The Illini beat Minnesota by 31 points. It was never close. No Illinois players played more than 24 minutes in this blow out other than Ayo and Frazier who both played 32 minutes. I did not watch the game so I'm guessing here, but it looks like Ayo was played long enough to get those 10 rebounds and 10 assists to achieve a triple double in a meaningless game that was best described as being a pick up game in the second half. Thankfully, Fran has more integrity than Illinois has.

Minnesota played the worst game I've seen them play all season,.. total crap.
Well they lost their best defender for the rest of the regular season in Gabe Kalsher (sp?) and Robbins isn't praticing at all due to some ailment, so those things contributed somewhat I'm sure.

They're a different team at Home clearly, but Illinois boatraced them both times, and Iowa obviously should have swept them too.

Disclaimer...I was lifting so watching at the gym with no audio. Ayo was in the game with under 5 minutes to go and I was wondering what was going on since they were up by 30. Then Ayo finally comes out with just under two minutes to go after he gets his triple double. So yes, interesting move by Underwood risking your best player in garbage time...

GMAFB, OP. His second triple double out of what is now four in program history, and you went “Get off my lawn!” on the fact that Underwood gave him that shot?

Get a life, lol.
Yes. Yes I did because in my book you play and coach with integrity. Illinois doesn't have any of that and they never have. The box score says it all. It wasn't that he played just a few more minutes against an undermanned thoroughly humiliated opponent who the illini were jeering during this blowout. He clearly played many more minutes in a ''pick up game'' debacle until he barely got his 10th rebound and assist. It was almost like when Ricky Davis purposely missed a bunny so he could get his own rebound to pad his stats. But, this was worse. The illini must be so proud.

Big difference getting a triple double in a 4 point win, or even a loss, versus being left on the court in a blowout. Lipstick on a pig sort of thing.

Would have been a shame if Ayo rolled an ankle while padding his stats...
I'm guessing Underwood's press conference would have taken on a whole different vibe! LOL!

Didn't happen though, so great job Coach...........or something.

You are on another team’s message board telling others to get a life.

But you don’t deny that he kept him in to pad stats in a game that was never close? That’s cool I suppose but it makes it funnier when Illinois fans react like the Minnesota game is proof he should be PoY. Minnesota completely gave up meanwhile Ayo is in there just trying to play for stats. Anyone who watched the game could see what was happening and it wasn’t a good look. I was worried he could get hurt in a game that was already over and it would be a blow to the B1G come tourney time. It was stupid.

Underwood was informed by his assist coaches that Ayo was a rebound away from his second triple double. Underwood told pitino about it and said in his presser that he gave him an extra minute to get it.

I honestly see no issue whatsoever with what was done. People talking about “integrity” are out of their goddamn minds. WTF are you idiots even talking about? Pitino was fine with it but Iowa fans are outraged. lol. smh. Talk about “not a good look.”

The people wishing injury on a player are just plain old malignant assholes. Sick stuff.

Seek help. Jeezus. I thought I hated Illinois but some of you people are absurd.

What does integrity have to do with this exactly?

If true, it is not much different than was Ricky Davis did.

The thing about Ayo is the Illini have to tailor their Ayo favorable combination of stats with arbitrary ppg, assists, and rebounds to show he is POY material. Hopefully the cheating Illini flop on their remaining schedule. I don't like Ayo because he sticks his lower lip out a lot and so does my wife.

BTW, CMAC is >>> Ayo based on this board's key metric of Assist to TO. Fredrick deserves POY for his assist to TO number.

The excuse they're making is for B10 POY.

They secretly know they can't fight him for NPOY.

Garza is the only player in a major conference that leads the NCAA in multiple statistical categories (7 to be exact), and is in the Top 10 in several more categories as well.

Drew Timme of Gonzaga is another player that some are trying to push over Garza for POY, but if you take the categories that both Timme and Dosunmu are on combined, it would still be less than the number of Top 10 lists Garza is on........

Also, only two other players in the Big Ten currently lead the nation in any one category (C.J. Walker, OSU- FT%; Trevion Williams, Pur- Usage %).

But we're gonna make an argument because Ayo is flashier, plays at guard instead of the big slow center position, and is going to the NBA..................

Fart noises.

Iowans in general love assist-to-turnover ratio. Seems to be the most important stat in all of basketball. Clone fans wouldn't shut up about it for Morris, now Hawks fans love to spout it.

do you think Garza would have been in the game with 8 minutes left in that game when they were up over 30?
Why do you care? lol. Seriously. Why?

Not a peep of any kind of complaint from Minnesota press let alone nationally but Iowa fans yammer about “integrity”. Lol.

Stupid.

Just stop, ffs.

Yes. Yes I did because in my book you play and coach with integrity.

I think robbing a kid of getting the opportunity of a triple double if he wants to get it is bad. Minnesota is a conference team. If they want to stop somebody from scoring play better. He only played 32 minutes as well. Happy for Ayo and I commend the staff for letting him achieve it.

I get that you want to defend Illinois. That’s fine. I live in Minnesota. I can tell you there are at least some people that care. However their press and fans have a bigger issue to talk about: what comes next for their HC position.

I didn’t start this topic but I think I have every right to respond to it as you do, right?

Off topic a little but when he was in the NBA didn’t Ricky Davis once throw a ball up against his own backboard with every one else on the other side of the court so he could get a rebound for a double double

It was a triple double. He was quickly hammered by Deshawn Stevenson and per NBA rules he wasn't credited with a rebound. For the record that was in the final seconds of the game which I think makes it an entirely different situation.

Now you are just lying. You are saying that after Ayo had played the same total as the other starters at 24 minutes he had 9 rebounds and 10 assists? He then kept playing for another 7 minutes and had no additional rebounds or additional assists and then, and only then, did Underwood inform Pitino that he was going to leave Ayo in another minute to see if he could get that last rebound for a triple double.

Again, if you have to ask what this has to do with integrity, you don't have any.

Chalk me up as somebody with no integrity. No problem with it at all.

Just for the record unless something drastic happens Garza is easily the Big 10 POY.

Last thing: Ayo made his last shot with 8:30 left in the game. He got his last rebound with 2:14 left. Clearly he was in there to get the rebounds.

Do people on this board complain when Austin Ash hoists up half court shots during garbage time? Not usually! I honestly don't think ANY B1G coach would intentionally embarrass another team or another coach. What Underwood did was harmless.

The kid is a baller and I applaud the coach for leaving him in to get a rare and celebratory triple double.

I find it somewhat shameful that some fans are actually pissy about it.
No one is being pissy, Nancy. It is what it is and I'm just pointing out the reality of the situation and some others agree to some extent. There is a reason that they say sportsmanship when they are talking about sports. Having a discussion is not something shameful. You filling your diaper and walking around like that all day is shameful and people want you to stop it.

You would probably think that since you also thought that your stupid analogy was pertinent.
