Agreed. That Kamala even came as close as she did is a testament to the "beatability" of Trump. The only thing that the Dem's could have done even worse strategically would have been to let Biden stand as the 2024 POTUS candidate. I think it is clear that KH made this a much closer race than it would have otherwise been, due in very large part to her simply, "not being Trump" and being in possession of her faculties.
But that being said...she was an incredibly weak candidate and had no business as the Dem standard bearer in a POTUS election. Lest you doubt that, please review her actual performance as a candidate for the Dem nomination in 2019/20...she didn't move the needle at all...with fellow Dems.
But the exceedingly dangerous "strategy" of trying run it back in 2024 with a badly flagging Biden went awry and there weren't a lot of good choices...at that stage. The real Dem F-up(s) were forging ahead with the "Hiden Biden" gag and then not having a good fall back plan if that jig came up, which it did.
Additionally, imagine if the Dems had selected a good candidate for VP in 2020...they almost for sure would have won the 2024 election yesterday, even assuming the Biden dropout, etc. I am not pleased with the outcome of the POTUS election, but it is also true that I would not have been pleased had KH won. (Can we please get some viable, decent candidates for the next POTUS run off?) But the Dems have only themselves to blame here.
I don't agree with him that this was a mandate, it was two poor candidates and one of them had to win deal IMO. But I otherwise totally agree with him. Normal people are sick of the crap, they just want to live their lives, raise their families, etc, and the sooner the Dems reconnect with the "normies" the sooner they will start winning more elections.

Little Monday Morning QB there. Yes, the Ds ignored the signs on the regular guy complaining about cost of living. Ds at the top were thinking the economy was getting better each week and that they had to have rates up long as they did to get inflation to subside. So, it was a double edges sword... they should have been saying yes the costs are high and we hear you, but we have to do this for a period of time to keep the economy chugging. I think this would have helped some understand things... not most but some. The whole garbage and being talked down to is just dumb... because its the same thing Rs have been doing to Ds. To me... this was purely the regular guy tired of the higher costs of living regardless if they are making more now... it doesn't cover the cost increases and they were sick of it and wanted to give someone outside of the current admin the chance to fix this... Trump was the alternative choice no matter what dark and hateful things he's said... if he can help their daily living he will be successful. If he doesn't midterms and next presidential election cycle will see it flip back to Ds.

One person’s craziness (Trump) can be overcome by a system of government that has checks and balances in place to ensure that a single person can’t tip over the apple cart.
But millions of people who are crazy, who can only be kept in check by themselves (and they won’t because they don’t live in reality), is infinitely more dangerous and divisive.

Dems lost 15 million voters by trying to run a moderate / center right. And you are arguing for them to keep up the same strategy it's pretty clear which one of us is out of touch.
