Brands Interview

Too funny. I think Brands referred to Clark as a dumb blond. Awesome.

Maybe. It just seems like the guys that Tom, at least, heaps praise on consistently are the guys that are "like him". I'm just a guy on the internet who's a big Hawkeye fan, I'm just saying what I see and hear, and how it may play into the reputation Iowa is portrayed as having with some recruits. I mean, look at Spencer Lee. We got him and Gavin, two monster recruits, but he even talked about the negative perception of Iowa that had to be overcome.

It's funny that our guys are known as "robots" based on the narrative of the rest of the college wrestling world yet it's our guys that end up doing funny shit that makes the non wrestling media. Brooks's ode to his mullet, Grothus and Kadel sneaking into the UFC, and an appearance with Trump to name a few. These are guys that have been here awhile which tells me that Iowa is just fine with some clowning around. The Mat forums are affecting your thinking bro.

I thought Gilman sounded a bit robotic. I listened to the PSU interviews from their media day and they had a totally different tone to them as compared to Gilman, and BS. Not saying one is better than the other, just that they are different. Gilman and BS are much more down to business and "I have a job to do" and "I have to get it done" types as compared to the PSU guys.

I agree that it's not a fair representation of the Iowa team, but it IS out there. Like I said, Spencer even talked about it. If we don't address it, it's just an additional hurdle that we don't have to contend with.

There is more than one side to anybody's personality. These guys have to be characters to survive in the world they are in. Unfortunately, people hang onto one trait and assume it defines a person. People who dislike Iowa use the robot trait to gain a recruiting advantage or who knows what else. Maybe it makes them feel better to say something negative about the Hawks.
There are definitely times the guys sound like robots. But for the most part, they seem like all american kids who are chasing dreams and not afraid to work for it. They seem like they love where they are and what they are doing. On top of that they seem tough as he$$.
