Yes I said this in the game thread and yes I am sure some of you will rip on me, but how many times has this happened under McCaffery? Build a big 1st half lead, only to lose in the end? I mean c'mon man!!! This was pathetic.

At least we made Iowa State's season apparently.

Fran and his team have a lot and I mean a lot to prove the remainder of this season. This one hurts ... big time.

How many healthy leads have we blown under Fran? It's a yearly thing, it's typical Fran McCaffery.

Agreed. This happens way way too often. I'm glad Fran has helped revive this program but this is getting ridiculous with the blown leads. This would have been a huge win. Up 20 in the second half and then up 8 with a minute plus to go. Unacceptable

This idiot coach needs FIRED, he NEVER will get us over the top...epic stupid coaching again

It will be interesting to see if this is a Fran thing or a Gessell and Clemmons thing.

We were as well coached in the final minute as a 7th grade girls team- is this really the best we can do!?!?!?

I'm not going to question Fran most of the time like you guys, but I'll agree keeping that timeout in your back pocket in the last minute was absolute idiotic coaching.

Fran has taken Iowa back to a level where we compete, but I think we have plateaued under McCaffery. Is it worth taking a shot to go to the next level or are we satisfied where we are at?

Since 2012 the amount of big leads Iowa has lost under McCaffery is sickening, it's too many to count.

With one minute left I actually felt like "we've got it. We can't lose." Despite our tendency to choke at the end I thought our upperclassmen would seal the deal. Instead we completely inploded. Embarrassing and inexcusable. This does fall in Fran's lap.

It is all point guard play. Gesell is the worse player in Iowa history. This is why we lose close game after close game after close game. It is not Fran's fault.
And who keeps clearing out isolations for Gessell at the end of the game. With Gessell's constant clear outs at the end of the game, one has to assume that is what Fran wants at the end of the game. It's always Gessell at the end of the game. Clearly that's coming from Fran.

He's got some pretty nice classes coming in. I'm ready to stick it out with McCaffery. He can certainly recruit, and I think his oldest son will be a much better player than Mike G. Although Mike has been a great player for Iowa, he's just made some bone headed decisions late in games. That said, we would have never won in Chapel Hill without him.

Last time I checked coaches can call time outs. The players didn't all of a sudden say... "oh...we're up 14 points, let's just not shoot the ball anymore...let's runout the clock instead" that was Francis ' s call

Revkev or whatever got grilled for saying Gesell was not elite, but it is true. If Iowa had a pg like Monte Morris or even Washpun, we'd have a guy that could go iso and get to rack and finish and we would have won. ISU has morris, we don't.

Fran played two PGs in 2nd half and neither of them can score. That 2nd half lead just pissed away. Woody was abused defensively.

Shut up. We lost by 3 and it was a nail biter. It could have gone either way. We didn't lose because we're too conservative. We lost because the time ran out. Just shut up!!

And neither PG could get open to break the press. Neither is great free throw shooters either. I like both but Fran has to start to mix and match them better. Jok needs to play the 2 and Uhl needs to play the 4.

One minute left to go in the game, other team has no timeouts left, six point lead, other team needs to foul to get the ball back... usually. Just make a couple of free throws and it's over. BUT Iowa can't get the ball inbounds under the other teams basket and all that strategy is mute.

I completely agree.
And Iowa State fans are idiots...every time they win a game they act like they just won a championship and storm the court or the field.

Gesell is so feared at the 3 point arc that Monte Morris kept running under screens to guard him.

Our efforts to inbound the ball at the end of the game were really pathetic.

Jok doesn't handle the ball very well.

We got beat by a quicker, more aggressive team who shot poorly and played poorly early on, but closed when it counted. Guess what guys,--- when Gessell and Sapp graduate, our guards don't get any better; maybe get worse for a year or two.

I don't dislike Fran, but I do feel his explosive temper does put the clamps on all but the most headstrong players.
Which Iowa never seems to have.

I'd personally not want to be coached in that particular, overly intense manner.

No we stopped doing everything that got us the lead in the last 4 minutes of the game. Again we stopped doing everything that was successful. Because Fran played not to lose and took away all of Iowa's aggressiveness. He reminded me of a certain football coach. We scored 82 points being aggressive and then just decided that we weren't going to do it anymore. This is all on Fran. Iowa outplayed ISU and was the better team tonight.

Lol, no that's Iowa basketball. Tons of Alford teams blew leads. Tom Davis' teams even blew some leads, but mostly against really good teams. Lick never had big leads so they could never blow them (they were the ones usually behind by 20).

What explosive temper did you see tonight? I certainly didn't see any urgency.
