Bob Wischusen and Dick Vitale on the call for Iowa-Wisconsin on Thursday

I’ll get called crazy, but if it’s a big game in the B1G...I like the Benetti and Dakich team.

Yes, Dakich goes out of his way to be over critical at times, but at least you can tell he watches B1G basketball night in night out. And he breaks down the game.

Is the game for sure on ESPN? On their website it has the game on ESPN3. I would be shocked if it wasn't on ESPN.

I can't stand him because of the same 20 clicges he uses and everything goes back to the same 3-4 teams. Saying he belittles the Hawks all the time by calling them kids is a bit, well, exaggeration
He gives me a headache with his constant screaming and hyperbole.

I remember reading a nationally published article (Sports Illustrated, maybe) about 20 years ago that talked about Dickie V’s popularity and how their was a big difference in how he was viewed and the magic age was 30. Fans under age 30 loved him and his popularity was extremely high. Those of us age 30 and over, Much Less So, for all of the reasons listed previously in this thread.

I wonder if that Age 30 demarcation still exists. Maybe some of the folks on here loved him at first, because they were under 30 and now he is just annoyingly over the top...?

personally, I didn’t mind him, but I thought his theatrics were a bit much, so I could take him or leave him ... until he started giving Drake some recognition earlier this year. Now he’s one of my favorites again! (Drake alum)

I still like Jim Calhoun and Pete Gillen. You'd really have to pay close attention due to the pace. Could be challenging though. 😀

Thanks for the info Blair!

We are Hawkeye fans. We will bitch and moan about all announcers. Gus Johnson; used to be the one Hawkeye fans could rally around. But now? We hate them all!!!!

It used to also be just Beth we hated for football...... but now even our own homers (Dolph & Bobby). I think Bobby is still ok? Is that right? Ed? I think he's still ok right boys?

We have been infiltrated by so many Cubs fans in this university that some of our own fans are just plain ole 'Karen's.'

Hoping Vitale gives IOWA some respect. He tends to belittle the Hawkeyes by repeatedly calling us kids. Yes I know they are college kids but he tends to give other programs players more respect. Doesn't matter he will talk about 50 other teams, games, and players other than the game in front of him.

Classic Iowa fan right here. No respect!

Vitale is almost the worst. A guy acting like a teen is not a good sound. Walton is by far the wrost. An idiot trying to sound smart

I like all of the ex-players. Bardo is the best.

Love Gus, but I know what you're saying. For me, there are a few that I really, really enjoy, and a few that I'd rather have my ear drums routed out with a corkscrew than listen to. The vast majority fall in to the "no real opinion" category.

I like that team, and it's more about how good Benetti is. I've posted about him before, but he has automatic natural chemistry with any color guy he partners with whether its NBA, MLB, CBB, or CFB. Dakich isn't bad. He knows the game and if his random tangents bother you that much then mute your broadcast.

If Iowa has to suffer through more years of Dickie V calling Top 25 Iowa games then be grateful for that too... it means Iowa basketball is relevant. We could have Kugler or Gaudin for every game on BTN. No disrespect to those guys, but it would mean Iowa bball is mediocre to be relegated to BTN and not major national telecasts.

Most on this board don't seem realize the national guys have to appeal to a national audience. They would rather just bitch on this board.

Dick Vitale had a lot of love for the Hawkeyes tonite.
He believes Garza will be Player of the Year and Iowa
with its man to man defense is on a roll now. He is
loved by college basketball fans because of his boundless
enthusiasm.

Still love Dickie V as I grew up watching many of his announced games.

There was a documentary on BTN about Rutgers final four run in 1976. Vitale was an assistant there from ‘71-73 and was in line to take over as head coach as they were emerging as a national contender. He took the head coaching position at Detroit mercy instead.
Vitale stated that if he would’ve been head coach at Rutgers in ’74 and on, there wouldn’t have ever been a “Dickie V”.

I didn't think he was that bad tonight, but that's maybe because Iowa was winning.

However, on a related note, I will use this thread as an opportunity to give kudos to the BIG network. I think Bardo, Hummel, and Settles are very good. Shon Morris and Brian Butch are pretty good. It is great hearing from guys who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about our league.

Now if the BIG network could just step up their game for football...

I agree about the BTN crew. They are great. BTN has developed into a great channel. When it started several years ago it was tough to watch at times but now it’s one of my favorite channels and has to be helpful in recruiting against non B1G teams.

I disagree about tonight’s call though. It was horrendous. I’ve never disliked Dick Vitale but that was tough to listen to. You basically watch the game and listen to random college basketball talk in the background. It’s like they weren’t even watching the game.

Dukie V had me clawing my ears off. Can’t stand him.

Finally turned the sound off with about 11 minutes left in the game. My wife came in to the room and heard the silence, and simply said "Vitale?".
It's too bad because I really don't mind, and usually like Wischusen (yes, I know that's not correct spelling).

Apparently I tuned into the Dick Vitale show, but the Hawks were playing in the background.

Those guys lost interest in the game when the Hawks were up 14-3.
