Banning X on Rivals message boards

Amazing. The mod of a site that gets an embarrassing amount of traffic on its pay board is in the OT board picking JR High my dad is tougher than your dad fights. Lol.
He got a shoutout, and also gave a thoughtful response about the changing landscape of social media.

I agree but how often does THAT happen, actually debating issues. 99.9999999% every thread devolves in to a name calling pissing match.

I am against banning X and other social media platforms here. As I said, if @ping72 doesn't like the crap that's thrown on the wall, he can move along to another site. Or as Seminoleed said, he can put people on ignore. Bacon doesn't need heavy handed censoring, let alone moderation.
No moderation eh? Is this your first day on the interwebz noob?

Nobody said anything about heavy handed moderation. But, this place is like a beautiful garden, you gotta pull the weeds or they will takeover. With the amount of ai driven bots and whatnot it's important to stay on top of things.

Almost every subreddit I’m in has now banned links to X, along with many companies and organizations.

@Adam Jacobi can we ban them here to show we won’t stand for Nazis and hate? Or is that a Rivals parent decision—and if so, who do we contact to urge them to do the right thing?

So, you want censorship? That communism. 🥴

There's been no discussion on the network about it one way or the other — certainly we still need it as a multimedia and news source on the sports side unless/until there's a working alternative — but I'll talk with the rest of the staff about whether it makes sense for OT.

This might be the second most beta post I've ever seen on this board, slighlty behind the OPs.

250 years after the revolution and we have people scared of freedom of speech and clamoring for censorship.
The most interesting thing is that Ping already has the power to censor everyone on this site he doesn’t want to see a post from, but that’s not enough.
He appeals to authority to try and keep other people from seeing things he doesn’t want them to see.
A weeping statute of liberty would be more fitting.
God, when you put it that way I almost have to ban X now. Cry harder, loser.

Personally, I'm not a big proponent of censorship, as long as my right as a parent to protect my children isn't removed—i.e., as long as I can change the channel, not use the app, etc. However, something our forefathers (250 years ago) couldn't foresee was the advent of technology. AI and foreign malign influences are propagating through our social media feeds, and they've successfully weaponized confirmation bias. How do we combat this phenomenon? What do you suggest we do about it?

Lightly moderated yes, but moderated nonetheless. I think Porn bandit is all the evidence you need that moderation is needed.
The only moderation I see on here (other than porn) is when @kwik44 makes the occasional appearance. I'm not on here enough to notice other threads being removed, locked, whatnot. I'm not saying it shouldn't be but it's kind of nice to post without fear of banning.

You not showing up bitter and angry after your shiftwork job ends would be a good start.

I'm sorry but I cannot punch down on you tonight as much as you crave that. Big Iowa fan like you will be watching the women's game like me shortly. I always love your thoughtful insights about Iowa athletics.

Thanks, brother. I appreciate you listening. Hope all is well.

They did witness the advent of technology.
There wasn’t anything like the printing press in the Greek or Roman societies they studied to craft our own elective government. Our revolution grew and actually benefitted from that new power to disseminate information.

You put it right though, what combats it? They built the system realizing it needs checks and balances, in so many directions.

The only thing to combat speech is free speech.

The only world in which that makes sense is if X is creating news/info content. They do not. They are simply a vehicle for people to get their views out. In no way does blocking X prevent that same information from being shared on this board.

That’s like me saying I think people should not shop at Hy-Vee anymore. And you suddenly saying I do not want anybody in this world to eat groceries.

Do you not see a need for fact checking? Is fact checking becoming synonymous with free speech suppression? There is so much misinformation on the "information highway" it's near impossible to sift through the mire. Again, how do we combat this?

He didn’t call any posters a nazi if that’s what you’re implying. Either way, cool story bro.
Having lined up across the LOS from him more than a few times back in the day, I can personally assure you Ping would wrap your precious little Nazis up like a pretzel.

You’re right, he said “your” and not “you”. I clearly am WAY off.

**College. C'mon, give me an ounce of good faith here.

Fair enough

Look at all the hate directed at me and others on this topic on this board. You are going to have to ban half of HBOT.
