There is more to life than playing basketball. I wish her the very best in her future and that in a few years we will hear about what an amazing success that she has made of her life.
Opioids (hydrocodone) according to a quick search. So definitely impaired driving. Hit them while they were on the sidewalk. It was a drunk driver who hit them right? A lot of posters condone that behavior on the OT board.
Drugs, not booze, not like it matters.....It was a drunk driver who hit them right? A lot of posters condone that behavior on the OT board.
With the TBI she suffered its just too great a risk for her to participate in a contact sport, (which basketball certainly is)......Like you I was really hoping she could make it back no matter how long the odds, I do think the potential for further injury likely played a part in the decision, Leg injury, Concussion etc. is serious for any player let alone someone who has gone through what Ava has.
fentanyl I believe which is the scourge nationally now...I believe its 10x more potent then morphine...Opioids (hydrocodone) according to a quick search. So definitely impaired driving. Hit them while they were on the sidewalk.
Painful to listen to this testimony from such an upbeat young woman.Teen basketball star testifies she struggles to walk now after Louisville man ran over her family
Tears streamed down 19-year-old Ava Jones’ face as she told a jury that while she was once on scholarship to play basketball for Iowa, she can no longer shoot awww.wdrb.com

My GUESS is that because he killed someone while committing another felony (DWI) that it gets nudged up to murder. I would have to believe it's 2nd degree or a special vehicular designation since he didn't legally form intent for first degree, but again, that's my GUESS.Does Kentucky define murder differently? Or why is it that he’s being charged with murder vs manslaughter in what I thought was a textbook case of manslaughter?
I agree 100% the SOB needs to spend the rest of his life in prison, after they shatter his knees with a baseball bat.Just take the SOB out back and put a bullet in his skull.
"I was tired so it wasn't murder" is a crock of crap. You. Did. This. There is absolutely NO reason this person should ever see the outside of a prison (actually draw breath) ever again. You made a decision--whichever you want to claim it is--that ended a life and destroyed many, many others. You forfeit.
Below is Kentucky murder statute. I'm sure he's charged under part (b). This guy was on probation in Indiana for a drug offense. I'm guessing the jury will convict on murder for Ava's Dad. Then there are serious felony charges for what he did to Ava and her mom. Those should all run consecutive.Does Kentucky define murder differently? Or why is it that he’s being charged with murder vs manslaughter in what I thought was a textbook case of manslaughter?
A just verdict....so sad all the way around.
No. He needs to pay for his mistake, but nobody should suffer.Good news! The POS needs to suffer.
It was much more than a "mistake" and I believe he needs to physically suffer!!!No. He needs to pay for his mistake, but nobody should suffer.
So the Jones family will suffer forever - but the murderer drugged up punk - should not. OKNo. He needs to pay for his mistake, but nobody should suffer.

Yeah that would be okay.A bullet to the head would be quick and he wouldn't suffer. I'll settle for that.
So take your punishment with a smile? You're not making a good or valid pointNobody should suffer.
The goal of punishment should be purposeful removal from society with the goal of rehabilitation. Inflicting additional pain and trauma upon already violent and/or damaged people is counterproductive. The phrase 'playing with fire' comes to mind.So take your punishment with a smile? I thought the goal was removal from society to keep the rest of us safer. If they can rehab, so much the better .The goal of punishment should be purposeful removal from society with the goal of rehabilitation. It is, but that is automatically achieved when you remove them from society, so not really a goal at that point.I thought the goal was removal from society to keep the rest of us safer. If they can rehab, so much the better .
