Lol, I wonder if the band Moe. typed that exact sentence & that's how they came up w their name??Baer better all around player than Moe.
Yea Gabe was 6th man of the year in the big ten. Tough for me to say Baer has a greater impact than Gabe. By the time he was a senior he was a really good player. Granted Baer is still only a RSS. Doug Thomas is another name that comes to mind.
Funny - I was thinking Jeff Moe also before I opened the thread, but couldn't remember if he was maybe a starter. I like Baer much better. Strong in all phases and has a knack for being in the right place on the court.Jeff Moe? Loved him.
I don't know who the other 6th men are in the B1G this year - does Baer really have any competition for 6th MOY? He'd follow nicely with Thomas and Olaseni.
Going to get in the way back machine and mention Ben McGilmer.
Gabe was great, but Baer can do just about everything: rebound, pass, shoot, handle, play D. Baer is one helluva basketball player, one that no college offered a scholarship. Never forget that. Baer would be a key player on all but maybe half a dozen teams in the country, but nobody wanted him. Well, for example the POY candidate from Purdue had 8 rebounds Thursday night in 35 minutes. Baer? He had TEN in only 19 minutes...after getting kicked in the gut.
Baer is worth the price of admission all by himself. And, frankly, I would like to see him back in the starting lineup. Either way, he needs to play at least 30 minutes a game. What a great part of this Hawkeye program. Thanks to Fran for giving the kid the one thing he needed: an opportunity.
I was sick as a dog during the Purdue game, so I somehow missed that Haas was coming off the bench. He's the obvious choice. My bad.
This is the correct answer.Going to get in the way back machine and mention Ben McGilmer.
Baer also had an awesome rejection of Haas right under the basket. Nick looked like a toothpick going up between Haas arms! I'll bet Drago was shocked to have that ball swatted away! Haas said"I must break you", and Nick said "Get that out a here!"Gabe was great, but Baer can do just about everything: rebound, pass, shoot, handle, play D. I think Baer is the 2nd best player on the team and will be very good over the next two years, but right now I love his energy and leadership coming of the bench. When Jok is out, they need a guy like Baer to steady the ship.Gabe was great, but Baer can do just about everything: rebound, pass, shoot, handle, play D. John Lickliter. End. Of. Thread.
I was a bit behind real time with the DVR, but by the second half I felt amazing. A Hawkeye win is always the best medicine!I hope you were able to enjoy the game being sick.....that medicine had to help....![]()

Sky king had a great shot too, he just got called for traveling a bunch on his Prescott step that lost track of the shotI was going to,post that too, but you beat me to it. Most on this board probably do not know who we are talking about. I also thought of McGilmer when they were talking about who had the sweetest shot prior to Peter Jok. Ben was a pleasure to watch in the old field house and on a great team with no BIG loses. Damn you.... Pembrose Bouroughs, Jacksonville and the refs!
Best PG on that years team. Gave them the best chance to win!I'd say he's up there with Gabe but doesn't really offer the next level skills and NBA range that JL had. I was there, he had the crowd going bananas!*
*I was at about 80% of the TL era games so I would know
You beat me to it Pal. A good all around player and a spark off the bench.Going to get in the way back machine and mention Ben McGilmer.
Made the Jones reference to a buddy the other day. They're almost twins...Bill Jones. BTW, doesn't Baer remind you of 76er Bobby Jones?

I love Baer as well, really him and Gabe have the same type of effect and what you need from a guy off the bench. I can remember a game I think Gabe's junior year where he just exploded on Illinois for like 18 pts. Everything was going in for him, loved watching his development over his 4 years.Gabe was great, but Baer can do just about everything: rebound, pass, shoot, handle, play D.
