I thought he showed a lot of heart today. While it was unraveling around him he just continued to attack and play hard. He made a number of plays just by continuing to work. Not everything he did was perfect but I respect that kind of effort and willingness under a pressure situation. He was not scared like some of the other guys once we hit adversity. I can get behind that effort even if he lacks some ability in some areas.

With walkons like Baer, just imagine the sort of talent Iowa could obtain if they offered some kids some scholarship money to play.

This +10000000000. When things aren't going your way you have to give 100% effort to make up for it and the kid played his arse off the entire game. I'm looking forward to watching him develop the next 3 years. I think he has a chance to be a very solid player for us. After he add's some muscle and works on his jumper he could become an all conference player by his senior year.

Showed a thousand times more heart than ute, ute waited till there was only a few minutes left to show any desire at all.

Excellent game. Thank goodness we have him.

How did we not go after Carlson from UNI? He is from Waverly.

It's unfortunate that you can't put Baer's heart and moxy into Uthoff.

Baer could be a really good 6th man for us for the next three years. He just lacks the talent to be a next level player but I have the utmost respect for his effort. Hopefully, the younger players look to him for how they should play.

Great post, OP and others. Nicholas Baer is the poster boy for what Iowa should be and so often isn't. He has the heart and passion that this team, as a whole, so clearly lacked. And the kid has some skills. Love watching guys like Nicholas, a true Iowan, play with an attitude and enthusiasm. He knows how to compete. We need a roster full of such young men. Maybe next year...
