Bohannon announces

I am thrilled! This kid will be a good point guard for Iowa, will compete and be an asset to the team.

Great to have you Jordan!

Well, I guess it's official. I don't know how to feel about it though. Disappointed on missing out on Moore but it looks like he already dismissed Iowa anyway. If he's as good as his brother that played at Wiscy, he'll be fine. One of these days though, I'd love for Fran to get a break down the defense PG.

A good player, but doesn't fit the mold of what Fran needs at PG. Why has Fran struggled to land an athletic point guard who can drive and dish? It's very frustrating considering that roster spot will be wide open. Tyler Ulis or Charlie Moore could have been game changers for Fran's system.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we appear to be moving to more of a "run and gun" (not a fan of the term but you likely know what I mean) system. Given we keep adding athletes in the 6'6"-6'9" range, the system would seem to need someone who can run and distribute. Jordan fits that. The kid can shoot off the break and passes very well. JMO, but I think he'll fit in well.

Jordan is an unbelievable talent! Hawkeye fans will have a lot of fun watching him in the future. One of the best shooters in the Midwest period! I'm not sure why certain hawk fans feel the need to put down a in-state kid like this. If he was from Chicago, St Louis or some other metro area they would be going crazy. Welcome aboard Jordan. Prove the haters wrong!

Where did anyone put down Bohannon?

Troy Skinner, take 2.
He's way better than Troy. I'm not 100% sold on him at this level but he's way better than Troy. I played against Troy and I've seen Jordan play multiple times.

Of course, players are all much better these days but Jordan can really shoot and he can get it off quick.

Glad to have the young man. And this class now has kids from Dubuque, Spirit Lake, and CR. It does say IOWA on the jersey, so that suits me just fine. I hope Fran can find one more in-state kid to round out the class and make it 100 percent IOWA. I want kids who want to play for Iowa, and I am pretty sure Hayden Fry was right when he said homegrown kids "have that extra heartbeat." Yes, sir; I'll take those kids with the extra heartbeat every time...and if they are good shooters, good handlers or rebounders, and tough defenders, well, what else do you want?

Fran's second option after Moore so got to trust him on that front for getting a pg. hopefully lot like the oldest brother Jason kid was a very solid big 10 pg. guess silver lining with commits like Kriener and Bohannon the odds of them leaving due to lack of playing time first year or 2 on campus less than others and helps with depth.

Hopefully Fran can lure cook into the class to make it complete.

A) Athleticism.
B) Ability to defend other athletic types.

I don't know if you notice what MSU does to Iowa every year, but I sure do.

They beat us with better athletes. The Iowa basketball program can and should shoot for winning the B1G title. Finishing 4th with Iowa kids playing "the right way" should not be the ultimate goal of the program. Aim higher.

I think MSU has beaten us lately by fouling every possession knowing that officials will only call a certain amount and than try evening up the totals.

Moore was playing games with IowA so Fran went elsewhere. Will wait and see on Bohannon but glad Moore is out

This comparison is closer than you think. Skinner led Iowa in three point shooting 3 times. He was limited athletically, had a hard time beating presses, and in my opinion made all kinds of poor decisions with the basketball. Hopefully, Bohannon is a better decision maker.

I'll go ahead and correct you. The #1 target at pg last year was Tyler Ulis. The #1 target at pg this year was Charlie Moore. Fran is clearly prioritizing the athletic drive and dish floor general. He's just falling short and resorting to fallback guys like Jordan. He's a good fallback option, but if Iowa really wants to compete and not get exposed against athletic teams you need the Charlie Moore type.

Once you get past the fact that Bohannon doesn't have the quickness of Moore, he does have good quickness for a PG. He moves to create in the lane better than I remember Gesell did as a frosh. Mike has better hops but Jordan is obviously a better shooter. Best of all, he has a chip on his shoulder that 4-5* kids often don't. I note that ESPN has him graded at 79 and Moore at 80. They generally weight their grading heavily to athleticism so that says something. I actually think that if Fran didn't expect Jordan to be a good pick-up, he would have gone with PG by committee in 2016. Now let's see if Cook would like to join the party.

Wonder if Jason looks forward to attending little bros games v Wisky? Or Matt his games v UNI?

Big congrats to Jordan!

I seem to remember Adrien Payne driving the lane and sky dunking on us and another game Brandon Dawson levitating like David Blaine and shooting an uncontested 7 foot jumper in the lane. I like those kind of guys. They win Championships.

In the 5 years either of those guys were at MSU they won the the regular season b10 conference once (a 3-way tie) and the tourney twice. They had 0 national championships.

You know, less success than the uber-athletic Aaron Craft had at PG.

Would like to have gotten Moore but am happy with Jordan. Sounds like another great shooter that can distribute some.

It might just take Moore (bags of cash, hiring someone from the player's possy, etc.) to get the kind of guy we want given we are Iowa. Fran, will keep working at it until we get that one.

The other consideration is Christian Williams may surprise and develop into a quality PG also. Think about that size and wing span at the point. Maybe he will get to check Moore down the road,

I won't be surprised when Williams turns out to be a very good point guard for us. And I would love to see he with the 7' wingspan sending Moore's shots back the other direction to be picked up by our wings and slammed home! Commit to Illinois Charlie!!! :)

I am thinking the same thing

We need to stop expecting the staff to recruit Top 100 recruits from outside Iowa. It simply isn't going to happen with Fran and this staff.

I would agree to an extent. We need to expect wins. That's what the ultimate measure of success should be. And I don't think anyone can claim that Iowa hasn't been on an upward trajectory despite the constant doom and gloom over missing this recruit or that, or whatever current weakness the team (like all teams) happens to have.

As to expecting top 100 players. We just won our first NCAA Tournament game in a very long time. It may take a bit of sustained success, and then I think we can be "surprised" when we start signing more top 100 guys from outside the borders. Cook could be the first since Gesell. We'll see.

As to Moore. The "Moore" that comes out about why we didn't get him, the less I care. In fact, I applaud McCaffery for moving on to Bohannon.

Correct, 3 Championships and what kind of players was Mr. Craft surrounded with? Thanks for proving my point twice over.

this is completely bogus. Their job is to recruit the best possible players, not the best Iowa players. If that kid doesn't doesn't go to SMU and Kentucky doesn't offer Ulis i think you would be very happy to have Mr. Ulis running this team and we could all dream big about watching this team play meaningful basketball games in March.

I expect them to continue to try and recruit outside of Iowa top 100 players and expect them to have success when the W's keep piling up under Fran.

IMO, its just a matter of time before Fran breaks through with some serious recruiting. I have all the faith in the world in him. He has recruited more talent than Alford and Lickliter did, combined. We just need to keep winning and making the tourney. And once that corner is turned with the winning and recruiting, Iowa will be on another level that we haven't seen since the 80s.
