Mel Tucker is fighting to be paid his $79M buyout.

We should all be happy that I'm not making the decision when it comes to hiring a coach. Matt Ruhle is guaranteed $62 million before doing anything at Nebby. There is no way I could justify that.

I would like to see the Iowa legislature pass a law that limits any coach to a buyout of two years of salary. The idea of very long-term contracts with huge buyouts is crazy. Bart was afraid that Ferentz might leave. There were other coaches that would jump at the chance to coach at Iowa.

Yes, putting the state universities in Iowa at a disadvantage against every state in the union when hiring coaches is a great idea.

Those coaches jumping at the opportunity to coach at Iowa would be drier than the Raccoon River if the Iowa legislature attempted to do that.

Yes, the money is ridiculous. I think it’s insane too, but if you’re going to do that, then just drop to FCS.

It's not a legislative issue. It's a financial management issue and 2 years isn't long enough. There was no logical explanation behind the length of Kirk's contract. He wasn't going anywhere and recruits only care about the next 4-5 years. Giving Kirk what amounted to a 9 year contract was as dumb as it gets. That's on Barta and the administration for awarding it.

Matt Rhule in his first year with a $62m buyout is AMAZING.
What's even more amazing is that he'll probably get an extension in year 3 and he'll be paid in year 6 another $30 million to never coach there again. It's the Nebraska way.
