like to play there. Nope, they are still crying about losing the home games.

I would like to see the team play more "away" games across the state. It is a long drive for those of us up in NW Iowa down to carver. I catch the games at MINN every other year because that is only a couple hours away, used to go see the UNI games as well.

No matter how much I hate TV timeouts, I'd rather have that than limited access.... Give me my Hawkeyes everywhere, all the time....

As they should be. It was a great thing thumping Iowa at home and at Carver...even when losing to Iowa it was great fun for the fans due to the competitive games. Oh well.

Which is unfortunate. The format of the Big 4 Challenge has always been a joke. If they really wanted to do this right, not only for the teams but also the fans and the state of Iowa, it would be a two day affair. Iowa and ISU play both UNI and Drake with two games on Friday night and two games on Saturday night. You stand the chance of having a lot of people traveling to DSM for a two night stay, seems like a win/win for everyone involved.

Then again, I think its pretty ridiculous we don't play Drake and UNI annually home and away. I would much rather have Iowa host UNI and/or Drake with close to 13,000 people in the stands versus hosting Stetson or a half dozen other 300+ RPI teams Barta and Fran routinely bring into Carver for a mid week game that results in perhaps 6,000 paying customers in the arena.

Des Moines could host a very nice holiday tournament. Nice arena and the largest concentration of every Iowa schools' fans. It would take some local DSM money to literally obtain buy in from bigger name participants but you might be able to get some real nice TV coverage and Drake and UNI get some of that TV love as their consolation prize, and money of course, by participating in such a venture. There's plenty of money here so it would just take a good salesman to pitch the whole package.

.........and a another thing, pretty solid evidence of what I mean when I say no one cares about Iowa and even fewer still UNI. No TV on the 20 sports channels? Two NCAA qualifiers and game winners?

think both teams got tired of getting homered big time and treated like crap so said shove it. Those 2 teams can still play us if they want to come to our house.

This. The last time Iowa traveled to UNI was the most blatantly lopsided job of home cooked officiating I've ever witnessed. It was embarrassing and uncalled for. Iowa will never return to play UNI on their home court as long as Fran is coaching that is certain. Nor should they.

So on ESPN3 it asks for our provider. Will I be able to log on with my dish account or my father in laws Mediacom account?

Drake is in a real tailspin as far as wins and losses.
Northern Iowa should be in the upper half of MVC.
Iowa is at .500 record in the pre-conference.
Iowa State has already lost its ranking this season

Bottom Line: The 2016-17 Men's College Basketball
teams in Iowa will not be invited to the Big Dance in
March.

Yep. I was there with my brother and live just a stone's throw away from the McLeod Center. There is no reason to play there unless you are just doing it to throw UNI a bone and imho, I would rather see them starve. Having lived here most of my life, the adult fan base of Panther fans are the worst basketball fans around.
