Avg age of this board?

any ideas? trying to rationalize some of the ridiculous overreactions here
I am 26 but I think age has little to do with over reactions. The Iowa fan base has always been this way after a loss, some people just invest way too much into how Iowa does on the football field. Iowa brought back a lot of talent but you never know what effect the talent that graduated will have.

Calling this team terrible and talking down all the players is just a sign of a very small person.

I have seen better meltdowns in response to the ND State loss than what my 3 yr old grandson has.

I'm in my 40s.

Old enough and wise enough to realize a few things.

1. Don't schedule FCS teams...ever. It's too hard to get 18-22 years old motivated to play a team that they view as a lessor opponent. No amount of lecturing or attention grabbing stunts will ever change that.

2. Stubbornness and arrogance is often a man's downfall. Many of KF's losses against teams that he was heavily favored to beat, fall into this very category.

3. Message boards are full of emotion. Add in anonymity and you have a result that you shouldn't take all too seriously.

Honestly, Iowa's fan base is no different from any others. Go to any message board for any sports team ... and you will see the exact same thing ... Happy when we win. Calling for heads to roll when we lose. Sadly, it's the world we live in now. With social media and smartphones, everyone has a voice (good or bad). It's our "what have you done for me lately" culture. I was at the game. And I was livid at what I watched unfold on the field ... The difference is at the end of the day ... it's a game. We lost. You move on. I was steaming mad during the game ... So yes, fans can be upset ... but some fans take it to another level ...

Where does the OP think posters should voice their displeasure at how poorly this game was coached, if not on a hawkeye forum? The coach doesn't answer tough questions, most in the media don't ask him tough questions and many fans don't have a voice.

Also, do you think it is a reasonable that a FCS school with 22 less scholarships goes into a top 20 teams stadium and bullies them around? Especially when you're supposed to have one of the best coaches in college footbal...

30. I wasn't on the boards over the weekend but everything seems pretty tame as far as meltdowns go following the NDSU loss. I feel more of a disbelief that it happened rather than melting down that it happened.

I'm 63,retired,hawkeye for life just don't understand some of the coaches philosophy sometimes. We all know what happened in 2014 and felt coaches were just as much the blame for some of our losses just like last Saturday.

And I'm old enough to have watched the real Vince Brookins play.
Same here and he was one of the most "put together" players to have ever worn a Hawkeye uniform.Remember the 1st time I saw him it was holy shit moment.

There may be some posts that are over the top. However, isn't this board for people to come to give their thoughts on all things Iowa Football? Many Iowa fans have low expectations......and so does the U of I. I am a huge Hawk fan who lives in the middle of Nebraska country and I see Nebraska's expectations year after year.......and the University's. It's probably why Iowa has 1 split NC almost 60 years ago and Nebraska has 5 and is a top 10 program of all time. Granted, it has been a while since they won one......But, I still see a sold out stadium every single week full of red and national championship expectations. So, that is what I am going to expect and hope for year after year as a Hawk fan.......And, if they lose to an FCS team that they should beat in every phase, I am going to be pissed......It's ok to expect national success and a national championship, even as an Iowa fan........

I'm 64. Probably makes me the oldest or one of the oldest guys on the board. To you younger guys; enjoy your youth while you have it because in the blink of an eye it will be gone.

Nope, you're not the oldest. I'm 77. But that may not count, since I'm female. :) And I watched Don Nelson play for Iowa in the old Fieldhouse. Great memories!

I saw Chuck Darling play. I was only 6 and I mostly remember wondering how many bales of hay you could stack in the Field House.

Besides complaining on a message board what else did fans do to take it to another level ? I don't recall reading about cars being turned over in the streets and building being set ablaze. Numerous posters complain about other posters taking things too serious. Perhaps you shouldn't take the complains so serious. If someone calls out for KF to be fired who cares it's not like it hasn't happened before. This maybe only one loss but all losses are not equal. This one was bad so let the people complain next Saturday is coming soon and it will settle down.

I understand sharing frustration etc., on message boards. Agree 100% it's a place for fans to connect and share their perspective. I'm simply referring to some fans who - after one bad game - start calling out players and questioning Kirk's contract extension, etc. The loss sucked. Absolutely. But it's not the end of the world and we still have many games left to play.

67. But I can't believe it. When I was selling popcorn at the Glass Bowl when My Dad was head coach, it seems like ten or fifteen years ago, not 60... My first Hawk game was in 1969, and I've been a die-hard fan ever since, around the world. But the Hawks seem like both forever and just a minute ago. My brothers' and my college football and high school coaching careers seem like two weeks ago - and they all ended 40 years ago.

I was at the game Saturday - but I didn't get angry- it just hurts. Hurts me, hurts for us, hurts for the players, hurts for the coaches, hurts for their families; but strangely enough, mixed in with all that pain is a little quiet joy for those North Dakota kids, coaches and families, and what they put in their collective memories and hearts forever.

Maybe age matters.

I'm one year North of half-a-hundred.

And based on the responses so far, if they can be believed, and if they are representative of the entire board (probably not), the answer to the OP so far appears to be somewhere around 52.
