Just read the print version in the Press-Citizen, and I didn't find anything significant in it, with the possible exception that Beth sounds like a huge KF fan, so unless something shocking happens, it sounds like we're stuck with the grand old man for many more years. Speaking for myself, I found that greatly disappointing. And there wasn't much said about Fran, but I also came away with the impression Fran's here at least until his contract expires. No buyouts seem remotely on the radar in either football or men's basketball. Beth, somewhat surprisingly to me, sounds like she's just fine with the status quo while admitting men's basketball attendance is a problem.

So buckle up. KF may stick around until he's 90, and it sounds like Fran will be around til he walks away. Not exactly what I was hoping to hear.

Iowa athletics as a whole is sitting in fairly good shape. It could definitely be a lot worse.

Haven't read anything so this is dart-throwing, but could she just be saying what one should say at this point? He is a good person and has done good things for the program, school, and state. We weren't going to hear a "he needs to do A, B, and C or I'm firing his arse!" coming from her. I get the disappointment, but we have to be real about it.

You would be much happier cheering for the buckeyes. They were going to fire Day with a great winning percentage. You want kf out when is approaching most wins in big ten history. Lol

EXACTLY! Beth is way too smart to publicly share any doubts, or (in the case of Ferentz) any hint of a doubt, with the press.

Yeah, I agree with LMJ on this without reading the article. She is not going to tip her hand to some local beat writer. Until the losses start to pile up for The Captain in this new era, she really can’t justified any firing in the near term. Firing BF was glorious, but now she needs to tread lightly dealing directly with The Don himself. The Captain already dodged the racism bullet and I don’t foresee any hazing scandals, so until he starts posting sub .500 seasons, he is essentially safe…☹️

There is no way she should let Kirk go. How in the hell is Iowa ever get another respectable coach when you fire the coach that has set all sorts of Big ten records for winning ???
I agree. When KF walks away, which I truly believe will be soon, there will be a behind the scenes “retirement bonus” to compensate for the rest of his contract. As much as he’s pissed me off over the years, he’s earned the right to walk away and not be fired.

AD's are fully capable of coach-speak. What else would you expect her to say about KF? She not going to fire him so she might as well praise him.

He’s gonna retire on his own, won’t go past his current contract. He talks about honoring contracts so that does leave me a little worried that he sticks it out all the way through. Though I don’t think he knows when he wants to be done just yet. when he is I’m sure he will stick out that season and let the university know his plans.
It is what it is and certainly could be far worse… like Nebraska worse

I think BG can expedite KF's departure by hiring someone already on staff so Ferentz' son in law keeps his job.

I really think that's one of a few reasons he's still the HC.

If they are renovating Carver-Hawkeye they need to raise the roof and add about 10 more rows of seating. Iowa will NEVER host another NCAA wrestling or any other championship until Carver's capacity increases by a few to several thousand.

She actually sounded like a competent and forward-thinking AD who isn’t going to publicly disparage or question a coach. She wisely didn’t commit to anything nor trap herself into a comment that would actually make it difficult to implement changes. I have a feeling with her at the helM Iowa athletics will continue to elevate. It’s just a really tricky time for programs like Iowa at the moment.

NCAA wrestling is not returning to a college campus again.

They will stay with the current formula.

The attractiveness of most facilities is a decent capacity, but with the ability to have a waiting list for tix so they can keep raising seat prices.
The "supply/demand" approach.

The hope has to be this:

1. Kirk evolves and hands over greater control to Lester.

2. Fran gets more NIL to land better athletes.

As much as both coaches drive me crazy for glaring weaknesses, both also have strengths that set them apart from many coaches—Kirk for stability and player development; Fran for an impressive offense.

Ho hum. 😔

Yeah let’s get rid of a coach that puts us on the map Nationally year in and out almost. Sent as many to NFL as the likes of ND TX MI and LSUs, as well as would have been in the playoffs 3-4 times in today world.

My god what do you all think, we’re goin to take over GA or Bama and be the top of CFB?? Get a friggin clue, yall never left the state of Iowa I assume??

Oh wait he can’t keep up with the times, NIL etc. lol got Cade (best option at time) got Gronk, as well as Jackson and others, again you’re all clueless!! Shut up and donate or you dot get a voice!! Welcome to todays CFP.

If TB is nearly as good at his job as some on this board thinks he is, then he would have his phone ringing off the hook as soon as he’s available.

Phil is 61, KF is 69.

Phil isn't retiring when Kirk does unless KF stays another 6/7 years.

If KF hangs it up after next season, you think PP would go out and find another job at age 62 after working for the same boss in the same city for 27 years and having accumulated the wealth he must have? I don’t know anything about PP personally (health, hobbies, hates his wife, etc), but that seems rather unlikely.

Why would we fire a coach with 11-straight winning seasons who is selling out Kinnick every year?

I disagree. The University would have to do everything in it's power and raising the seating capacity of carver is a huge first step. If it held 18,000 minimum with some suites and luxury boxes I don't know how they could turn us down. It needs to happen either way. Don't make the monumental mistake that the city of Des Moines did and make it several thousand seats too small because of budget shortcomings. Do it right so it can be a centerpiece for 50 more years.

I don't think NIL is the problem with Fran. He wasn't getting it done before NIL became a thing. I doubt more NIL will change the status quo much and I think most fans believe the same. The hope is gone with men's basketball unfortunately.

Des Moines and Omaha are the only metro areas under 1 million population to host the NCAA Wrestling Tournament in the past 20 years. And both of those are much larger than Iowa City/Cedar Rapids. It's my understanding they moved to larger cities not just because of the arenas, but because of hotels, restaurants, and entertainment options as a whole.

Why not? He’ll be in his 60s with a great career of achievement. If Wallace takes over I could see him staying on a couple of years but he’s not going to start over somewhere.
I agree with this. If they hire in house I could see him staying on a few years to help with the transition.

I’m just going to say it: Wallace ain’t it. My opinion is just that. And may be valueless, but I firmly believe he isn’t, even if we are looking at the current staff.

Maybe not, but he’s next in line if titles mean anything. Who else on staff? Lester?
