Bo Jordan -- 165

It's weird that we never had a Penn State poster on this board until they won a title. Now we have two Ohio State trolls on here after they win a title. I guess we should be flattered but I would rather them troll somewhere else.
Lol I always thought a troll was someone who constantly threw their teams results and what not on other boards and things of that nature yeah the Buckeyes are my favorite team but I would never be one of those type of posters I'm just a wrestling fan who likes to talk wrestling and out of all the boards I visit aside from themat you guys are the most active even if I'm not a hawkeye fan I respect and admire your guys dedication to your team and just the state of Iowa wrestling in general I remember my freshman year we took the trip to cheer on my teammates at the NAIA nationals and I saw wrestling billboards and I just thought how awesome that was I wish the rest of the country would do things like that

FWIW I, and most posters appreciate outside points of view, as long as they aren't 'gloaty' or 'in your face you suck' type of posts. Wrestling talk would get rather dull if it was always the same people supporting the same team saying the same things every season.

Also: I personally enjoy the knowledge you bring to the table about most NY wrestlers, not too many NY posters, at least that I know of anyway.

Almost without fail when I see a negative post on here about Iowa there will be a few likes. I check out who liked it and many times you are one of them. Bottom line is we need to run off a few titles so you guys will go back to wherever you crawled out from.

thats fine I wish you guys the best of luck and yes depending on the post I might like it there's no denying that but if it makes you feel better I dislike Penn State a thousand times more then the hawkeyes my father is also a big time Hawkeye fan so we tend to clash a little during the college season that'll be pretty evident at MSG in March

thank you lax that means a lot I initially came here to see how Paddock was faring in the room but you guys tend to have some great discussion here which is why I just kept checking in I think the last NY wrestler to compete for the Hawks was Magnani but before him it was Tom Ryan and the Bannach bros I might be missing some other ones and another NY poster who always brings something to the table is Hofman but I don't think he posts here much

Willing to wager Bo Jordan doesn't wrestle in Las Vegas, sorry to late for that bet. Tell me why didn't he? RANKINGS, I rest my case!

You can argue all you want that Ryan likes to protect his team's rankings by dodging other top wrestlers. You might even have some historical examples that provide some basis for your argument. In this case, however, I firmly believe that you are wrong. First, IMO, there is zero chance that Bo Jordan would agree to dodge anyone. He absolutely thinks that he can beat Ringer and anyone else that the weight class has to offer. The reason for dropping out is an injury. Ryan is hoping that the injury is minor but there is no guarantee. It has nothing to do with dodging anyone and everything to do with protecting a wrestler from aggravating a medical issue.

We don't have to look for historical examples. Just take look at last night's quarterfinal results:

133 - Ohio St's DiJulius Med FF after two wins. He was bracketed to face Cornell's Garrett.

Probably the only time they would of faced each other during the season so this sure does look like Ryan playing some seeding games. I have a lot of respect for what Ryan has done at tOSU, but this kind of stuff does seem to happen a lot.

You might have a valid argument here if DiJulius was ranked ahead of Garrett but since he's not, he's missing a chance to improve his ranking, not protect it.

Lets all pause and get something clear before we move on with this discussion.
"Rankings" and "seeding" are 2 different things. From the NCAA:
https://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/NWCA_Annual_Report_2014.pdf

Criteria Weighted Percentage
Head-to-Head 25%
Quality Wins 20%
Common opponents 10%
RPI 10%
Qualifying placement 10%
Coaches Rank 10%
Win % 10%
Number of matches 5%

So unless something has chaged feom last season the only rankings that are considered are coaches rank and that is only 10% of the criteria.

That being said, unless you guys are referring to the coaches poll I doubt anyone is trying to protect a ranking. A seed, maybe. A ranking, nope.

I know I said seeding and head-to-head is the single most important criteria. It certainly appears like Ryan made sure there won't be one against Garrett.

Don't forget Penrith!

My thoughts:

Dijulius was hurt and Garrett was/is ranked ahead and will be seeded ahead of Dijulius. I don't see how that is "playing games" or protecting anything, that was a lost opportunity in my opinion, as Dijulius had nothing to lose so to speak.

Bo has been nursing an injury, that is a known thing. Trust me, when I say Bo and Tom Ryan are not afraid to put BoJo against anyone, they believe he is going to beat Ringer.

Tomasello wrestled Dance (one of the only losses on his record). If he would have MFF here I would have agreed that this was "playing games" with seeding criteria. Didn't happen though.

Courts wrestled Abounader (who has Courts number for whatever reason), if there was ever a wrestler who Tom Ryan should sit out to protect his ranking and seed it would be Courts as the guy is an absolute enigma.

Martin and Tavanello wrestled out. Martin is adjusting to the significant weight jump still, but is looking solid. He could sneak into low AA status come March, he has been a round of 12 wrestler before as has Tavanello.

Maybe, I am just giving Coach Ryan too much benefit of the doubt, but a lot more evidence that he is just doing what is right for the long term success of his team, rather than "playing games" to protect seeds or rankings.

BTW- I told everyone Micah Jordan is very good. I know he still didn't see any of the top guys at the weight yet, but he did take down the #8 wrestler in the country in dominate fashion. He has always been the "overlooked" Jordan in the shadow of his more talented relatives, but he is constantly getting better. Best example, I have for Micah is this, in high school he started his career 0-3 against Dean Heil (now of Okie State) and was Majored the first time they wrestled Heil's Junior year, However, the 4th time they met up Micah won in OT, then the 5th time, Micah won soundly. I know that was high school and not super relevant to his current situation, but I am a firm Micah Jordan believer and truly believe he is a top 3 wrestler, and is my darkhorse to win the weight.

I know some of you think I am just an Ohio State troll who has only come out since they won a title. However, I have been on this board long before Ohio State won a title and talk more Iowa than Ohio State. It just so happens that this discussion was on Ohio State, which happens to be a team I follow very closely for a variety of reasons. I am actually friends with some guys involved with the program so I care about the program and am fairly knowledgeable when it comes to the team. I don't live in Ohio though and I didn't wrestle at Ohio State. I also post on boards and follow Michigan, Northwestern, Illinois, Minnesota and Penn State.

I have never been called an Ohio State fan, let alone an Ohio State "troll" on here ever before despite quite few posts over the years. I think some of you are just being sensitive. I just like to talk wrestling.

I was very impressed by Micah's performance in the finals. Wide arsenal of offensive moves. Great positioning. Never at risk of being taken down. Strong rider. Quick. Controlled every second of the match. Sheesh. Watching Micah on the heels of the Gross-Ryan match was like night and day. I think tOSU has more holes in the lineup than you do, but we are in agreement that 141 isn't one of them.

I agree tOSU has many holes right now...149, 157, 174, 197, and Heavy. I just see the potential. Its not there yet, but I didn't even see the potential for a run a month ago.

Potential holes to be filled: 149-Hunter, 174- Myles Martin. The other three weights are what they are, 197 and Hvy, both have guys who have been round of 12 in the past, but I think that is about their ceiling with maybe a 7/8 low AA sneak in. 157 is the only hole I don't see possible to get filled, but even there Jake Ryan will be a qualifier and maybe win a match (but that is for sure a hole).

JustWrestle, you seem to want to ignore what has been posted already about seeding criteria. AGAIN, the biggest single factor is head-to-head, NOT rankings, therefore a loss would have a big impact in seeding against Garrett at NCAAs and it is to Dijulius benefit that did not wrestle. Do you get it now, or will you continue being obtuse?

See that would make sense if that is actually what I said, but again it is not. You are twisting my words for some unknown reason. I never made any comparison to Heflin. I never said Mark Martin was a high AA contender. I have said several times he will need some time to adjust to the weight jump. However, I am pleasantly surprised with what I have seen from him so far. So, much so that by the end of the year I think he could be a low AA/round of 12 candidate. I said I had low expectations for the weight and thought it was an absolute dead spot a month ago, now I think Martin may be a viable option. I have literally only talked wrestling. I stand by all of my statements. Did you actually read my entire posts? Why so sensitive?

I understand. However, Garrett is going to be seeded ahead of Dijulius. So, this was a opportunity to improve his seeding criteria with having very little to lose. If he loses to Garrett it doesn't hurt him because Garrett is one of the top wrestlers in the country and seeded ahead of him. Where as if he wins, it give Dijulius a big boost. Very little risk with potentially a big reward.

I understand your perspective, I just happen to disagree with it. I think Dijulius actually got hurt and as a precaution they pulled him. Ohio State entered 10 wrestlers and 1 wrestler MFF out after two matches. It happens. You are welcome to your opinion. My opinion is if Tom Ryan wanted to protect a seed he would have MFF Courts to Abounader and Tomasello to Dance. Two wrestlers that the those respective Buckeyes have had historical trouble with early in the season who are ranked lower.

Fair enough, just please stop predicting Mark Martin as the 197 champion.
