Pretty easy to understand to me. If Cade is healthy, he is the starter. (If not healthy probably Marco if there was a game tomorrow) Sullivan has not even practiced one play for Iowa yet (I don't think) so how do you say anything else except Cade is the starter if he can play?? ALSO Sullivan will have every chance this fall to overtake Cade, even if Cade is healthy.

Classic meaningless KF coach speak.

The one positive we know at this time is that Deacon Hill is not an option at QB.

And for that fact I am grateful.

I could be wrong but I think Lester ONLY took the job because he was told/assured that he'd be allowed to ACTUALLY fix the offense. When you think about it, the last thing Tim Lester wants is to be the butt of jokes that Brian was.

Therefore, I have a feeling that IF Brendan outperforms Cade in fall camp AND Lester thinks he gives Iowa the best chance to win, Lester will go to KF and make his case on who should be QB1.

And don't forget that before Lester, Deacon being QB1 at the end of the season would carry a lot of weight (many called that a union card). Well, I think Lester showed Deacon the writing on the wall and told him his union card was invalid. If things were solely up to KF, Deacon would probably still be here.

We'll see what happens. I am hoping that with a healthy Cade, Lester can get this mess of an offense to function.

I know we needed a body, but why let Deac take so many snaps in spring ball if you were just gonna say hit the bricks.

It’s not always about reps for the qb1. Hill vey well may have been the best qb in camp at the time in getting timing and reps for the other skill position players for the new offense. Also, your ace pitcher may not be the best batting practice pitcher for your hitters.

There's also the integrity factor. He had to give the guy some reps to see for himself what was there. Only then could he suggest Deacon move on and look like he'd been fair about it.

Good point. But I really think this was Lester seeing at this time Deacon could make the throws needed for the WRs to get the work needed in his offense better than Marco. Marco’s run ability wasn’t going to help the other skill positions learn the new offense. Or maybe it was just KF being KF.

probably some mix of all...

With Ryan Fitzpatrick committing as a Preferred Walk On:

Next Year's QB Room:

so, shall we start the debate:

which one (or ones) transfer, and what does that leave us with? Most of the attention thru the summer and fall camp and very possiblly up to and even into the season will be on the "quarterback controversy," whether it is a real or imagined contoversy.

but a secondary question is, who will be have on the roster after all of the dust has settled. I think that is what this post sort of implies.

I do wonder how patient Marco will be

Let’s see what the O-line brings. They all may get used at some point this year

I would guess they wanted to give him every chance to "make it". It's a helluva lot easier to keep a roster as intact as possible.

(Obvious sarcasm forthcoming...)

Plus, they wanted to showcase for possible NIL suitors.

The over. Cade does not fit this system and honestly looked pretty pedestrian when he did play last year.
All I ask is if Cade is underwhelming even unjnjured, Lester tries another QB option to see if there’s upside. Hopefully KF standard of going down with the QB ship is over with the addition of Lester. 🙏🏼
