Brandon Snyder Arrested

These things happen. I feel bad for him and his family.

People make mistakes. I hope he learns from this and thank goodness no one was hurt. Very disappointing.

I hope he wasn’t a recruiting host.

Interesting, tell me more...
Physical rehab due to a ACL injury. He had a different major rehab in high school, then had one after his ACL injury this past spring, and now he's staring down his 3rd major rehab in probably something like 6 years. That has to be a major pain in the ass. All the same, there's no excuse ... just call an uber or something. There's no need to risk the lives of others (or your own). You typically see this sort of self-destructive behavior when people are feeling down or when they're just plain young and irresponsible. Given that Brandon would be looking at being a 5th year SR this fall ... the bad judgement probably falls on selfishness that is spurred by him feeling frustrated and/or depressed concerning his current circumstances.

Brandon will learn from this! Everybody makes mistakes and yes very fortunate nobody was hurt! He has been a class act and will continue to be.

Fortunately no one was hurt. Hopefully not forgotten by the staff in the shuffle because he's injured. How has Kirk handled past OWIs? Seems like it's been a couple years since a player made a mugshot. Game suspension? Stairs? I don't think he should sit at home for the bowl trip, but if these are usually suspensions he's gotta sit the opener next year.

Ferentz has little tolerance for this kind of stuff. If his first issue with substance abuse will be suspended to start nxt yr. If 2nd or more offense he might be done.

It's hard to tell what he'll do. They tend to be more lenient on younger guys ... and they tend to crack down more on older guys. I remember when Broderick Binns got hit with an OWI prior to his JR season ... he was disappointed with himself for quite a while after that. It seemed like it even aversely impacted his play through the 2010 season.

"He was the only junior on the Hawkeyes' leadership team this season despite his injury." I think he is going to loose his spot on the leadership team.
He's missed enough time from the field, and because of the timing of this I would make his punishment sitting home for the bowl game. He can work on his two rehabs that way and have his butt ready for the first game next year.
Not saying he is an alcoholic, but he'll have to go to 'rehab' type classes if he is convicted.
  • Complete a substance abuse evaluation and follow any treatment recommendations as stipulated by the evaluator.
  • Successfully complete a state approved drinking driver education program. There are a number of providers that have been approved to provide this program in the state of Iowa. Cost for the 12-hour class is $115. Additional fees may be incurred for the jail diversion program.

So was it an OWI,(Out while intox), or a DUI,(driving under the influence)? Those are two totally different charges, and much different with regard to the possibility of him putting others at risk.

Thanks, thats a totally different deal then for sure. It seemed that back several years ago, several players, (J Ferentz for one ) received what they called out while intoxicated charges for being drunk on the ped mall, but they weren't driving a vehicle.

You can be cited for underage possession of alcohol or for public intoxication, or both. Which are both different than OWI (operating while intoxicated). The OWI is the most serious obviously as greater risk of injury to yourself or others. You are correct in that the middle Ferentz boy got in trouble for public intox or underage possession, not sure which one.

“Out while intoxicated” isn’t a thing. Never heard anyone refer to a charge as that.

In 2008, James Ferentz was cited with possession of alcohol under the legal age, which people call a PAULA. In 2009, he was cited for public intox after getting in trouble in the Ped Mall. Iowa students routinely receive public intoxes, but no one confuses them for an OWI.

I think they were charged with what was called 'paula' back then.
Edit: Coswell must have posted while I was originally typing this. He is right.

NO, not everyone makes these kinds of mistakes. We have to stop making excuses for those who do make big mistakes. Most kids do NOT get arrested for OWI during their time in college.

Apropos of nothing, people out of state from Iowa may not recognize OWI as it may be called DUI or DWI.

Having grown up in Iowa and moved away shortly after graduating I have never heard the term OWI other than in Iowa. Most state call it either DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) or DUI (Driving Under the Influence).

Honestly, drinking and partying are part of the college experience. Sadly, but it's true. And as much as I hate to say it, but by the grace of God, there go I.

I'm in NO WAY defending this, but it does happen.
