Boy, CMac's air balls are hurting

cmac 1-6. Ulis 1/6. sandfort 2/10

Needed better defense to start the game and better shooting.
Road shooting is hard. Ulis got eaten up early in screens leading to early 3s. That hurts more than anyone's misses. But those 3 combined for 14 assists. The offense was there even if their shots weren't falling.

Ulis had some trouble getting over but it was actually Rebraca who struggled.

Its his responsibility to redirect the ball handler away from the rim to allow Ulis to get back home.

He was really bad at it in the first half but much better in the second.

Its just really difficult to defend Eddy in the high screen, he's so big to get around and you can't switch it ever.

I figure, if nothing else, he’s showing the team it’s okay to shoot and miss. Better than a shot clock violation? 🤷🏻‍♀️. And it wasn’t like anyone was yelling for the ball.

Join the Masons union. Bad night all around from 3.
Last night was vintage post season Conner. It's why Dix and Peyton should've gotten all of his minutes this season. We already know post season Conner results in losses and it's a toss up on whether he has more points or fouls +turnovers. As good as his airballs were him thinking his 3" vertical would take him over Edney 1 on 1 was even better.

He was pretty damn good against Purdue in the post season last year, including the pivotal three point play when Purdue cut it to one and the game sealing pass to Keegan for the dunk.

You can look at one game or you can look at his career. Even this year he is having by far his best season as a player and his conference stats show he shouldn't be getting so many minutes.

In conference play Conners player efficiency rating (PER) is 9th on the team. However, he's leading the team in minutes played. His effective fg% is 7th on the team. He's also 7th on true shooting %. He's 8th on total rebound %(since he can't jump). He has more turnovers per 100 plays than Kris, Patrick or Peyton. Dix and Peyton should get all or the majority of his minutes. He's had 5 years to show that he isn't good enough against the majority of teams with a pulse. His stats are a far cry from the player that should lead the team in minutes.

Agree, Connor now down to 32% 3pt FG% in Conferenc, and trending lower, regression to his career #’s.

meanwhile SG like Dix is at 52% in conference

more evidence that Ulis poor shooting #2 guard is not an optimal alignment going forward. and why some here have posited Ulis and CMac to split time at PG with Perk and Dix splitting time at #2,

and by extension Sandfort and kris at 3 and 4 ( backed by aPMac)

Wait, he leads the team in minutes? You have to be kidding?

Yeah, he's been getting way too many minutes at a position where Fran actually has a lot of options.

He needs to be around 20 minutes a game not 35

He leads the team in Conference minutes played.
I don't want to rip the kid because with his limited athletic skills I think he's played as well as anyone could have expected or hoped for in season 6 but Fran has played this one pretty slyly imo. As much as I wanted a better overall player with some eligibility left to contribute to team chemistry after this year, we all knew he wasn't going to add anyone from the portal who could take minutes away from Connor or Pmac once it was announced CM was coming back. He was willing to bank schollies to have a roster where there was no way for them not to have a prominent role.

Nobody saw the Patrick anxiety stuff coming and I never guessed CM would be the better option but here we are. I'd rather see more Dix or Sandfort but as the roster stands it's hard to argue with his experience and passing that he's not a decent option for what we have so Fran will ride him down the stretch. 30 minutes does seem insane to me though. It is what it is. I do like that he's up on his free throws about 20 pct from last yr and over 90 pct. I definitely won't be getting too sentimental when the Connor as player era is over. Hopefully he can coach

Connor appears to be in a shooting slump.

People are actually guarding him behind the 3pt line, that is a big difference.

He's having by far his best season but he has a career average of 7ppg shooting around 31% for his career from 3pt line and is strictly a below the rim player. I don't have a big beef with his minutes this year, but if he wasn't the coach's son he would be a little talked (good or bad) role player.

It seems his 3 point shooting has improved late last year into this year.

I wonder if Patrick should be starting if he is ready.

Kingsbury is as good as Conner. You are correct if he had a different name he would never have been a starter at Iowa.

Wait, he leads the team in minutes? You have to be kidding?

You don’t actually believe a guy using the spellings of: Conner, Peyton, and Edney do you? Does that scream accurate information to you?

Kris is leading the team in MPG overall and in B1G play:

Player - MPG - Conf Play
Murray - 34.6 - 36.7
Rebraca- 31.5 - 33.3
Connor - 29.0 - 33.5
Perkins - 28.3 - 30.5
Ulis - 23.5 - 22.9

While we’re pointing out Connor’s shortcomings, it should also be noted that he has a decent lead in assists on this team and his a/to ration is 3.3. He’s averaging 3.1 apg and 0.9 TOs a game.

Post season “Conner” results
Big Ten Tournament: 7-3 (.700)
NCAA Tournament: 2-3 (.400)

Qualified for the NCAA Tournament every season Connor has been on the team except for his first season which he medically red shirted for after 4 games.

I like Connor. He brings toughness to this team that is lacking it. He should be playing 15 minutes a game and never shoot more than 2 three pointers, when he is wiiiide open. His jumper is sideways, out of balance, and he jumps like my grandma. When he makes it, it is pure accident and luck.

It seems like nepotism is alive and well at UI football and basketball.
Hard to argue but at least basketball is watchable and some games are downright fun. Watching Golden Boy's offense these past two seasons has made me want to gouge my eyes out with a fork most games

Can't really blame Connor he busts his butt off but Dad needs to play him less and learn what are good games to play him more minutes or less minutes.

He can be blamed for thinking he was talented and durable enough to be a 2 sport college athlete which turned out to be an incredible blunder. He might have gotten a little greedy there. But since he gave up on that pipe dream I agree

Blamed? Everyone is entitled to do whatever they want to do as long for as they want to do it. There's no blame there.

Nepotism is present at every level of every sport from 1st grade to college. We’ve all seen it, and maybe have been guilty of it too and it is 100% present at IOWA now.

What a fickle bunch you are. Two weeks ago everyone praised him for some big shots. He gave Mayer fits and got him in foul trouble when the Illini came calling. Had the dagger three that help sweep Rutgers.

I think his legs are tired and he needs to play fewer minutes. Now that Patrick has returned maybe he can sit more.

He has made some of those logo threes but now needs to be closer. Purdue was not a good night for any of our guards.

It was an unmitigated disaster that hurt the sport that matters and was paying his scholly that he stuck with waaay to long. Yes, Mr Joens... holding people accountable can still happen at Iowa

Aren't you the old guy who said you weren't going to judge when it came to the Iowa fb offense after a couple games.... Then spent the rest of the season doing just that? I guess you'd know fickle

We have to lead the world in airballs
I could care less about air balls. It’s a missed shot. Call it that. A brick is a missed shot that is ugly, too. A layup that rims around is a miss. The students don’t get to make fun of the others with the lame chant of “air ball”. Big deal.

Fixate on something else. Like redeeming yourself with the next shot. Or getting a closer shot. A miss is a miss.

Bit of revisionist history. Mayer ate Connor's lunch.
