BTT double-bye officially one win away

Maryland loses at Ohio State, and now Iowa can finish no lower than 4th in the Big Ten by beating Nebraska.

Would complete an objectively remarkable regular season turnaround from where it looked headed at the beginning of 2023.
Can they finish higher if other dominoes fall?

If we were to get to the 2 seed, we would play the 7/10 winner. This is a possible Wisc/MSU game.
Yes on WISC, but no to MSU.

No way the Hawks lose a 3rd game to those Badger f*rs, but even though I think the Hawks matchup better vs MSU than Wisconsin, MSU will have some revenge on the mind after that crazy comeback the Hawks pulled out.

I like our chances now that Perkins seems to finally found his mojo to go along with Kris and Philip. If we are making our open looks we can beat anyone.

I don't think Michigan wins either of their road games, I don't think Maryland beats PSU at home and I don't think NW beats Rutgers at home either. That of course puts Iowa at the 2 with a win against Nebraska, which I do think happens. That will than make Maryland the 7 and Wisconsin the 10 and we would face the winner of that. I like the matchup in both. Then the next round would more than likely be the 6 Michigan St/3 NW winner which I think would be MSU.

I'm thinking the most likely outcome will be Iowa in the 2-seed*, awaiting the 7 Michigan / 10 Penn St winner on Friday evening.

* - assuming a win vs Nebraska on Sunday

so far the basketball season has played out just like the football season. iowa makes up for earlier losses with some good wins, then everything looks to be falling into place magically with just one last apparently in-the-bag regular season game against Nebraska.

OMG ---We do have to beat the sh-- out of Neb. Mostly for better standing and then maybe we don't have to hear from their stupid trolls the next 7 months...GO HAWKS....

I guess I will post this here, too

As long as they beat Nebby:

(1) the double bye is secured (at least a #4 seed)

(2) the #2 seed is secured if:

* N'western loses once (vs. PSU, at RUT)

AND

* Michigan loses once (at ILL, at IND)
Thanks big guy, hope that wasn’t too much trouble for you. We’re all so grateful for the effort you put into this message board, keep up the great work.

What is insane is that if ILL beats Michigan tonight and Rutgers beats Minny there is a 7 way tie for 2nd at 11-9 (Iowa, ILL, IU, Mich, MD, NW & Rutgers). 4 of those teams play Sunday Mich @ IU & NW @ Rutgers. The best part is against those other 6 Iowa has only 1 L but still has W against NW. Depending on all the tie breaker scenarios Iowa sitting pretty and 2 seed very likely if we win Sunday.

Another thing to take in account is if MSU wins at home Saturday vs OSU they'll jump all the 11-9 teams that lose Sunday by a half game for BTT seeding. After that loss in OT last night NW has to be most disappointed of any team if they miss out on a double bye. After sweeping Pur. IU & Iowa at home things were looking great sitting in 2nd place all alone. Now they could end up on the 7-9 line if if they fall to Rutgers Sunday.

Even simpler than that. If Michigan loses once and we win Sunday, we’re the 2 seed. We have all the tiebreakers for multiple ties.

Yeah I wasn't for sure if we finished tied with NW and depending on who ever else if any conceivable way we wouldn't finish 2nd. But figured odds had to be pretty heavy in our favor for 2 seed.

I stand corrected. Looks like there’s one scenario where NW would get the 2. Michigan would have to lose twice and Maryland would have to lose to PSU, Purdue has to beat Illinois.

This isn’t true, Iowa does not own the tiebreaker over Northwestern since they have beaten Purdue. If Iowa, NW, and Indiana all wind up tied for 2nd then NW is the 2 seed and Iowa is the 3. NW swept Indiana as well so the round robin record tiebreaker doesn’t help Iowa.

Yep just figured it out. Still half asleep.
