Bohannon announces

When asked at the Final Four.... but he also stated to some that Iowa was his destination until taking the Kentucky offer late last summer.

But I can see how he'd change his answer when asked at the Final Four.
I agree 2432Hawk. This is what I noticed about Ulis' answers about his second choice in his recruitment- timing. Like a good politician, he said what was going to make him look good at the present moment- at the FF and earlier when he pulled the trigger for KY. Look for him to run for office a few years from now.

Watching Jordan's video showed a lot of floor moxie. The young man can really shoot and he showed very good passing skills.

I think he is another solid team player who will help this team. Fran doesn't hand out scholarships lightly so I think the coaches feel that Jordan will contribute.

Personally, I want to thank Fran for not kissing Moore's ass. Too many kids let the press and rankings go to their head. Moore is probably a better penetrator and quicker but Bohannon is a lights out shooter with good floor awareness.
Not Moore - the handlers. Moore is just an 18-year-old kid who is being used for the gain of adults who should know better. I blame them.

I hope these guys and guys like them get caught, but that will probably never happen. It seems like the NCAA has not devoted adequate resources to addressing some of the issues like this.

there are some really good summer programs out there...especially in Iowa with Barnstormers & Martin Brothers...

then you have the other side...Gary Williams (former OhioSt coach & won the NCAA at Maryland) got the hell out of coaching because of it...excerpts ...

Long ago, summer basketball was under the auspices of the Amateur Athletic Union, and even today, many people use the term "AAU" to refer to competition by independent travel teams that are sponsored by major shoe companies. In reality, it has been well documented that the teams face no oversight from any national governing body and are free to behave almost any way they see fit. Many of the top teams are set up as nonprofits, whose financial disclosure rules are rarely policed, making it very difficult to uncover violations of NCAA rules on improper inducements to players.

In recent years, attempts by the NCAA to control the summer league teams have largely failed, and their power has only increased. In recruiting, the independent travel team coaches are now viewed as being more influential than most high school coaches. Without strong AAU ties, recruiting at an elite level becomes difficult, if not impossible, according to college assistant coaches.

so when some of you guys start yapping about them there elite recruits...keep in mind...its a crap hole out there...

the NCAA has little to no authority to do anything about it...until EACH & EVERY D1 program is willing to police itself (which wont happen)....there will be times we will lose out on a certain recruit...just the way it goes..

and it has nothing to do with Fran's ability to recruit or "close the deal"...

Curious as to why you say they lack authority.

Well said. It sure is easier for the Iowa fan base to invest in Iowa recruits, financially and emotionally.

Gordy's boys are ballers from the word "go". It is also important for Iowa to lock down the Iowa recruiting scene. That, in part, requires the occasional reach (Jordan Bohannon is not a reach) . I think this is a good recruit. You can never have too many good shooters.

People most often are driven by money and power...follow the trail...it infects everything that offers both...including recruiting "amateur" student athletes...

Again, don't blame the kids. It's the adults who are the real slime balls making the money. The kids do not get a nickel.

While I agree that there is likely a certain amount of brainwashing going on, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a moral compass in 18-20 year olds. I'm sure they are smart enough to know (especially if what you say about the money is true) that if people are making money off them, and they aren't getting anything, that something fishy is going on.

While expecting these recruits to be perfect isn't realistic, people (note: I'm not referring to you in particular, this is just a general statement) act like they are all dumb and are helpless/incapable of saying "no."

I was referring to the recruiting process...not the kids.

That said, I am sure the "kids" and their parents make a few "nickles" off the books here and there. Cash is king.

If somebody wants to pay for my travel across the country, make sure I have the latest gear, food, girls, connections to a college education and I just have to play basketball rather than getting a job and working all summer. I might be okay in 'not getting a nickel' as a 16-17 year old kid.
