Ben Keuter

Wow what a huge get for both programs. Apologies if a dumb assumption, but if he's already ~220 pounds, heavyweight is where he'll stay? Can't imagine Iowa football would want him at at a lower linebacker weight just so he could make 197 for the rest of the wrestling season.

Raises the question if the NCAA should be considering adding another upper level weight class for wrestling IMO. I know traditionalists may push back on this but I think it’s long overdue.

My push back to that would be if you look beyond the athletic scholarship, you have NIL now. In football you literally could find 100 other kids his age just like him. In wrestling you might find 1 or 2. Wrestling has much more room to maximize your worth. And any hopes of being world class in football is still marginal while in wrestling that goal/dream is within reach (I am not prediciting it, just saying it is a realistic goal).
Seriously? Had no idea wrestling fans only think about wrestling.

what do college wrestlers do after graduation for a career, pretend to be athletes and pretend to wrestle as “professional wrestlers”?

clearly his biggest opportunity for an actual career with NFL and MANY more fans with NIL opportunities in college is in football.

‘First time posting and you went with this. Hmmm.

Quick question, who has the biggest $ NIL contract currently? Here is a hint it’s not a football or basketball player!

So no matter what position he plays TE, LB or DL, he’s going to be a heavyweight. Is he Iowa’s next HW after Cass?

Love this. I agree. All you have to do is look at how deep 197 is to see a 210lb-220lb weight would be nice. Plus some small HWs

In football it’s all fulls. So it’s all or nothing.
I'm assuming he was offered a scholarship when he committed, but there are Football players that don't get them, at least early on. There are walk-ons and preferred walk-ons I believe, with the preferred guys being first in-line if a scholarship opens up.

There are 85 Full Rides, and the roster at Iowa is currently a smidge over 120 I believe.

He's definitely a full-ride scholarship kid which will count against the football limit. He's considered the 8th best prospect in Iowa for the 2023 class and the 41st best LB prospect in the country for 2023. Tough to slow roll a kid into a walk-on position at Iowa because he'll get a ton of offers from everywhere else.

I'm more concerned about him and football than him and clowns.
The ISU wrestling fans say Dresser didn't need him. They are covered at Hwt for the foreseeable future.

What appears to be funny is that TnT didn't even need to spend scholly $$$ to get him.

He (Gable) also had to prove hes the best in the world to get it, Gable is essentially a unicorn where the economics are radically different than even the Iowa or PSU studs. Of course, I'd be ecstatic if Kueter is on the level.

With GS, its also effectively his professional contract. I haven't seen what hes getting, but I am willing to bet it is no where near even the $11 million the last pick of the first round got in the NFL draft this spring. Heck - the Ohio State QB who reclassified to skip his senior year in HS signed a 1.4MM contract before he got on campus, and might be close to 2 mil total.

Not necessarily happy about it, because BK is more likely to help get Iowa a(nother) championship in wrestling than FB, but if your goal is to maximize earnings, football is still a much better path

No shit Sherlock. He's definitely got the pedigree for full ride offers, had several other DI offers in Football and Wrestling prior to committing, and I'm sure Iowa isn't "slow rolling" him in regards to walk-on status trying to save a buck.

Point being, kids verbally commit to Iowa without being given a "hard" scholarship, and there might be people out there unaware of that, hence my first post about it. Has nothing to do with Ben Kueter, who clearly isn't walking on anywhere.
