We used to bring money for the missions to save " pagan " babies in Africa. 7 th grade catholic elementary school, the boys would compete against the girls to see who could raise the most money. The girls named their pagan baby Victoria after the queen. The boys named ours Fred, after Fred Flintstone. I often wonder how " Fred and Vicky " are doing today...

Unfortunately it’d take extended replies to flesh out the “both sides” aspects when it comes to religion.
For instance…the Bible and the Christian faith.
As I see it…Christianity is basically the New Testament but the old testament was thrown in because it was already “established” which has caused all kinds of problems for Christianity in modern times but was pivotal in giving it legitimacy in antiquity.
In addition the Roman Empire was the power broker of the time and any religion had to pass muster with the powers that be….Paul knew that.
Pretty amazing that the Christians went from getting thrown to the lions in the arena to the state religion under Constantine.
There’s a reason for that and it’s complicated.
Difficult subject to argue as there are SOOO many holes in the Bible. I’ve come to terms with this holes and consider myself a Christian with many caveats….

Is there any reason to believe in religion other than the possibility of having an afterlife? I believe this is the main reason that folks have faith.

I have a feeling that I'm going to offend some folks if I stay on this thread. And that is not my intent. There are so many things wrong with organized religion.
