BigTens Big Dogs of The West Division

I hate Osu and thought refs were awful in the game vs Florida. But can you please show us the evidence the refs were paid off in that game or that he is cheating?

I can show you film of the game and using logic and common sense we can deduce that the only possible reason the referees would make such horrific calls is because they were paid to do so.

and of course, the most logical conclusion would be that Urban Meyer was the one who made those payments to those referees.

to say them refs were just dumb ain't cuttin it where I come from.

Here is the way I would rate the BIG10 West favorites in order this year....

Wisconsin
Iowa
Northwestern
Nebraska
Minnesota
Illinois
Purdue
Flip Minn with Neb & I'd agree with this order. I just don't see Neb as a top 4 team in the West going forward.

So in this thread your reasoning is when refs have an awful game i.e. Florida-Iowa outback bowl in 05' they are paid off same with a player as in Ronnie Harmon 85' rose bowl. So did Fitzgerald pay off the refs in the game against Nwestern last year at kinnick too? You know sometimes people just have a real crappy day at the office. But again way to back your claims up with zero factual evidence. For someone harping about using logic maybe you should try it sometime as well....

Bourban started out that season ranked #3.
Iowa did not start out last season ranked #3

you better worry about your own soul, mister.

I don't get why you're trying to take a shit on Urban by spelling his first name as Bourban [sic]. It conjures thoughts of Bourbon, which is delicious, gets you drunk, and facilitates long bang sessions.

You better worry about your lackluster ability to come up with something better than a piss-poor derogatory nickname, sir.

Wisconsin on paper is better than last yr.Injuries to the teams mentioned will play a big role.

No they aren't. They lose a lot of experience on defense and their QB couldn't even beat out interception machine Bart Houston for sole possession of the starting gig.

Lol. We got smoked by Iowa and Ohio State, and took Wisconsin to OT. Beat every other team in the West. I'm not convinced we're anything special and clearly we're not contending with the top 5-6 in the conference, but I don't see how a 9-4 team has the drop off you're predicting.

Neb has, aside from Penn State, all of our tough conference games at home. Wisconsin, Ohio State, Northwestern, Iowa all come to Lincoln. Can't see us dropping all four of those, but maybe with black & gold glasses on I'd be seeing differently. 2017 seems like an 8-4 season for both Iowa & Nebraska.

Depends on how the 3-4 defense works in your first year. You have to have the right personnel to run that. If you have a really special NG and OLB it can be effective. If not, it can be disaster.

True, I'll grant you that. Khalil Davis and Mick Stoltenberg are the most logical noses for us going into the season but we'll see how well the new system holds up come Big Ten play. None of our current roster tackles were meant to be NG (aside from incoming Damion Daniels).

Fair enough, you could be right. The problem for the Gophers the way I see it is that they have just too many new pieces to fit together to make much of a dent this year.

Good to see a level headed corn husker fan for once.

Would love to see your guys husk OSU and NW!

Probably some black and gold glasses not discussing Nebraska much in this thread. I fully expect Nebraska to be in it until the end.

You do realize Urban is 39-2 against the big 10? Like them or hate them, don't be delusional.
For sure. No reason to look ridiculous, by degrading the Buckeyes. Don't much care for Meyer, but you can't possibly act like their not the favorite basically EVERY year in the BIG. Thats no small feat. As for NWestern, their certainly capable of being in the hunt this year, and putting them on the level with the Illini, and Purdue is misinformed at best.

I definitely think NW could contend. As much as some on here hate to say, I think the west is wide open between Wisconsin, northwestern, Iowa, and Nebraska. People seem to think it's Iowa and Wisconsin, but other than Wisconsin nobody in the west has been a regular contender year in and year out.

I can see that what's coming is going to be VERY hard on you. Oh well, a large part of the last 15 years have been tough on me too. gbr
I'm going to enjoy Iowa's success. And have to admit I'm going to enjoy Neb's failure. I think Neb wins 4 games this year, if they play to their ability this year.

Neb damn well better not get a bowl at 4-8.

Is this thing that is coming the same thing that was coming when the Cornhuskers join the Big Ten?

I seemed to remember a lot of the same promises

Fair assessment.

  • Wisconsin is defending champ and program to beat
  • Northwestern lost to Iowa and Michigan in 2015, actually a better season than last year
  • Iowa has new QB and plenty of work ahead, but is 4-1 in Madison, since 2003
  • Nebraska also has new QB, as Tulane transfer Tanner Lee steps into role
  • Minnesota welcomes PJ Fleck era
  • Purdue welcomes Brian Brohm era
  • Lovie begins a full Year 2 at Illinois

Let's start from the Bottom:

Illinois is going to be TERRIBLE in 2017. Lovie Smith has committed career suicide.

Brian Brohm is a great hire for Purdue, but their schedule is insane. They can be better and still lose 10 games.

The Minnesota love is hilarious. THEY HAVE NO QB. You can't run Fleck's Offense without a QB capable of mustering the Forward PASS.

Nebraska's season will hinge on defense. Offense will be better in 2017, but can Nebraska transition to the 3-4 without anyone who can effectively rush the passer? Doubtful.

Iowa will be doubling down on the running game in 2017. Lack of balance makes them a 6 or 7 win team.

Wisconsin wins the division easily. Schedule is pud.

This is a sane analysis, and I would bet money that less than half of it turns out be true in December. That's why it's fun.:)

No mention of Northwestern, who open B1G in Madison and have won 2 of last 3 in series, including last game in Madison, like Iowa.

The transition to 3-4 for new DC Jim Leonard will be interesting, as he only has coached one season at any level. DB coach last year and I have heard he spent 2015 working with Dave Amada apparently prepping for job.

Nebraska has a tall order going to the 3-4. They didn't have any D-linemen capable of stopping the Hawkeyes running game last year. Somehow, a dominant run-stopping NT is going to emerge from the guys that couldn't stop Iowa on the final drive when we ran it 13 straight plays? Huskers knew we were not going to pass and could not stop us.

Damion Daniels is going to be good. I am jealous/ticked off they got him and we didn't, but he probably needs a few years.

Nebraska's new D.C. Is probably the best coach on their staff, though, so anything is possible. Where is Diaco from???

Wisconsin fans are anxious to see if Jimmy tweaks the Aranda/Wilcox 3-4. Despite the loss of Biegel, Shelton and Watt, the cupboard is well stocked so not expecting a falloff in overall performance. I was impressed with the coaching-up Leonard did with the d-backs last year.
The loss to NW at home in 2015 is probably still festering with the players and staff. Thorson will certainly test the defense in the B1G opener.

I don't think Neb wins a game after September. Even Pur seems to beat Neb in W Lafayette.
I wonder if you even know how stupid you sound?

Tell you what, if Nebraska doesn't win a game after September, I will crawl on all fours to your house, just to lick the sweat off of your balls.

Then I will head to Mike Riley's house and kick him in the balls. gbr
