Yup, and tons of little black drainage tile lines poking in from the margins of that feature.

I was canoeing on the Upper Iowa recently and I spotted a drainage tile line hanging out of a high soil cut bank. I was staring at it and ruminating on our water quality, thankful for the resilience of that outstanding river. Then I realized that the portion hanging down vertically was originally arranged horizontally and that length represented a loss of soil. We could do better.
