Argentina elects far-right libertarian who wields a chainsaw during campaign rallies....

At one time Argentina was one of the richest countries in the world. Overspending and socialism has never been a good recipe for economic success.

We’re talking Argentina, so explain why you think it is ‘radical’ for them to dollarize their economy when the local authorities have such history of currency mismanagement.
I hadn't commented on that, but I do think it will be an interesting experiment if he manages to do it. I predict disaster, but who knows?

I recall reading about a number of economies that crashed after they pegged their currency to ours. Can't recall why. Something about borrowing and/or selling assets to keep that peg in place. Soros was probably involved. He's the vulture capitalist of currency transactions; or used to be. Hard to understand why cons don't like him.

Argentina and Milei are finding out like the US did that there is more to governing than electing a quirky outsider with bad hair who likes to talk tough. Actual problem solving and governing is hard. Let's see who he starts to blame for problems, and if he starts putting people in prison.

Lol I know the guy is doing a good job because American leftists are constantly throwing temper tantrums about him. He's already succeeded in shutting down many useless government agencies. Generally a good thing imo.

Any chance you can get transferred to a bot farm in Argentina, Ryan?

How can anyone say the current governance in Argentina is good? It also shows how hard it is to put austerity packages in place. Medicare is already paying below market value, thus not much to cut there. Good luck cutting Social Security will have similar results to Argentina. It’s a much tougher dilemma to fix than merely saying I want to fix it.

So your argument is that bigger states with more relaxed immigration are entitled and even expected to be more corrupt. Does that fit reality?
No. My argument is you can’t separate the success Scandinavian countries have had with democratic socialism from the fact they don’t let their country be overrun by illegals who water down the services received. I’ve posted articles about this many times.

From what I've read, Sweden has its own immigration problems. And most of Europe has been more welcoming of immigrants than we have. But I might be wrong about that. I do appreciate that you aren't using the homogeneity trope, though.

I guess we’ll have to see how this plays out, I have an open mind, but judging by what has gone on here in the US, if a new leader has come in and doesn’t want to put up with the bullshit leftist, shut down traffic and society while destroying capitalism all in the name of a “protest’ I’m 100% for shutting it down. This doesn’t mean that I’m against protesting. Peaceful protest and gatherings are fine. The problem is most leftists aren’t grown up enough to actually do this.

Speaking of that, you leftists on here need to grow up. Every time someone is a right wing leader, doesn’t mean that they’re an authoritarian or a Nazi or a fascist. Your side, uses words, like genocide, racism, fascism, and authoritarianism so often that they’re almost meaningless anymore. So forgive me if I really don’t care that you don’t like the guy

If things play out where It seems that he is taking an overly heavy hand, and I will reassess my opinions.

Good. I have no issue with any of those things.

Here’s the bottom line. In this may be true an Argentina, I’m not certain as I don’t have any real insight there, but in America, there’s a large percentage of people who are flat out sick of the liberal bullshit. And you know what they are such malcontents, that if they don’t get their way, they throw violent temper tantrums.

People are tired of inflation, they’re tired of unfettered, illegal immigration, they are tired of all the politically correct bullshit, tired of DEI, tired of weakness of the world stage etc I could go on and on.

Sanity needs to return.

I can see why the left hates him so much lol he stands for common sense which is in direct conflict with leftist worldviews

When people become accustomed to handouts, they typically don't like it when the handouts start getting taken away. It takes a lot pf courage to stop being an enabler, personally, or as a government leader.

Are you trying to justify his actions?

Here's the full Twitter list:

-Eliminated 12 out of 21 cabinet posts
-Firing 5,000 government employees
-Ending 380k government regulations
-Banned woke language in the military
-Bill to affirm the right to self-defense
-Bill to legalize homeschooling of kids
-Proposal to punish all riot organizers
-Future welfare cuts for road-blocking
-Legalized paying contracts in bitcoin
-Privatization of state-run companies
-Opened up the Argentina oil industry

I have no idea how accurate that list is but some of those are interesting, some head-scratching.

For example, if they eliminated 380K government regulations, I wonder how many are left? How many of those eliminated are serious regulations like food safety, environmental protections, and such?

It's sort of interesting that they ban woke language, propose to punish protestors, and aim to kick road-blockers off welfare. Yet some here say the new government isn't necessarily in the right swing fascist mold.

Needless to say privatizing everything in sight is standard practice for corporate/plutocratic-controlled governments from our Republicans to Putin. It's basically a clever way to say we're having a fire sale of public assets so our rich backers can make a killing.

Elevating the status of Bitcoin is a great way to mask corruption and crime in government and elsewhere.

Was self defense banned in Argentina? I'm guessing not. So a bill to affirm that right is just BS.

A bill to legalize home schooling could be good or bad. Hard to imagine it would be better than putting resources in public schools, but I know nothing about Argentina's schools. Maybe it's just a backdoor way of saying they're giving up on public education. That would fit with extreme libertarianism, but is unlikely to improve society.

I wonder which 12 out of 21 Cabinets were eliminated. I could probably google it, but don't really care. Then again, Trump has made noises like that, so it might be an interesting preview.

You would have a point if he was ending handouts, and not enacting authoritarian powers and weird culture war stuff.

It’s just math. Do you want “bang for your tax buck”? The fewer you need to support with it the bigger the bang. And Denmark has had both the strictest immigration laws and the highest “good life” ratings for a while now. And it’s not a coincidence. They are 100% related.

A proposed law says anyone that disturbs traffic flow during a protest could face up to three and a half years in jail and any protest or political rallies must be notified to the ministry of security.
Just do like Trudeau with the trucker protest and declare a state of emergency.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he's invoking the Emergencies Act for the first time in Canada's history to give the federal government temporary powers to handle ongoing blockades and protests against pandemic restrictions.

"It is now clear that there are serious challenges to law enforcement's ability to effectively enforce the law," Trudeau told a news conference Monday afternoon.

"It is no longer a lawful protest at a disagreement over government policy. It is now an illegal occupation. It's time for people to go home."

I like New Zealand's approach. "If you can swim here, you can stay here."
