The Arizona Bowl is December 29, 7:30 p.m. This bowl game pits 2 teams from the Mountain West Conference: Nevada (6-6) vs. Colorado State (7-5).

Bottom line: this is just a Mountain West Conference game that won't be nationally televised.

The game is online only; if you go to the bowl's website, they instruct you to go www.CampusInsiders.com (a sponsor, and only way to watch the game) to watch the game live

When I did a search on what the bowl pay out was to each team, all I found was that the payout was "To Be Announced."

Yes, I, like most of you, believe that 40 bowls and 80 teams playing in bowls are way too many.

The bowl system is a complete joke. Corporate sponsors... And our "everyone should get a ribbon" society now reward teams for going 6-6... Or even 5-7.

It's why the majority of bowl games have half empty stadiums. Gone are the days where it meant something to get to a bowl game.

Simply way too many games now.

No.

it used to be that just one team from the B1G would go to a bowl game; it was Rose Bowl or bust

I'm not against the plethora of bowl games like some people, but it's completely retarded to have two MWC teams in the same game. This game would have been perfect for a 5-7 team needed to fill a bowl spot (i.e. Minnesota or Nebraska). Just don't understand it.

Let me see you glass mister!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it really half empty?

agreed

The problem is that having this bowl will actually make the Mountain West schools lose money by traveling to them. My opinion is if the schools don't break even for a bowl with travel costs, then they shouldn't exist.

this just seems like a complete disaster. where will the revenues come from? ticket sales are non existent. there is no TV deal so what company will want to advertise?

no wonder the team payouts are not being made known; there might not be any. revenues might now cover expenses.

i think this bowl will lose a ton of money and probably won't be back next year.

Americans like redundancy. Just take a look of the plethora of threads complaining about the plethora of bowls.:p

Glass half full says this phenomena benefits Iowa because we will NEVER MISS A BOWL GAME with 40 bowls per season.:D

Who doesn't want to see Iowa in an extra game every year?

Why is the Mountain West commissioner not making a bigger deal out of this? You got two teams in your conference making a bowl, then they have to play each other, and now it has no viewers.

Imagine if Iowa made a bowl, and had to play purdue, and you could only watch it on big ten 2 go.

I'd be mad.

He is.

Since the overabundance of bowls doesn't affect my life one way or the other, I really don't care how many bowls there are. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't figure out why anybody else would care either. If a team wants to accept an invitation to one of these crappy bowls, whether it's to get more practice time or to reward the team for the hard work they put in during the season, good for them. I just hope the Hawkeyes never get invited to one of them.

There's as many bowl games because that's how many corporations have lined up knocking on the NCAA's door wanting to sponsor one. What surprises me is no TV, usually that would go hand in hand with a corporate sponsor. Or is there just regional TV? Who is sponsoring this bowl?

Bowls don't have the same meaning as they once did. That is fine with me. I would be fine with all power 5 teams going to bowl games. B1G 14 vs. SEC 14. Let's see how conferences match up top to bottom. More football the better.

I like more college football. So I like more bowl games. I watch parts of a number of them.

If you hate additional college football, just don't watch. Pretty simple.

This one isn't on TV, so it doesn't sound like many will be watching. Maybe the 6,000 that are in attendance.

The American Sports Television Network http://americansportsnet.com/schedule/ picked up this game. Many of the Comcast regional sports networks will pick up their games and televise them if there's no conflicts. If you have Dish or Directv, Comcast will put these games on the "ALT" channels.

That being said, there's too many bowls, no doubt. In fact, there was supposed to have been a bowl game in Austin, Texas this year, and they held off until next year to start. ESPN alone has created about 10 of these bowls. The problem this has created in my opinion that with so many of them the more established non-CFP bowls (Liberty, Holiday, etc.) are losing their identity in the process. But they say there's more bowl games waiting in the wings. What direction do they go? More games or trim the fat?

Another problem is some of these bowls have such low payouts schools are losing money. Quite a few are only paying out $500k or so per team. The NCAA bowl sanctioning committee needs to tell these bowls that if you wish to stay in the game the minimum payout per team is $1 million. That would either make it beneficial for the schools to participate, or it'll essentially weed-out the low-level bowls.

Exactly.
What's the harm? The schools don't have to go. The sponsors don't have to sponsor them. TV doesn't have to televise the games. No one's forcing anyone to attend.
Most importantly, it's a way to the players (remember them?) to have a good time. If you ask me everyone gets what they want. If not they wouldn't keep adding more bowls!

Conference teams playing each other isn't ideal, but at least the two teams didn't play during the regular season.
Heck, given we're going to go five or six years without playing Ohio State, it might have been pretty cool to play them in a bowl this year.

Can't we reach a compromise?

Keep the number of games the same, but call the bottom half "Extra Meaningless Games" instead of bowl games.

If you aren't in the top half of the FBS...you shouldn't be going to a bowl game.
If you didn't win at least half of your regular season games...you shouldn't be going to a bowl game.

Football good. Football between two crappy teams who didn't even finish in the top half of the FBS, or are in the same conference, or are under .500 for the season...that's not good football.

Maybe we should send high school teams to bowls....or at least D3 teams. How about the University of dubuque vs ...whomever in the nobody gives a shit bowl.

I get the more football isn't a bad thing concept, but people really want to watch two crappy teams duke it out on a Tuesday afternoon in the 3rd week of December?

I'll tell you a true story about a friend of mine who got fired a decade ago. He and a buddy were at lunch in the corporate cafeteria. They were talking about a movie star who just had signed a horrible pre-nup (insert gossip-girl joke here). Anyway, a female employee was on the other side of the cafeteria watching television on a wall screen TV. She turned down the volume and she moved herself closer to these men to eavesdrop. I was sitting with others that day in the cafeteria and couldn't hear a word they said cuz they were talking at a reduced volume.

The next day (yes she waited 24 hours) she complained to HR about sexual harassment (for what you ask? Because they made fun of a male movie star for offering a one-sided pre-nup). Anyway, one guy was fired and one was reprimanded. These guys had wives and children and good jobs so this was the worst thing I had ever witnessed in the workplace.

The moral to the story? Even tho this wasn't the first time I saw behavior like this from a non-aggrieved party. It was an ugly reminder that our society is filled with people who enjoy making a mountain out of a molehill. Which is how I would characterize 80% of all sports-related complaining.

Oh, and the woman who was an aspiring professional victim? Yep, she was promoted into management. Let's just say "merit" wasn't involved. Now please remember to restrain yourself from profanity if you choose to craft a snarky reply.

What were the terms of the pre-nup?

This is the cancerous side of society. The people who sacrifice others in order to advance. They become managers. These types of managers rise to the highest levels in the corporate ladder (execs of "too big to fail" corps). But anyway, this would be textbook material for all the unethical aspiring managers.

Who wouldn't be pumped about a mountain west rematch between two mediocre teams?
I'm completely shocked that people aren't clamoring for tickets.<sarcasm font off>

There was a time when Bowl Games were a REWARD for a season well done. They all work hard and face the same type of obstacles. Those that overcome those obstacles are rewarded, much like real life. There is nothing about a 6-6 or 5-7 season that says well done, here's your reward. Stay home and work to get better when the next season rolls around.

The world isn't going to end either way, but as far as I'm concerned they're setting a precedent that says, just show up and you'll be rewarded. That's a piss poor way to go thru life, IMO of course. Football teams aren't subject to the Birth Lottery world, the actually have to earn it, or did at one time.

It's just free enterprise, not political correctness. If cities have a chance to make a little money with some crappy bowl they will do it. If they lose money, they will stop having them. I'm pretty sure the NCAA isn't mandating a certain number of bowls and forcing cities to have bowl games and networks to broadcast them.

I hope the Networks are paying those cities then, cause they'll have a hell of time getting it out of the NCAA's hands I presume. As for the P.C. crowd, you may be correct, but it reminds of this....

"Why should anyone aspire to be a common man, an average man? Do you realize what it means to be average? That means you're the best of the lousiest...and the lousiest of the best. Now, if we demand more and more for producing less and less, while the have-not nations encourage, and inspire, and indeed require hard work and maximum effort - if we deify the common man while they encourage and reward the uncommon ones - well, the end result of such a lopsided race as that is too obvious to require elaboration." - the late, great Paul Harvey

It's obvious for some anyway.
