Ava Jones Medically Retired on June 7, 2024. Plus Other Updates on Her & Her Family

I understand Ava can never play again because of the medical hardship scholarship. However, does this mean she still can’t be included in team activities and be an honorary member (even if it’s officially as a manager) of the team? Last year you saw videos of her with some teammates like KM. Hearing that she is struggling to make friends and is depressed is heart breaking. I would hope Jan and the rest of the girls would still “take care of her” while she’s at Iowa.

I hope so as well. It sounds like she's really struggling in the class room which we'd never heard before. I'm not sure what they can do with that. Just another sad chapter in all of this....

Can you imagine going to class and then not remembering anything? And its unclear if this will ever improve.

The case is going to the jury. The prosecutors reminded the jury that Ava has a permanent brain injury and a changed personality.

Michael Hurley faces up to 70 years in prison with this conviction. It is not clear when he will be sentenced.

The story, along with video:

Thanks for posting these updates. Nothing can fix this for the Jones’. And nothing can fix that POS who did this. End him.

Agreed. And then harvest his organs so that people who need a transplant & who actually deserve to be breathing air can live.

After all, this POS ended Trey's (Ava's dad) life, where his organs were harvested. Remember when the 2 sons were there with him before they took Trey to surgery?

This whole thing is gut wrenching.

Michael Hurley didn't kill Ava but he killed the person that she used to be. Ava was very smart, had a great personality, had many friends and was a D1 basketball player. Now she is none of these.

Indiana man sentenced for crashing into Kansas family in downtown Louisville 2 years ago

Dec 13, 2024

A jury in October recommended a 75-year prison sentence for Michael Hurley on charges of murder, assault and DUI; however, Judge Annie O'Connell said under state law, the maximum sentence Hurley can serve is 70 years.

Prosecutors said Hurley drove his vehicle with blood levels showing he had five times above what is considered a lethal dose of fentanyl in his system.

Hurley didn't stop for 100 feet after he hit the Jones family with his car at 2nd and Market streets on July 5, 2022, killing Trey Jones, who had brought his family to Louisville for their 17-year-old daughter's basketball tournament.

Hurley, from Lexington, Ind., was on probation for drug-related offenses at the time of his crash. A blood test found a deadly amount of fentanyl in his system.

nice to see Ava at the game.

i'm going to say something pretty controversial and i don't know what happened after this clip and i don't know their relationships, but the fact that km and gm didn't say more than 'how are you buddy' to Ava and then walked away, breaks my heart and i feel is pretty shitty.

i think about that girl and what was taken from her quite often and i'm not sure what i would say to her if i ever met her, but it would damn sure be more than 'hey', then split. especially if i was a teammate.

Not controversial, and I think we all most likley know where you're coming from/getting at. I'm guessing the gals needed to be in their seats/spots for the ceremony. Based on all the fans standing and applauding (not 'cheering') it looks like it's either before the game or just after.
My guess is anyone in this "room" would take all the time we possibly could to talk with this remarkable young woman so I get you're point there. Not knowing GM or KM personally, but everything we've seen of them indicates they are fantastic people who wouldn't brush a teammate aside unless they had to be somewhere.

Ava made some YouTube videos last year and among them was Gabbie and Kate in apartment with her playing games.

5th and 6th year seniors took time in bond with the freshman away from the rest of the team.

Phucker should be dead by now for what he did.
A slowww death

Can you imagine being a juror and having to watch the full video of the crash?

Notice how the car is in the damn cross walk.

Correct me if I am wrong but the dad (Trey) appeared to have his back to what was coming; Ava's mom is in the middle; Ava appears to be on the right. Not sure where the young boy was at the time of impact (he suffered minor injuries).

Kate Martin was one of the closest to Ava last year. Regularly being in her blogs and trying to encourage her. A singular hug and hi seems ok, my guess is Ava greatly appreciated it.
