Because we haven't complained about Dakich for a while....

I love Jess. He is articulate, knowledgable and charismatic. He would be great for me to listen to, but he doesn't try to deceive anyone that he's a Hawkeye....a great Hawkeye, too, in my estimation

Agree with john and with Houston here. Jess is candid and to the point and I like that. He knows BB and I find him straightforward talking about all teams including Iowa, fair and sincere about the comments. He's good.

Dakich's rankings are all about what you've done the past 2 or 3 games, and before IU lost to Penn State, they had a very impressive stretch. Not a surprise he had them #1.

Turns out this is not the case according to his predicted final 4 teams as posted on ESPN this morning. Only caveat being he selected this prior to their loss on Saturday. But that would just be bad journalism, and we know Dakich and ESPN wouldn't be guilty of that...

I know Jess personally. I said I loved listening to him. People like Jess, those educated, well spoken college level grammar, certainly are better at their profession than guys like Barkley and Kenny smith. Jess would be the 1st to admit it's a challenge to be objective when discussing Iowa. But of course I'm wrong and your right. Congratulations.

Based on the IU trip to AA his point made sense at the time. It does not know.

After their game at Michigan, I thought they were the clear #1. I mean they trounced UM at home and it wasn't even close. They looked legit that night.

Now they followed that up with a sub par performance at PSU.

This year is crazy, this could be the craziest NCAA tourney in history. I would not be shocked to see some 15's upset #2s and also a really low seed make it to the elite 8.

This....at the time he made the comment, it would have been fair to list Iowa, Maryland or Indiana number 1. IU didn't have much in the quality win department, but they had just blasted Michigan in Ann Arbor. I assume if he was asked on air last night, he wouldn't have IU #1.....but if they beat Iowa tonight, who knows. IU is heading into the rough meat of their schedule -- I don't think they'll cruise through it, but who knows. I certainly didn't expect Iowa to fly through their first 7 games, but here we are.

I think it was three years ago when Dakich had Iowa #1 in his Big 10 power rankings based on the way we were playing at the time, even though we were in the middle in the Big 10 standings.

Dakich's rankings are all about what you've done the past 2 or 3 games, and before IU lost to Penn State, they had a very impressive stretch. Not a surprise he had them #1.

That was different. That time he was clearly brilliant and willing to look beyond the standard blue-blood names. This time he'
Dakich is not good at his job. IMHO of course. His observations are totally fundamental and imprecise. His comments condescending in spite of that.

On the other hand, I could listen to Clark Kellog all day. Crispin does an above avg job, and so does Bardo. If Dakich would stick to stories of his bball playing days, he would be much more effective.

I do think Dakich is pretty good. I enjoy listening to him. I can certainly list out a few who are better, but there aren't a lot. Bilas is the Herbstreit of college hoops, he's pretty much at the top. Kellogg is very good (and also an OSU homer at times). I like Bardo and Crispin (who is almost indistinguishable from Dakich by both voice and content). Dakich is a good listen.

Phantom...I don't have a real big hang up with Dakich for his comments during a game but my goodness....his ranking IU higher than many other BIG teams especially IOWA is thick-witted homer stupid. A smart man would look at IU's BIG schedule and even before the PSU game and risk adjust some what who, where and by how much they won or lost the game compared to those league leading teams he is putting IU ahead of....

Just look below....he says he sees things?.....foolhardy is Dackich to me...this isn't rocket science stuff either.

IU - 9-2
12/30/15 at Rutgers W 79-72
01/02/16 at Nebraska W 79-69
01/05/16 WISCONSIN W 59-58
01/10/16 OHIO STATE W 85-60
01/16/16 at Minnesota W 70-63
01/19/16 ILLINOIS W 103-69
01/23/16 NORTHWESTERN W 89-57
01/26/16 at Wisconsin L 79-82
01/30/16 MINNESOTA W 74-68
02/02/16 at Michigan W 80-67
02/06/16 at Penn State L 63-68

IOWA - 10-1
12/29/15 MICHIGAN STATE W 83-70
01/02/16 at Purdue W 70-63
01/05/16 NEBRASKA W 77-66
01/14/16 at Michigan State W 76-59
01/17/16 MICHIGAN W 82-71
01/21/16 at Rutgers W 90-76
01/24/16 PURDUE W 83-71
01/28/16 at Maryland L 68-74
01/31/16 NORTHWESTERN W 85-71
02/03/16 PENN STATE W 73-49
02/07/16 at Illinois W 77-65

So...you have to leave PSU off Indiana's list because that hadn't happend yet when Dakich made his comments. As for the rest, unless the loss to Wisconsin completely invalidates Indiana's prior resume, replace "Indiana" with "Iowa football" and we're basically arguing against ourselves. All fall, I kept hearing (and did believe) that you can't control your conference slate, you can only beat the teams you play. Indiana wasn't clearly the best team at the time he made the comment, but they had to be in the discussion....it was a reasonable comment.
